How many years deep is he now? Five or something? He's probably 27 or 28. Those are prime WR years.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 11 December 2013 21:36 (ten years ago) link

Ah, so it's his seventh season. Still, I'd argue that he's played better in his last three years than he did when he was younger.

hey everyone in this city is angry about washington dc football

shutting down rgiii is garbage imo, he should be playing

seriously, THIS GUY (daria-g), Thursday, 12 December 2013 02:11 (ten years ago) link

genuine lol @ djp

balls, Thursday, 12 December 2013 03:28 (ten years ago) link

I figure the whole shutdown thing is just Shanahan poisoning the milk a bit. He knows he is on the way out and doesn't want to hear any B.S. like last year if he gets hurt. Also if RGIII isn't playing, Shanahan really doesn't have to deal with him anymore and I think that is where he is at.

I'm for it if nothing else it's a cool chance for some pro wrestling style politics in the NFL. It would be absolutely hilarious if Washington plays Cousins and goes 3-0 to close the season.

If that were to happen, Shanahan should go into that final press conference and say "I told you so." then pull the mic off the podium and let it drop off the floor and walk out with his 'ipad and couple of notebooks' out of his office under his arm.

earlnash, Thursday, 12 December 2013 12:43 (ten years ago) link

i think if the http://images.chron.com/blogs/askacat/hatcat.JPG win three more games this season streams of fire will rain upon this earth and shanahan will ascend into the clouds in a shaft of pure healing light while we all writhe and burn

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 12 December 2013 12:57 (ten years ago) link

the way to make that happen, obviously, would be to name tim tebow his starting quarterback.

i play too fast (which is the sign of an amateur) (fact checking cuz), Thursday, 12 December 2013 13:57 (ten years ago) link

What is tebow up to these days

he is probably at least as good a qb as kirk cousins, they should move for him and finally the media might pay attention to this franchise.

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 12 December 2013 15:20 (ten years ago) link

"[Megatron's] pretty old, so I don't know how physical he'll be," Matt Elam said. "He's a big guy, but he's older."

I guess Elam doesnt have Red Zone. Then again, i guess he's too busy on Sundays to watch the NFL

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 12 December 2013 15:53 (ten years ago) link

All ive heard about the past two days, even on friggin Atlanta stations (somewhat forgivable cuz they are playing each other this week) is this tedious "saga". Even more than the Saban-Brown soap opera. Espn was wall to wall Redskin controversy last nite. Goddamn, who cares.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Thursday, 12 December 2013 18:42 (ten years ago) link

Not sure how "Redskin" snuck through there.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 12 December 2013 20:29 (ten years ago) link

Im hoping tonight is a good game. i havent seen much of the Chargers this year, i know Rivers has bounced back from a lousy '12

i was just given 50 yd line tix 17th row, screening an iln hoodie for tv

dig the lou reed (Hunt3r), Thursday, 12 December 2013 23:15 (ten years ago) link

denver secondary is weak, backers in disarray, line missing two starters. i think rivers could really prosper.

dig the lou reed (Hunt3r), Thursday, 12 December 2013 23:17 (ten years ago) link

I'm still favoring Denver, but I selected lower points in pick'em than I would under normal circumstances.

that was really first rate stuff by the bolts. delighted for keenan allen who just announced himself to the world, and i'm pretty sure they have the order in to the engravers for OROY already. feels like it was a coming out of sorts for ryan mathews too. obv offense did an amazing executing a time-hogging gameplan but i had no idea that san diego had any kind of defense this year, especially not one that kind of killed the game against the best offense on football in that 2nd quarter in particular.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 13 December 2013 13:06 (ten years ago) link

that was the best i've ever seen mathews play by far

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 December 2013 14:33 (ten years ago) link

Chargers D supremely impressive. Good game, im also happy with the result. This Keenan Allen dude came to play.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 13 December 2013 15:17 (ten years ago) link

it's also nice that phil rivers is a good qb again, i kinda hate him but the nfl is better when he's playing well

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:39 (ten years ago) link

yeah otm. his apparent abrupt decline was sad.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 13 December 2013 15:45 (ten years ago) link

He's utterly hilarious. I get a huge kick out of watching that guy. Not sure I actually like him, but I like watching him, if that makes any sense.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:07 (ten years ago) link

i think that's a good description of my feelings too

dig the lou reed (Hunt3r), Friday, 13 December 2013 18:38 (ten years ago) link

how you feeling about the broncos dude? creaking a bit or maybe just foot off the gas as the reg season winds down? i guarantee that NE loses to either miami or bmore - denver can't lose in houston or oakland right? so anyone in the pretty mediocre afc playoff field worry you at home?

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 13 December 2013 18:47 (ten years ago) link

cincy afc champs

j/k i dunno. broncos are def v.v. creaky imo. i know the story with the d, but i was surprised by what i saw on offense last night. looked tired.

I just want to remind everyone, this same Matt Flynn that the Raiders let go for whoever they got playing QB this week.

I guess the system must be part of it and definitely Green Bay always has just a great receiver corps, but c'mon this guy Flynn has been pretty good the past couple weeks.

I know everyone's going to talk nonstop about the Cowboys collapse (and rightfully so), but Packers offense was amazing that 2nd half. They seemed to have so much trouble scoring even one touchdown without Rodgers much less five in a half!!

frogbs, Monday, 16 December 2013 02:14 (ten years ago) link

The story is going to be how Romo folded up, but that Cowboy defense is just laughingly bad.

RUN THE FREAKIN' BALL, BURN SOME CLOCK. Who do you think you are Andy Reid or Mike Martz?

earlnash, Monday, 16 December 2013 02:29 (ten years ago) link

Monte Kiffin (born February 29, 1940) is the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. He used to be widely considered to be one of the preeminent defensive coordinators in modern football prior to his recent stint with the Dallas Cowboys

johnny crunch, Monday, 16 December 2013 02:37 (ten years ago) link

from the 'fantasy' section of matt flynn's espn page:

Flynn was reasonably productive against Atlanta on Sunday, throwing for 258 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 32 attempts, so he might have QB2 utility against a Dallas defense that has no talent, coaching or heart.

It was pretty sly, but I think Gruden got kind of a dig in on Kiffin a couple weeks ago with the Cowboys. He said, unless you are getting a good pass rush, running that Tampa 2 just doesn't work anymore as so many of the passing routes always have someone going underneath to go where there is a hole. Pretty much every team is running some plays that are spread inspired.

Dallas has a lot of injuries and I think DeMarcus Ware's injuries or age really hurt them, as that guy was a one man pass rush for the past 8 seasons or so.
