Word from Lorde's publicist (who I'm friendly with) is that she's actually a Cramps fan. As such, I look forward to her inevitable cover of "Goo Goo Muck."

I've long had a hunch that Poison Idea would follow after the Ramones then Motorhead then Black Flag T-shirt photo opportunities were depleted.

Shaina Twain in a Ramones shirt.

nyc-n why is t-shirt authenticity so important to your spirituality

you know wearing a t-shirt is not the same thing as being a person right

j., Friday, 21 February 2014 19:13 (ten years ago) link

it's like in trading places when louis sees billy ray being driven around in his car and wearing his harvard repp tie and he's more upset about the tie than the car.

slugbuggy, Friday, 21 February 2014 19:40 (ten years ago) link

i love that he thinks kickball katy, who has been in the nyc underground for like 7 years, is some poser for wearing a poison idea shirt

is the thread title not worded so we can at least attempt to catalogue these instances w/o getting Alex in NYC abt it

imago bantz and the deems context (DJ Mencap), Friday, 21 February 2014 19:50 (ten years ago) link

xpost, i mean't bendy not nyc

*plop* son (Whiney G. Weingarten), Friday, 21 February 2014 19:52 (ten years ago) link

(xp) based on thread title, it would probably be fair to post every photo of every musician who has ever worn a band t-shirt -- even, in some instances, musicians wearing their own band's t-shirt.

fact checking cuz, Friday, 21 February 2014 19:55 (ten years ago) link

Not saying Katy is a poser, but I'm guessing she's leading the way for subsequent Poison Idea t-shirt appearances.

I realize that people reading the first posts in a 6 1/2 year old thread are not likely.

But for those who are thinking this thread is about people making fun of people for wearing shirts they shouldn't, or whatever, we had that argument 6 1/2 years ago.

We're not (for the most part) being elitist, pointing and laughing at the "posers" or whatever. We're just posting pictures.

As the guy who started the thread, I think it's pretty cool when some pop star wears a Ramones, Motorhead or Darkthrone shirt.

aren't vivian girls and poison idea both punk bands? not sure i follow..

brimstead, Friday, 21 February 2014 23:00 (ten years ago) link

You know that female musicians just spend all day sitting around thinking "what t-shirt can I wear that will piss the *most* dudes off?"

It's true; this is totally a thing. We have meetings and stuff.

Anyway, I'm just gonna keep posting this picture more and more because it makes me laugh so much.

No one finds dudes from a wimpy indie boyband in Mortician and AC/DC shirts funny? No one?

Oh, I give up.

Thank you for clearing that up! Wear whatever you want, make whatever music you want. I am pretty sure Fenriz would approve of both.

tbh I have absolutely no idea who that is.

I am *shocked* that Moby would be wearing a Bad Brains t-shirt, I mean it's not like he was in an early 80s hardcore band or anything.

Just noise and screaming and no musical value at all. (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 22 February 2014 10:00 (ten years ago) link

It's the Lead Hipster from Interpol and his similarly indie-sounding solo-ish band, dressed up as metal dudes for a joke. (One of them is actually quite seriously into metal, see if you can spot which one, and actually they were taking the piss out of that guy by dressing like that; but, that band still sounds absolutely nothing like any of the bands on those shirts.)

((I guess maybe it would have been more obvious if I'd picked the one where he is not just wearing an ironic Van Halen t-shirt but also a *trucker hat* for maximum hipster points, but the wall of all four of them is funnier than just the one.))

OH GOD I AM TALKING ABOUT INTERPOL AGAIN, SHOOT ME. This is starting to reach OCD proportions.

But, y'know, hipster boy-dudes in metal shirts don't even pass notice, while the girl-bassist from an actual punk band wearing a punk t-shirt is OMG THE VAPOURS HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE.

Combat Cretaceous Renewal (Branwell Bell), Saturday, 22 February 2014 10:25 (ten years ago) link

im with mark. no idea who that band was. Im gonna have a guess its your latest faves Interpol?

xp

i saw a girl in a t shirt the other day. it wasn't even a rock n roll shirt, it was just the honey nut cheerios bee. but it made me wonder - has she ever even had honey nut cheerios?

contenderizer, Saturday, 22 February 2014 11:32 (ten years ago) link

I thought the band in BB's pic was Metallica, so I was like, "what's so weird about Metallica wearing AC/DC shirts?". (Though TBH I have no idea what Interpol sounds like, but I take your word that they're not like AC/DC.)

Tuomas, Saturday, 22 February 2014 11:54 (ten years ago) link

Tuomas do you know what AC/DC sounds like? :)

Wear a Tshirt of some band you never heard and when quizzed on it talk at length about the sleeve designer and say are you a fan of their work then

saw a girl being lifted into an ambulance while wearing a tiara and L plates. call me a rockist but I had grave doubts that she was actual royalty, or a car

great thread.

Firstly, it's not "Interpol" it's Paul Banks' solo band. Interpol do not *do* t-shirts, or jeans. It is against their ~design aesthetic~. Or, erm, something.

Secondly, I actually have no idea what the name of Paul Banks' solo band's drummer is. Sorry. I totally fail at fangirl. It would, however, be quite funny if Banks' band were comprised of all those hard rock and metalish dudes and yet still managed to sound not in the slightest bit hard or even rock. :-P
