Painting the new condo??

Now, how do I shot buying interior paint? I know about the "sheen", but how to figure out how many gallons, should I overestimate? It is about 1400 sq ft, total, I calculate 4 gallons ceiling paint, 8 gallons eggshell, and 3 gallons semi-gloss for bathrooms and kitchen (we removed wallpaper).

You should be able to get a rough square footage estimate on the walls (1400 sq ft of floor space is not esp relevant) for each color you plan to use. The sales clerk should be able to use that to estimate the number of gallons you need for a first coat.

Second coats take a bit less paint than first coats, but not a lot less. Whether you need a second coat will depend on what color is underneath the color you paint. For example, an off white on an off white will usually cover well in one coat. It is hard to judge the coverage on a first coat until it is dry and you examine it in a good light.

I find it is cheaper to underestimate the paint a bit and allow for a second trip to buy whatever you need to finish up. Rollers are a lot cheaper than paint and unused paint is just a kind of toxic waste you need to figure out a good way to dispose of. I hope that helps.

Oh, yeah. Custom mixed colors will be unreturnable, but you may be able to return unused gallons of off-the-shelf colors (ask the sales clerk), so it is safer to overestimate on a color you can return.

as new carpet was installed, and it is a sort of pinkish beige. The bathrooms and kitchen will be some kind of semi-gloss white.
Wallpaper was up previously, so aside from a couple of places with pencil marks, it's pretty clean.
I have only recently learned that eggshell was not a color but a "sheen". O_o

Normally, it would have been smarter to paint first and install the new carpet afterward. Be vigilant about drop cloths and always move slowly when near open and spillable paint cans or roller pans. Just slowing down generally is a good strategy for avoiding mistakes. Check your soles before walking from a drop-clothed space to one with exposed floor or carpet.

I would recommend having easy to slip-on/off painter clothes and shoes that you leave in the painting area. That's how I did it last time. Oh and don't be like all limp-wristed just chillin forgetting your paintbrush or your roller is in your hand. Always know where that shit is and what it is or isn't touching.

Painting is done! Sometimes it is white, and sometimes rather pink. The carpet is pinkish beige so there is that.
