Rival Dealer has officially sunk in and I know it was touched on briefly upthread, but. . .

. . .did he use this release as one big coming out party?

Can't think of a more glorious, life-affirming way to do it, if so.

The previously unreleased 2009 track Lambeth is on the Hyperdub 10.4 compilation:

Two friends who love Burial have both said this is his worst track. I wonder if he just gave a spare track to a buddy and thats why it's white label only on a different label.

I like it, it's different again

pretty good album, sounds like it should soundtrack Blade Runner or something

it has a similar vibe to classic Tricky albums too

Fucking excellent. Just such wonderful music.

Austin, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 07:38 (seven years ago) link

From the moment the new single started it was instant chills. His style is so consistently good, warm and enveloping. "Paradise Circus (remix)" is one of the most harrowing songs ever.

I like how Burial dropped one of the best releases of the decade (Rival Dealer EP) before saying PEACE OUT IMMA play Dark Souls... forever apparently.

yesca, Friday, 21 April 2017 05:22 (six years ago) link

Except that he just released the Young Death/Nightmarket EP last fall?

Austin, Friday, 21 April 2017 06:02 (six years ago) link

Maybe he's still working on beating Dark Souls. He's this close to reaching the final boss.

Didn't like that at all so I didn't count it. :P

I don't know, 'Beachfires' is pretty good as an ambient thing.

But yeah, otherwise, these are some of his least captivating things.

And, again, it's just okay.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Thursday, 14 September 2017 19:47 (six years ago) link

i think "beachfires" is really cool, it sounds vaguely like it's telling a story to me, there's just a little more going on in the structure.. but not in an over the top clichedwaaambient way

brimstead, Friday, 15 September 2017 00:26 (six years ago) link

I think this is good. Somebody commission him to do the dark souls soundtrack
