the Mr Meeseeks episode is the first one I've seen that I thought was funny

u didn't like the simulation episode? i thought the jerry subplot was hysterical. "yep."

i hate community so i'm surprised i like this show. i wish it was somewhat less southparky/scatological/trollish but there's enough of interest to make it worthwhile

The pilot left me cold and I haven't really been paying attention to it

i think the pilot was the weakest ep so far (the m night shmalyalien one was the best) tho i was already really impressed by the art + humor from the beginning

Fucking love this show, but yeah, the pilot is easily the weakest episode. The voice actors hadn't really settled in, and their verbal tics were really annoying.

I also kind of can't deal with the slobber/vomit on Rick's chin

Watching the pilot, Rick sounds an awful lot like he's based on Dan Harmon's verbal tics and heavy drinking

my guess is that the first season will have 10. Moral Orel had 10 in the first season, as did Frankenhole (MO got an expanded second season, Frankenhole just got 10 more). Squidbillies only had 6, and Venture Bros had 13 in the first season.

mordy, are any of those shows anything like rick & morty? i'm in the mood for smth good. have watched a half ep of venture bros and not really into it tbh.

squidbillies is stupid, but moral orel is alltime classic imho. also try china, il, metalocalypse + frisky dingo (by the guy who does archer now) - none of them are like rick + morty but they're all off-beat stoner friendly cartoons that premiered on adult swim so in that way they're all exactly like rick + morty.

I really should give this another try, the pilot really didn't work for me but I keep hearing it's gotten better.

Venture Bros will always be the ultimate Adult Swim animated thing but the long breaks between seasons drive me nuts.

this probably sounds like an excuse, but venture bros takes patience. i basically hated it at first, but it builds on itself and just keeps getting better as it goes. easily one of the best things adult swim has aired.

there's eleven episodes in season one btw, so five still to come.

last episode was every bad thing about harmon's style rolled into one: vapid sentimentality, pointless improvisational teenage blathering heavy on the pop culture references, fourth wall breaking, DEEP MEANING without meaning ("i eat breakfast every morning twenty yards from my rotting corpse")... it's been a mostly good and occasionally very good show until here but man do i hope they hold off on this penny arcade ish in the future

Oh, I fucking loved this episode. Might be my third favorite, after Meeeseeeks and the alien simulator.

lol i really liked this episode too - not sure i'd put it in my top 3 tho bc cronenberg ep was still better + this seemed more improv/pastiche which is great + hilarious but maybe not quite as masterful as some of the others?

Is this the one with the sex robot? That one is the first I actually disliked. The Marmaduke writer appearing at the end seemed very "Family Guy" and too many of the jokes relied on tired "battle of the sexes" tropes.

no, this is the one w/ the tv + alternate reality device. i thought the conclusion was even a little affecting. and the improv commercials + shows were hilarious

is it me or in just about every other episode the dad has something happen that makes him feel good about himself, feel competent/relevant, only to crushingly return hto his more usual mediocrity. apple ad campaign being a major success in the alien's virtual reality, he's some kind of survival hero protecting his daughter and wife, this time he's a big celebrity on pluto etc.
also the opening & closing bits of butter robot wondeing about his purpose and summer & rick montage killed me.

I admit it was because he had a fuzzy beard, and back that I was prejudiced against people with facial hair. The irony is that Justin Roiland, who has been consistently well-groomed - bearded, but well-groomed - is in fact the serial sex predator. Not Pendleton Ward.

And unfortunately Roiland also had a recurring role on that as the Earl of Lemongrab.

I've seen that behind-the-scenes clip of him getting drunk while recording a take, not saying it was a smoking gun or anything, but it did make me think he "Urghh, this guy's actually kind of a dick".

I haven't watched Family Guy since the early seasons but people said the new actor for Cleveland is dead-on, and there are some pretty good R&M impersonators out there. I also didn't realize that Roiland has not been part of the writing for a few years now, so it seems they won't have too much trouble going forward

I had only watched the first episode of this show before yesterday. My son had shown it to me when he was in middle school and I was thoroughly repulsed and never went back for more. For whatever reason, yesterday I decided to give it another chance and threw a few more episodes on. I'm still skeptical that I'll find much value in it, but my plan was to keep trying to engage. Then as soon as I flipped it off, I went to check the news and saw the news about his domestic violence.

Finished season 2 yesterday and I'm in no hurry to continue. I've seen enough to learn what people like about it, but have been overwhelmed by too many butts and pendulous testicular shapes to continue for now.

I don't think there was a bad season.

The example I gave was to illustrate how silly it was at times which is why objecting to his sophomoric ideas was silly (as opposed to some of the much more heinous shit he's been accused of)

It had an overall great concept but was already getting into dimishing returns territory, putting aside the puerile shit like the abovementioned. There's only so much you can do with "ha ha we can just make up anything cos we broke the rules of physics" before it just starts getting confusing and repetitive.

yea the first few episodes I watched of this show got me pretty excited but once you see a bad episode you kinda lose all enthusiasm for it. definitely some funny bits but there's very much a "dude staring at you while he plays his favorite Family Guy clips" vibe to it

when I discovered Xavier: Renegade Angel one of my first thoughts (outside of "what the fuck?") was "this is what Rick and Morty was trying to do"...feel like you can't just commit halfway to this sort of thing
