Voted found out. A coach so tactically inflexible is useles. Taking his personality into account he has no role at all.

Bigsam: flotsam and jetsam @ whetsam? (darraghmac), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:15 (ten years ago) link

Ah, I've been led into voting 'found out'. Voting 'great coach' today is just too absurd.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 16 December 2013 11:15 (ten years ago) link

He was awful with the media in recent weeks. Undermined himself by responding to the tabloid barbs of Samuel and co.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:18 (ten years ago) link

The cheek he had in slagging the fans was the biggest misstep, spurs have been shit at home for his entire time there. Anything after that was just further demonstrating his lack of ability in that sphere

Bigsam: flotsam and jetsam @ whetsam? (darraghmac), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:22 (ten years ago) link

Voted great coach, but really mean ,good coach,. Don't really know what found out means. Sounds like bullshit to me.

Bigsam: flotsam and jetsam @ whetsam? (darraghmac), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:27 (ten years ago) link

TBF I doubt a manager of AVB's calibre would want to take on the Man United job.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:28 (ten years ago) link

Bullshit pervades everywhere, tbh, but nobody's paying me 60k pw to run this poll so imma allow it

Bigsam: flotsam and jetsam @ whetsam? (darraghmac), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:29 (ten years ago) link

do you mean you're going to allow it?

i think he's a good coach with terrible PR skills, possibly terrible people skills, not sure if the one is any use in conjunction with the other

wee knights of the round table (Noodle Vague), Monday, 16 December 2013 11:41 (ten years ago) link

i feel weirdly protective of him and i'm not sure why

Vince McMahon is trending on Twitter. A curveball for Spurs.

yeah i wanted to believe this too but (particularly wrt the defence) he was just stubbornly sending teams out to get pwned by 5s and 6s despite the stark and ample weight of evidence against it. reverted back to his suicidal bratty chelsea steez ultimately. if u really do value a high line then why would you ever do one with ebjt or dawson in?

with the midfield you just assume it was a communication breakdown with the players cos otherwise there's nothing to suggest he had any plan going there

only possible mitigation is that he hasnt ever been given the players he really wanted during his time in england - powerful line-leader, deep-lying string-puller - but still no excuse for not having the common sense to try and make the best of the not inconsiderable things he did have

r|t|c, Monday, 16 December 2013 11:59 (ten years ago) link

That is pretty OTM really, I don't have anything to add to that.

He will be successful somewhere in the future, just not in England.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 December 2013 12:02 (ten years ago) link

Like he was better in his first season when he showed evidence of having learned from his mistakes at Chelsea and was consciously transitioning from Redknapp's system to something else but this season he threw that pragmatism out of the window. Also yeah the Bale thing.

There isn't one player signed in the summer who I think is a bad player but signing everyone from outside the Premiership was a mistake - and possibly Baldini's rather than AVB. Of all the what-ifs, the failed Benteke and Moutinho signings are the biggest.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 December 2013 12:05 (ten years ago) link

they signed too many players in the end, it had the feel of signing people to prevent rivals from doing so.

Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Monday, 16 December 2013 12:07 (ten years ago) link

Dont feel in any way inclined against him but otm re it being almost petulant, the manner he was sending teams out knowing that we'd struggle in exactly the same way as last week, last month, last year. 'nothin to do with me guv' listless management

Bigsam: flotsam and jetsam @ whetsam? (darraghmac), Monday, 16 December 2013 12:09 (ten years ago) link

Ultimately I think what probably did for him was not getting his tactics wrong (plenty of managers have done that this season) but a sense that he was refusing to learn from his mistakes.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 December 2013 12:14 (ten years ago) link

sandro and eriksen injuries really fucked him too (even if sandro has been unable to stem the tide of recent fiascos)

Some background on Baldini-AVB. Wanted him at Roma. "Cost too much". Went to dinner together. Talked Shakespeare.

He'll win another title in his career, maybe in France or Germany. He's still ridiculously young for a manager and would really benefit from being #2 somewhere high up again (working at like Bayern, Juve or somewhere) or going somewhere with less at stake than the 3 p high profile gigs he's had so far for a while.

a hoy hoy, Monday, 16 December 2013 14:47 (ten years ago) link

Poll wd admittedly benefit ito subtlety (no benefit at all afaic but) with two more midrange options, but srsly ahh nothing he's shown since day 1 at spurs says to me that he has more than one trick, and once that's getting you beaten 3-0 at home vs sam allardyce you have to at least start looking up 'new formations for dummies'

Srsly hate to say it but chelsea fans mainly otm about the guy.

OTM

He's done too much much too youung

i'm sure he'll be quite fine at psg, get them a bit closer to the cl, maybe win it in a crap year

somewhere without falcaos and bales tho idk

You're saying the test is whether he can manage Stoke?

Huge match tomorrow. Zenit are away at Lokomotiv and one point ahead. If they don't lose you'd assume the title is theirs.

Sherwood: Spurs
Ramos: not Spurs
Redknapp: the Spursiest
Mourinho: not Spurs

Jol: actually HE'S the Spursiest

Realizing now on him being summoned that I actually had a dream about Jol last night. He was talking but I couldn't hear his voice, and couldn't remember it either, and it bothered me. He was fading away, slowly ;_;

ok now I am sad

imago, Tuesday, 2 February 2021 13:37 (three years ago) link

Im sure he has as nice a life and his personality has earned him, and a far nicer one than his talents as a manager have
