Haha, so did I. Not that I like Britpop generally - but I quite like Common People, and there was no way I was going to vote for that - it just didn't need my votes.

Except I missed a lot of stuff off my initial shortlist due to over-enthusiastic pruning of the nominations. Anyway, tactics, schmactics, it's a POLL OF STUFF YOU LIKE!
I haven't got the hang of ILM, have I?

I'm going to lose a lot of points for this, but the more I listen to "Common People" the more it sounds to me like self-righteous, hypocritical, Albarn-esque snarkiness. It's still a fabulous song but I just don't feel it at the moment. Leaning much more towards Cocker's naive, whimsical side ("Babies," D2000) than his working class hero act recently.
Also, I was very much under the impression that "Energy Flash" was not nominated. I certainly would have voted for it if it was.

'Toxic' is my favourite of all, by far, though, so I'm not sure how far this mindmeld extends.

Me too, though I can't really explain why. 'Common People' is like going to the opera, maybe. It's just too much to casually enjoy as the singalong anthem that everyone else seems to be able to treat it as.

I like the songs where Brit's inability to sing is an asset rather than a hindrance (this is why all of the banging dance tunes where she's used as a sound-effect are great and the mid-tempo pop numbers and the ballads don't work at all).

By everyone, do you mean those "common" people, Alba? (I used to have exactly the same problem with "Design for Life", then realised I didn't actually give a shit why other people liked it as it made no difference to whether I liked it or not)

It's just that it's too histrionic and big a song to listen to casually, for me, even on my own.

Maybe the "Enjoy the Silence" prediction is just wishful thinking on my part (my #1).

Anyway I'm really weirded out by the high placement of that britney song, and I have trouble imagining that SO many people really honestly think its that good of a song, and that many of its votes aren't just a reaction to rockist dismissals of britney by ppl like rentboy.
Anyway I sure don't like it, and it's no where near as good as Toxic or I'm A Slave or, yes, Genie in a Bottle.

I'm pretty sure at least one DP song will make it, whether it'll be "Da Funk" or "Around the World" is anyone's guess.
I don't see "California Love" as a lock at all. Maybe it'll be there but it's not definite.
