is this real? http://www.nme.com/news/chance-the-rapper/74797

ugh, i have plenty of time for chance & james blake but can't see their musical worlds (which are both so fully realized in their own right) mixing well.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 9 January 2014 20:17 (ten years ago) link

would watch the reality show though.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 9 January 2014 20:17 (ten years ago) link

continuing his steak of collaborating with the worst artists

Murgatroid, Thursday, 9 January 2014 20:25 (ten years ago) link

I thought the Life Round Here remix was jarring but I love both artists and I think that if Blake was writing with Chance instead of just plugging him into an existing song that could be interesting.

Deafening silence (DL), Thursday, 9 January 2014 21:39 (ten years ago) link

don't like the sound of James Bluntstep singing but i don't see why he can't do some beats for good Chance songs at least

some dude, Thursday, 9 January 2014 22:14 (ten years ago) link

i wouldn't make too much of this...

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 9 January 2014 22:43 (ten years ago) link

Now you tell me. I just bet my pension on a full-length collab coming out by the end of the year.

Really picked up on the Eminem influence on Chance live tho.

Yeah there's this one verse that sounds like a rewritten Em verse, I gotta remember to make a note next time I hear it

, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 08:42 (ten years ago) link

like "You Song" and "Tweakin'" better than this mixtape, unless I'm imagining things he toned down his vocal style for 'em

nova, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 08:58 (ten years ago) link

His vocal style is one of the best things about this album imo

, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 08:58 (ten years ago) link

This must be a demo. Would be thrilled if he really incorporated the band in the production of the next album.

All of the Lights had like 15 famous back-up singers and so does this.

Haha, of course!

I like Matt, who wrote that, but I'm not sure I really 'get' that piece & the connections its trying to make. Or the strawman of white academic criticism that it's apparently an anecdote to? whenever i read academic criticism of rap it tends to be from people of color, because academia is one place where people of color have managed to make more significant inroads of influence

i also have issues w/ Rachel Kaadzi Ghansah's pieces but that's neither here nor there

rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 14:34 (nine years ago) link

i like the point about 'good'. i think that's very good. something to do something with.

j., Tuesday, 2 September 2014 14:48 (nine years ago) link

I've been listening a lot to Acid Rap again recently, and I still can't quite believe how good it is. This album always feel exciting.
