Top one is lovely!

Got a couple of rolls of film developed today, though nothing on them taken in 2014.

michaellambert, Thursday, 2 January 2014 17:51 (ten years ago) link

hey thank you michael. yeah they are 35mm; i keep meaning to post some digi-snaps here from my cellphone but otherwise i am always 35mm. i am getting a lil better at scanning - i bought compressed air & gloves! - but it's still kinda frustrating seeing others' superior scans. i posted some really lovely dale bolender pics in another thread, they are the kind of thing i'm half in love with & half just jealous of the processing of. your pics are nice, too; motion blur is something that beguiled me when i started taking pictures, i lost interest in & now am hyped about again.

You seem to be doing a great job with your scans so far, schlump. I get pretty jealous of others' superior scans, but it's patience and practice to some extent, isn't it?

Grady, I got lucky - only had my phone and my XA with me, didn't expect to see any of those things but glad I did.

michaellambert, Friday, 3 January 2014 19:35 (ten years ago) link

i keep meaning to revive an old maybe-chinavision-authored ILP thread about workflows & stuff, because i feel like i have just slowly stumbled on the weird process of scanning & adjusting colours for negative scans, googling VUESCAN HELP every couple of weeks & stopping doing things wrongly. i do enjoy getting just-about-okay-enough to succeed in scanning at some acceptable level, then getting comfortable, & then feeling able to try to do another thing with scans, though; if i look back over the past year they are gradually more correct, gradually less dusty, gradually more consistent between frames & so on.

I should leave the 50 on there for a week and shoot B&W JPEGs wide-open at ISO 6400...

I probably won't have anything to post here for awhile. I have a lot of scans recently, but am not ready to do anything with them yet. Gotta spend time on some other non-scanning activities for the winter probably.

Speaking of scanning though, I usually do batches of about 20-30 rolls over a period of a week or two, and for the record my scans are often actually kinda dusty. I figure if I really like a picture I can rescan or just clone out the dust. Or just roll with it. Never had any luck with Vuescan. Always gave me weird color casts or clipped highlights. And some rolls are just hard to scan and get the colors right. Others are super easy.

Actually I probably should try to process and upload some pictures soon. I might start just dumping stuff on flickr.

Anyone ever get photobooks printed? I'm thinking of doing some cheap ones just to get in the practice of editing.

龜 that's so rad. i feel like i newly understand how it must feel to be just a full-blown, rangefinderforum frequent poster, receptive to the charm of just gear pictures, of seeing film in multiples. & what's legacy 400 like?? & what are you gonna do with the 120? just to throw down an ILP-wide schlump endorsement on this topic f w i w i would totally be fooling with this if i shot 120, i miss the 135 unbearably,

http://thedigitalvisual.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/0900688a80cd133b_EKN028095_EKTACHROME_E100G_120_front_645x370-e1330649377793.jpg

china i miss seeing your photos. NO PRESSURE. make a book. emmet gowin's first book was just five copies i think. so there's a book. i should make a book. i feel you about the scanning, though i am sticking with vuescan for now, i don't know what else i'd use with just a desktop scanner. the nikon programme seemed pretty good.

I still have a bunch shot but unprocessed in my fridge, like when bobby in the sopranos had the last baked zitti his wife made in the freezer, saving it

mustread guy (schlump), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:24 (ten years ago) link

I have a document somewhere - probably on the old laptop - detailing film stock and where stuff is (e.g., "Fuji Reala 100, exp Aug 13, complete Jan 12 2013, top drawer" and "Provia 400F, exp Sep 10, Bronica SQ-A (9 of 12)". I know I have at least one APS, a couple of 135s and a 120 awaiting processing. Every camera has a roll in it, including the Polaroid back for the Bronica. Nothing will be processed within expiry dates at this rate.

Meanwhile, bike saddles. They're still around.

I took my medium format camera out today in an attempt to finish the roll of film, took two photos and went home. Just wasn't into it at all. It's starting to worry me.

michaellambert, Sunday, 31 August 2014 16:35 (nine years ago) link

well for me the stuff i like to shoot (basically people and street scenes) are no longer available -- it's funny, i live in a p beautiful area (like a very short walk from this http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/15272580.jpg, which is not my pic), but nature photography is sorta boring to me (even though l love nature) and the rhythm of my daily life no longer compels me to keep a camera handy

gbx, Sunday, 31 August 2014 16:39 (nine years ago) link

like i think i should go on a vacation (which i need anyway) to reignite my passions, so to speak

also i think something is wrong with my leica and i'm scurred to send it away to whoever that old guys is that fixes them

gbx, Sunday, 31 August 2014 16:40 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, nature stuff is very difficult to make interesting. Part of my problem is I'm struggling to see anything "fresh" or new in my surroundings at the moment. Also discovered I've got some fungus or something in one of my MF lenses, so that hardly helped my enthusiasm levels.

It doesn't help that I've not been doing a challenge or project to make sure I'm actually going out of my way to take photos.
