I was just reading about the propsed soundtrack for this thing, supposedly going to be split into thirds with Henry Cow, Pink Floyd and Magma.

I've been reading a lot of The Incal comic reprints lately. They have all been excellent so far.

score was great! film in general was p fun, not a ton of new stuff I didn't know but nice to see all the players reminiscing and some of the animatics were pretty cool.

Rad movie. Best parts were Jodo's stories about trying to recruit Dali and his reaction to seeing the David Lynch "Dune" but the whole thing was delightful.

such a lively character (84 year-old Jodorowsky), his conviction (enthusiasm, bitterness etc.) is so apparent, it's really inspiring.

"Such a lively character" He is like a perfect composite of all the worst aspects of every pretentious bore you could meet in a lifetime and his movies are childish fucking idiotic garbage.

I've no doubt his Dune would have been a royal mess. I get the impression Jodorowsky has a lot of interest in the visual, stylistic, and iconographic potentialities in Dune, but he hardly talks about the story at all.

So uh... a customer brought in an old, illustrated/storyboarded script for Jodorowsky's Dune. I'm going to try to get photos of the illustrations because they're kind of awesome. Don't know who did them - doesn't look like Moebius or anything. This doesn't look exactly like the book in the documentary, btw.

that's harsh. i have to admit he comes across as really charming in the documentary about his abortive attempt at "dune", but i still couldn't help thinking "if this movie ever got made, it would be terrible." i kind of like some of jodorowsky's films, but they're essentially kitsch.

he has really clean veneers these days

although interestingly i think the david lynch dune has the same essential problem as i imagine a jodorowsky dune would have. lynch doesn't seem very engaged in the complex story and it comes across as incoherent, so it's really just one stunning visual after another with not much to anchor them.

i still enjoy watching it, though, almost as an art installation rather than a narrative.

Like, I have no idea who drew these. They may actually be early sketches by someone connected to Jodorowsky himself. They don't have the finished look of the things I've seen in the movie.

I doubt this stuff is directly related to Jodo's DUNE. It doesn't look like his own drawings (as in "Fabulas Panicas") and dude had top tier illustrators/artists on his team. This looks more like Mingering Mike!

Yeah it's bizarre. The script is titled DUNE by Alejandro Jodorowsky, and the customer who brought it in is a reliable guy and says he got it in the 70s... it's a mystery. But I love it.

The book is bound, btw, but the illustrations look like they were originally in a 3-hole binder and are on a different stock than the typed script.

I really don't know much about Jodorowsky's films or other writing but both The Incal and The Technopriests are fantastic comic novels.

We're listing it for the guy who brought it in, so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. I'm going to at least try to photograph all of the plates, if I can I'll scan it. Don't want it to disappear into some dude's library forever...

Those script pages are even worse than the pix. Just started reading Dune; doubtimg there's anything so room-temperature-IQ middle school in this novel (hope not)

Maybe I posted on another thread, I got the incal a couple of christmases ago. It was abysmal.

He's been paired with some truly stunning comic artists. His plots are nonsense, but I'm willing to roll with it and enjoy the art.

I gave up on The Incal pretty early. Moebius was not fully operational and I think even Jodorowsky was disappointed in his work there.

Santa Sangre is great, an ultra-lurid telenovela-style horror movie. But it's a regular movie-movie, with a plot and whatnot, not a pure yank-your-brain-out-your-ass shotgun blast of symbolism like The Holy Mountain. I don't think any movie on earth is like The Holy Mountain, really.

I think all his famous comics from before that had better artwork. I wasn't that impressed by his art on Madwoman Of The Sacred Heart either
