"Breathe" is hilarious

falsetto guitar entry and "oh coz it's too late tonight to forget to breathe" = real genuine IRL lolz

I love the off-the-rails mad scientist feel of "Get On Your Boots"! "Breathe" is really funny, too. I keep wondering if "White As Snow" was meant to sound like U2 because instrumentally it really does, or at least like they sounded back when I used to like them!

This is very cool.

WmC, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 14:08 (fifteen years ago) link

here's the funny thing - if the above were a link to the actual U2 album i'd have no interest whatsoever. because it's y'all, i'm DLing it now - will report back!

Beatrix Kiddo, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 14:09 (fifteen years ago) link

nice job y'all. m bison and alextc in particular killed it, imo.

Tracy Michael Jordan Catalano (Jordan), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:09 (fifteen years ago) link

was listening to it again this morning and was struck by how thematically cohesive it is - internet age referendum / reflection on fame, pop music, social justice, stunna shades. maybe that's what makes it seem more aurally cohesive, the riffing on topic?

also wanna give a shoutout to "stand up comedy", the chewy off-center center of our tootsie roll pop clusterfuck

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:40 (fifteen years ago) link

still have not heard actual U2 album lol

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

lol, from The Ideal Copy newsletter sent out today:

The new U2 album is out today and we are bewildered that only one customer has ordered it from us. Many ordered the single which only results in more head-scratching about the album. (Speaking of the single, Get On Your Boots, we are attempting to track down the 3-Track CD single and will hopefully have that next week.)

It's tough to compete one price with the retail giants, but we're pretty sure we have the lowest price on the Vinyl release, plus we've finally activated and confirmed the Japanese Edition which does have one Bonus Track.

lol should we forward them our link, see if they do any better

Lots of praying with no breakfast! (HI DERE), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 15:43 (fifteen years ago) link

oh good, when the album flops they can blame us

Universal Music Group today announced a Q1 earnings impairment due to a surreptitious copycat release of U2's latest album which caused mass consumer confusion. Said one befuddled music fan, "I listened to what I thought was an Internet stream of the new U2 album, and it sounded like Bono's idea of a sick joke. I was so paralyzed by fear and loathing, I couldn't bring myself to buy it at Wal-mart. Also, the economy."

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 16:00 (fifteen years ago) link

oh my god that is classic.

Beatrix Kiddo, Tuesday, 3 March 2009 21:50 (fifteen years ago) link

Two songs that directly parody U2 seems like just the right amount.

the most disgusting savage on earth imo (The Reverend), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 23:12 (fifteen years ago) link

I like a lot of this! I think the Elvis Telecom track before it goes noizy is the high point (I like it after that as well, just not as much)

Luka ModReq (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 3 March 2009 23:13 (fifteen years ago) link

all i can say is it was awesome to contribute a jam to this, and that i am glad i bothered recording the vocal because it had to be done in one take in a closet while my wife was asleep and sick

oops that sounds like a personal question

鬼の手 (Edward III), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:26 (fifteen years ago) link

鬼の手 (Edward III), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i think now is as an appropriate use of this sentence closer as can ever be, but no she did not know i was in the closet, no homo.

Marrakesh and Ashley Olsen (m bison), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago) link

when it posted, she listened to the song and called me ridiculous (busting chops, not hateful btw!)

Marrakesh and Ashley Olsen (m bison), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago) link

hopefully she sang it to the tune of "magnificent"

鬼の手 (Edward III), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 04:04 (fifteen years ago) link

i am now creating that memory regardless if she did or not

Marrakesh and Ashley Olsen (m bison), Wednesday, 4 March 2009 04:06 (fifteen years ago) link

"Magnificent (Ridiculous Remix)"

Actually, there IS going to be a remix collection, surely.

so there's no album worth doing it again in the pipe ?

AlXTC from Paris, Friday, 11 June 2010 10:27 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a very individual situation.

Oasis are gorn, all the other bands that might have qualified for this kind of 'tribute' are not exactly superpremier league anymore (Stones, REM) and no-one else 'winds up' the select few like U2.

Or Coldplay.

Mark G, Friday, 11 June 2010 10:30 (thirteen years ago) link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Line_on_the_Horizon#Songs_of_Ascent

Supposedly an album of tracks discarded from NLotH. Also according to some rumours it has a reggae theme!

haha get to work ilxorz!

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Friday, 11 June 2010 10:42 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a partial and totally speculative tracklisting here, but it's not enough to go on. Also half of the tracks they list are out-takes from "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb", so probably won't be on "Songs of Ascent" anyway. The only confirmed song is "Every Breaking Wave".

Fat Dog Franklin (snoball), Friday, 11 June 2010 10:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Bono indicated that he had become "tired of [writing in] the first-person"

end of the world.

Defintely the new Arcade Fire album, although preferrably the joke tracklisting that was floating around. In fact, I volunteer to be the midwife that brings Neighborhood #5 (Hockey) kicking and screaming into the world.
