no there's really no point.

there is supposed to be some kind of search mechanic where he hunts for hidden items for you. but that's what the internet it for. i never tried it so idk how it works.

the ifruit app is pretty bad all around

So my kindle fire and Samsung Galaxy ace smartphone are apparently not good enough to install iFruit.

That's pretty shitty stuff from Rockstar imo.

on the plus side, it really is awful man, so dont mourn too much

just tried figuring out one of the odder details of this thing - what the radar colors mean in online. and, it makes no sense

http://gtaforums.com/topic/612225-i-dont-understand-the-deathmatch-radarblip-system/

Not trying to bump my own thread but this is the first result on google for this sort of thing so I thought I should give an update (plus I can't seem to edit my posts on mobile). I've finally realised what the problem is: blip colours in TDM are reversed for some reason, so your blip is blue when youre hidden and changes to grey when you become visible. Whereas in regular DM it starts white and changes to red when you have been spotted. It's slightly different in LTS too; your blip is grey when hidden and blue when visible. Really confusing having it different for each game mode.

i mean it's a forum post so big grain of salt but yeah

goole, Tuesday, 18 February 2014 18:04 (ten years ago) link

what's the deal with that googlemaps pplains linked to 2 days ago?

NI, Thursday, 20 February 2014 01:47 (ten years ago) link

Someone made a passing mention elsewhere that the Portugese island of Flores resembles San Andreas somewhat. I can kinda see what they're talking about, with the river bleeding in from the west, the mountain ranges, the little astro-boy cowlick at the top.

But maybe not.

pplains, Thursday, 20 February 2014 03:03 (ten years ago) link

yeah it really does, i thought it was a fake island plonked in the middle of the ocean by googlemaps. have rockstar said anything about it?

NI, Thursday, 20 February 2014 03:10 (ten years ago) link

i dunno about that—for one, where's the giant city

socki (s1ocki), Thursday, 20 February 2014 16:17 (ten years ago) link

It's right where the subway is – o wait, forgot about you.

There's a mission right now called Rooftop Rumble where you shoot up about a dozen or so bad guys in a parking garage and then hightail it back to Martin's place with a dropped package. Pretty quick mission that nets something crazy like $18750 and 4000 RP when you do it.

Played it a bunch of times with this one guy who was hosting it. He'd set the difficulty to 1.5 and knew all these tricks like hiding out in wall breaches until the mean people disappeared. I went from 72 to 74 ranking in no time and made close to $100,000 easily.

We'd finish the job and go back to Freemode since they won't let you keep hitting replay any more. He'd stand to the side and go into pause mode while I would deposit my money. Then he'd vanish like in Star Trek and within seconds, I'd get the invitation for another round.

But here's the thing - all of his cars had clown horns. So we'd finish the shootout and the first thing he'd do is squeeze that clown horn for me to come around and meet him. Or we'd go back to freemode, and a few times he'd get into his car and squeeze the clown horn for me to get in while we paused and deposited. It was like having Harpo Marx as a partner in crime.

On one mission we ran, two others showed up to play in the invite menu. With four of us, we all made quick work of the garage staff, but one of the new guys picked up the package. Harpo got nervous and kept driving up to the guy, squeezing that clown horn. I got into the car with the second guy, and the four of us drove up toward Martin's - first guy; me and the second guy; and Harpo in the rear with these clown honks that kept weaker in sound.

Right before the first guy delivered the package, Harpo committed suicide.

Was he a kid? Was he autistic? Did he just have an accident in the hills and kill himself that way, not necessarily committing suicide? Whole thing was weird, but like I said, made some bank in the meantime.

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Thursday, 20 February 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

Not sure what a true sufferer of aspergerers would do with a mission called Rooftop Rumble WHERE THERE IS NO ROOFTOP LOCATION INTEGRAL TO THE MISSION.

will you settle for "toontown noir"

I fucking hate hate hate flying in this game. Done the Trevor airstrip thing a bunch of times, crashed on landing each time, no idea how the fuck I'm supposed to slow the plane down. F u game

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 22:48 (ten years ago) link

I can't believe a GTA game has a half-baked, unclear, broken or just plain shitty game mechanic

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:05 (ten years ago) link

Maybe you guys should just get better at the game

polyphonic, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:12 (ten years ago) link

flying is best in first person view. but the sound for when your gear goes up and down is pretty quiet so you might have flip back and forth to check.

you slow down with left trigger?

goole, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:14 (ten years ago) link

Finally gathered all letter scraps and ufo. Both anticlimactic as was expected. Pay-offs are crap really.

Epsilon done. Now just tracts to gather. I am sticking with it but not going to try for 100%. Don't really enjoy replaying mains oddly enough and I really thought as I was playing them first time around I would because I could relax but I'm a way I just found myself wondering why bother...

I think the game is amazing and enjoyed a slight return to CJ but the Michael and Franklin characters weren't that finished. I liked the fact that Franklin was engaged with his decisions and got the fun.

This is probably the first game I would buy DLC if it's released as large areas of the map feel unused.

I would also buy PPlains book "L'EtranGTAr".

hyggeligt, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:19 (ten years ago) link

ah so you slow the plane down with the car brake, that would have been a cool thing for the game to tell me, kept fucking around with the rudder controls which were the only thing i saw them mention like an idiot

Corpsepaint Counterpaint (jjjusten), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:59 (ten years ago) link

my landing gear kept going up and down like it couldn't fuckin make up its mind. flying is definitely kinda hard. i love the shit out of trevor's drug running missions (including the ones with the dune buggy) because you're made to redo them until you're totally on point. most of the rest of the game you don't have to actually be that good at.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 27 February 2014 01:04 (ten years ago) link

RT throttles the plane up too, if that wasn't obvious.

i don't remember when the flight school opens in relation to the trevor airstrip missions, but going thru those maxes out flight skill for each character. tedious but useful (like going thru each shooting range challenge with each character) (yes i did this)

goole, Thursday, 27 February 2014 01:12 (ten years ago) link

i don't have a ton of data to support this but flying seems like a p easy way to earn RP and cash in the online game? i was pretty frustrated with the mechanics at first but once i learned to just take things niiiiiiiice and easy (instead of with the pell mell style favored on the road), i found it p simple to take first in most of the (like, five) air races I've since entered. most ppl seem to crash out because they're trying to fly like they're driving a motorbike, so just ~not crashing~ is often enough to stake out a sizable and domineering lead

gbx, Thursday, 27 February 2014 03:41 (ten years ago) link

i have no idea how feasible it would be, but making yourself into flying specialist (a pilot, even!) in the online game could be lucrative?

gbx, Thursday, 27 February 2014 03:43 (ten years ago) link

gbx you are dead right. i have lost almost every road race i've taken part in. i've won almost every plane race, and its not even been close.

you are clinically deaf and should sell you iPod (stevie), Thursday, 27 February 2014 07:28 (ten years ago) link

Curious, to those who are claiming 100% and/or finding all the hidden packages, did you cheat or was it all pure exploration?

I'm not cheating and still have quite a lot to find, good going if you have found this stuff without looking it up.

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Thursday, 27 February 2014 09:15 (ten years ago) link

I finally got the last spaceship part last night, used a guide to find them. It would take years to stumble across some of them by chance.

nate woolls, Thursday, 27 February 2014 10:44 (ten years ago) link

Plus it was a good way to spend the 10 days Michael has to wear the Epsilon robes for.

nate woolls, Thursday, 27 February 2014 10:44 (ten years ago) link

i cheated. life is short.

goole, Thursday, 27 February 2014 15:35 (ten years ago) link

I bought the Brady Games guide and had it to hand after finishing the missions. Agree with Goole: Life is short and very full of other non-GTA things. Have to maximise bang for X-Buck!

hyggeligt, Thursday, 27 February 2014 22:28 (ten years ago) link

Fair enough, just wanted to know. I agree though for the newer GTA games, I never found all the pigeons in IV nor all the seagulls in Gay Tony. The earlier games weren't as big and it felt a lot easier to find stuff in those ones. Vice City was perfect size for hunting hidden packages.

V is vast, and yeah I'll probably never find them all before I get bored of the game.

things I did today:
- world record on two races (the fly around downtown one and In The Pipeline)
- sniped a guy from the tallest building as he was on his way to Simeon's. like, on the bridge right by the gun shop that's closest to Simeon's place on the docks. while he was driving. I am irrationally proud of this
