it worked out okay for VU, I thought, altho I would have preferred my original solo-careers-only poll

Voting for them all together and separating out the results turned out to be pretty brilliant.

I'm gonna keep my place in line for Stiff Records, but I may change the topic at some point. Not sure it would be much of a draw after Stax only got 20-something ballots.

In terms of stuff I listen to and can put together respectable ballots for, the first five out the gate are booming.

Man oh man still searching for some vestige of the top 2000 my local classic rock station did at the end of 1999. Not looking good yet tho

Quarterpayne McRapp (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 27 December 2013 10:30 (ten years ago) link

so this is happening after the end of the year polls?

― g simmel, Monday, December 23, 2013 9:51 AM (4 days ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

yeah...Classic Rock definitely won't get rolling until after the year-end poll is done in January, unless i decide to run a nominations/discussion thread for a bit before the official voting thread. didn't wanna overlap with that or the disco poll (plus I just ran two polls over the summer, so i'm not in a rush). don't care if the Roxy Music poll cuts in line ahead of me -- I feel like the big genre-spanning polls need longer windows for voting and everything else so it'll be a slow process.

some dude, Friday, 27 December 2013 12:54 (ten years ago) link

I'll do a Byrds and offshoots poll which includes Gene Clark, Gram Parsons, David Crosby, Roger McGuinn and the rest

kornrulez6969, Friday, 27 December 2013 13:41 (ten years ago) link

Actually, I'd like to do a "Covers" poll. All cover versions of previously recorded songs. That could be fun.

great idea. also i didn't want to mess with the numbers, as we have 'B' whenever necessary. Velvet Underground (plus) was the only thing that got moved under my watch.

and yes ILM Classic Rock Poll is going to be massive.

thanks Doctor Casino!

Giving up Classic Rock may prove my greatest regret as an ilxor, I have great feelings about that poll. But SD will def do a better job (my track record on these things is pretty iffy). Hopefully I can get it together by the time of the grand Billy Joel Poel.

intimately bellowing (staggerlee), Saturday, 28 December 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

Ha, thanks SD but I don't wanna be captain take-back. Would be decidedly un-rock, anyway!

Piano Man discussion does remind me that 'worst' classic rock would be a great, long ballot in and of itself.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 28 December 2013 21:13 (ten years ago) link

American Pie would win that.

good point, i should definitely have a top 5 "most bad and hated" subpoll or something.

Uh, I meant covers instead of Byrds. I can do Byrds sometime down the road, but would rather not do back to back polls.
