Hurwitz has been on a few episodes of Harmon's podcast lately, and is generally hilarious.

is The Apple quite the cult thing, I've *never* heard of it, and I've seen a lot of shit in my time. (Hello Xanadu)

meant to add - had to watch this a second time. just terrific - might be my favourite episode ever.

And because of the Buck Rogers link in my head I was reminder of the South Park that riffed heavily on that I'm just going to post it (again)

That sent me down a trail of Buck Rogers clips. Never saw this show. Wasted youth :(
Buck Rogers Disco Dancing! biddibiddibiddibiddi It's expressive. Really impressed by how the musician figured out what the hell dumbass Buck wanted.

Well the Apple is about disco fascism, and at some points in the movie they decide everyone has to wear these holographic triangles at all times. Pretty sure there was a direct reference to that.

this episode was so so great.

Perfect episode in every way. Dean's rap probably the funniest moment of the season. I was in tears.

How in the fuck did this show stay so fucking good after Glover left?

OMG VINCE GILLIGAN'S GUEST SPOT

He looks so at sea in the coda with Gina gershon. Makes me love him all the more.

TheMenzies, Friday, 14 March 2014 15:03 (ten years ago) link

Supposedly he kept protesting to Harmon "I'm not an actor!" Harmon's response was basically, "Great! Use that!"

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 14 March 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link

my bro and I replayed the "Barack Obama is scared of me" part until we were sufficiently laughed out and could move on

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Saturday, 15 March 2014 03:02 (ten years ago) link

The payday gag was lost somewhere over the altantic. I assume it's some kind of snack bar.

Making an early 90s VCR game the central conceit of an episode gives me the feeling that Dan Harmon et al are gloriously flying the Enterprise straight into the sun just to see what they can get away with.

President Frankenstein (kingfish), Saturday, 15 March 2014 07:01 (ten years ago) link

Ps we had the I, Robot VCR game when I was 13

President Frankenstein (kingfish), Saturday, 15 March 2014 07:03 (ten years ago) link

This episode was great. And now I also know that my complete dragon strike boardgame at home is worth something.

this was a brilliant episode, and still for all that dean pelton was the MVP

Chang's confession was great too

I got the glares, the mutterings, the snarls (President Keyes), Saturday, 15 March 2014 13:16 (ten years ago) link

On some level the show feels less ambitious than it did in season 2, even though its basically doing the same thing. Only then it felt like "who knows where this could go?" And now its "celebrations of obscure reference points that still focus on the emotional dynamics between the characters, that's what we do." I used to worry the show would turn Family Guy but its got way too much heart to do that right now. So it's a little low impact and I can't imagine non-nerd people who aren't already into it getting into it, but I don't care because I'm so grateful for it.
