Just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's not true.

First saw this one on an ILM thread and it still startles me - I've never seen such a mix of colours on any other album, ever. It reminds me of something a gifted 11-year old might create with water paints in 6th grade art class. (That's a compliment.)

I've been thinking a "best Fall cover art" poll is in order. Or "worst Fall cover art." Its so hard to decide which is which.

Anyways, I've posted this before, but it bears repeating.

It's so easy to be sarcastic. Do people ever post great album covers in "Worse Album Covers Ever" threads?

I didn't know The Beatles had an album called "084994"... Was it their industrial record?

Tuomas, Friday, 22 August 2008 11:48 (fifteen years ago) link

Or is "084994" nerd writing for "Obama"?

Tuomas, Friday, 22 August 2008 11:58 (fifteen years ago) link

yes

George looks like he's actually eaten a baby.

That album was to be subtitled "how to end your career in America before it's really started"

I know, lol 90s post-rock aesthetic, helvetica-style font, etc., but it's still awesome

I think, surprisingly, it's the Prodigy.

gnarly sceptre, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Why were you snooping around your bosses office? Does he know you were in there?

Just wondering.

Um. Today is my last day so I was training my replacement yesterday. She was sitting at my desk and he was out so I was at his. The tape was sitting right next to the keyboard. No snooping involved.

I think, surprisingly, it's the Prodigy.

Right. It's from Music for the Jilted Generation

Kevin John Bozelka, Friday, 22 August 2008 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

That's gotta rate among the greatest inside sleeves ever. And I think the actual cover for MftJG is pretty great too.

Tuomas, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

The only thing I never understood about that pic is, why does that dude look like some sort of a metalhead and not a raver?

Tuomas, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

Someone already posted Nigtclubbing which is awesome too, but this is my favourite Grace Jones cover:

Tuomas, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:20 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, but that album is only okay

Lotta great Grace Jones art out there:

the exceptions to the great Grace Jones covers are far fewer than the instances

far far fewer

As long as the woman herself actually appears on the cover...

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:47 (fifteen years ago) link

They ain't all great, but I'll defend this one:

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj242/donaldparsley/Grace-Living.jpg

contenderizer, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:52 (fifteen years ago) link

and this one is ... interesting:

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj242/donaldparsley/Grace-Slave.jpg

contenderizer, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:53 (fifteen years ago) link

and these two are interesting relative to one another:

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj242/donaldparsley/Grace-Muse.jpg http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj242/donaldparsley/Grace-Inside.jpg

but, yeah, we've come a long way from awesome...

contenderizer, Friday, 22 August 2008 19:55 (fifteen years ago) link

one year passes...

Maybe no mind numbing just sitting on the shelf, but when fully realized this is probably one of the coolest covers I've ever seen
