there are people who will sexualize ANYTHING! disney movies, comic books, w/e, and the term bronie does not refer to people who do that - it's not like being a 'furry' or w/e - the word refers to fans, period! so that's fucked up to tar kids who like a cartoon with that brush

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:20 (ten years ago) link

theres tons of furrys who arent into it in a sick sex way

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:21 (ten years ago) link

but its also a fair point that preteens are gonna sexualize any media theyre engaging with, but that is not necessarily 'creepy' or something to make fun of xp

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:22 (ten years ago) link

xp - 4 real?

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:22 (ten years ago) link

are there a sizable number of people who sexualize these cartoon ponies? is this real or is it just internet smoke and mirrors shit?

tɹi.ʃɪp (Treeship), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:25 (ten years ago) link

wrt adults & plush holes i'm reminded of the hideous & profoundly nsfw oneohtrix point never video for still life -http://warp.net/records/oneohtrix-point-never/still-life-betamale-video-and-stream-r-plus-seven - which mostly makes me wonder why someone bothered to make it

ogmor, Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:25 (ten years ago) link

yeah theres always been regular anthro people who dont get any sexual kick out of it, they just like the art or the costumes or whatever, and then there's the (sizable) subsection for whom its a sex thing

i think its just called 'bronies'! its on netflix, and very boring tbh because there is nothing notable about these kids unless youre aghast that a boy would be into a 'girl thing'

iirc this was made with the explicit aim to give bronies a better name... like if you ever watch one of them prison guard TV shows on basic cable they never show you the roided out dudes who want to crack some black people skulls. they show you captain america and hard working mom

fwiw i know some furries and bronies and most of them are sickos, i dont judge anyone for being a fucked up ass freakshow who's thirsty for futa pony cum, and in fact i dont think not being into that stuff makes you better than anyone who is... but it is definitely funny as shit and they will all admit to that and would rather joke about it with u than be looked at like tragic wounded birds

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:27 (ten years ago) link

"sizable" no

enough to find really weird jpegs if youre looking for them - like anything else on the internet lol - YES

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:27 (ten years ago) link

it was made to give bronies a better name WHY? like, maybe this was encouraged by huge groups of teenagers and kids who are into the show because its good and are tired of being equated with 50 year old duded who want to fuck horses?

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:28 (ten years ago) link

*dudes

There's someone who is into everything. I saw a show recently where a guy was in a sexual (he made a big point of emphasizing the sex part) relationship with 20 inflatable pool toys.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:30 (ten years ago) link

I think I was more shocked by his ability to juggle so many of them rather than the fact that he was screwing floaty dragons tbh. They had names and he took them on dates and everything.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:31 (ten years ago) link

xp or are you saying this movie was made by pervy old dudes as propaganda and none of the footage of the conventions, etc, is real

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:31 (ten years ago) link

i prob shouldnt speak on it any more without having seen the doc, im just saying theres a reason bronies have a certain reputation that say angry beaver fans dont have, despite the existence of this guy:

http://i.imgur.com/mkAAgK1.png

but now that im thinking about it maybe Q from star trek has a point, if its really the small yet vocal minority of freakish bronies making the normal gentle souled ones look bad, maybe his doc is doing good

AIDS (Hungry4Ass), Tuesday, 11 February 2014 03:56 (ten years ago) link

so i guess the only possible mark against bronies the weird sex shit huh

I never got a "male kids into female-targeted cartoon" vibe, although that is a good basis for a film showing these are just kids who like a well-scripted animated show. I tend to get a "people who are socially awkward and older than the target audience who are engaging with the source material in deviant ways because they are neurotypical but very socially underdeveloped and have sexual attachments to cartoon horses" thing.

I have met one dude who I was told was a brony, who was married with a real adult job, and he couldn't read social cues. Like, at all.

there really has to be a word for the accelerated way that underground culture can go from "hey this thing is pretty cool" to "THIS PONY IS MY WAIFU LIL B YOU CAN FUCK MY BITCH" faster than ever

Another thing is that MLP is not for anyone over the age of 8. If there were clubs sprouting all around us of 14-year-old "children" rubbing their dicks up on stuffed Care Bears (no, I haven't googled yet, don't wanna), I'd be preaching from the same podium.

Do I care about the clubs? Nah. Do I care that it's boys liking a girl thing? Nah. Is it the sexualization of a goddam pop-tart colored equestrian universe created for children but jizzed on by weirdos in fedoras? Yeah, maybe.

what makes shirley temple creepy idgi?

Mordy , Tuesday, 11 February 2014 19:55 (ten years ago) link

nothing creepy about MLP, either. bronies are fans. i'm sure ST has similarly creepy fans, they just lack name & currency.

also i get the feeling that MLP fandom is in general prob pretty harmless & uncreepy, but the popular perception of it gets skewed due the intersection of 4chan crepedom and internet ppl needing memes to glom

except that the current iteration of the show is made for teenagers, and is good enough that many non-weirdo adults are into it, kinda like power puff girls

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:38 (ten years ago) link

not nec made for teenagers, per se, but the creator def quoted as saying she wanted it to have wide appeal so that teens and even adults could enjoy the writing and characters

doesnt really explain dude fuckin norbert's toes upthread, or w/e fucked up shit goes on with that shit, but i couldn't rally care less about that and i don't think common enough to warrant concern tbh. just kind of not down with vilifying children for stupid reasons, don't really care about hurting's furry BFFs or w/e

My roomie and I watched an ep after we watched the doc

It was good & I wouldn't leave the room if somebody else was watching it

Gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.

At least these kids are playing dress-up in pony clothes and not doing something really dreadful, like playing soccer.

pplains, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 01:50 (ten years ago) link

it's a good show.

wonder how many grown men watch(/are fucking plushies related to) adventure time

haven't seen the new MLP but i can't imagine it's not better than the shitty old one.

the new MLP characters just look like powerpuff-style nu-cartoon characters, the old MLP featured some of the creepiest and least appealing character designs i've ever seen:

the pic i posted was something i found online this weekend, and whoever posted it claims that it's from a Bronycon w/ some of the people dressed up as whichever of the MLPs tickled their fancy. take that for what it's worth.

i haven't actually watched any MLP episodes -- not b/c i'm afraid i'll get brony cooties, but b/c i've been too busy lately and have a super-long list of other TV shows i want to see first/regularly watch and need to get caught up on. i kind of assume that the appeal has to do w/ the fact that it's produced by the same person who produced the Powerpuff Girls which also appealed to people outside of its target audience (though i don't remember any sort of creepy perving on any of the girls or Mojo Jojo -- then again, that show was pre-4chan so who the fuck knows).

but i'm w/ cankles and pplains here -- bronies have their rep for a reason. perving on cartoon horses -- even if said pervs are a loud minority -- is gross and wrong, no matter what. i'm sure that most bronies are OK more or less (though i'll also admit that it's funny to laugh at them even if it's a bit shameful to do that) and if the brony documentary focuses on the non-pervs in their ranks then good.

also, the "sea ponies" skit from old-school MLP was interesting in a trippy/lol acid-trip-in-a-preteen-girls-cartoon kind of way. otherwise, it had zero appeal for anyone not in the target demographic.

thus giving rise to the "sea-pony brony" subgenre.
