The other day I started a new online character. I was doing one of the first missions, and something happened I haven't experienced in a long time ... I ran out of ammo! I only had a basic pistol and a little bit of ammo at that point. I had two guys left to murder so ran in and punched one guy to death, stole his gun, and shot the other guy. It was kind of exhilarating.

online is wintery weather only today. very impressive though

Someone gave me $180M. I'll tell ya, it's made the game more enjoyable.

The snow is amazing. Felt like Christmas was finally here when I saw it.

pplains, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 15:07 (ten years ago) link

yeah when I loaded it up I was treated to snow, Baker Street on the radio, and someone gave me £500 mill and then someone else gave me more. wtf.

Seriously, now that I don't have to worry about money -

• I traded in for an apartment in the same building just so I could have a different view.

• Loaded up every car with max armor, turbo, bulletproof tires.

• Didn't think I needed the extra magazine on the MG since I use the Carbine more, but hey, YOLO.

• Speaking of YOLO, I don't worry so much about getting killed. Came down Mt. Chilliad on foot today, dying three or four times in gnarly falls. Ain't no thing anymore.

• Somebody shoot me or blow up my car? Hope you feel better, little man with a gun in his hand. I just respawn and either go after the guy, put a $9K bounty on his head or shrug it off and go home.

The one thing I did with all the money that I thought I'd have fun doing but was actually saddening was grabbing a Simeon car off the map, respraying it and loading it up with explosives, then parking it right back where I found it. When a few minutes later, I saw the little black caption say I killed so-and-so... it was rather anti-climatic and made me feel a little like a dick.

Now - loading up the Bigfoot 4x4 truck with an explosive, parking it in the LCS lot (not in front of the door or anything) and watching a guy get mad because it was locked (oops, forgot to change that in the menu), spray it with bullets, then try to get in it again just to have it explode -- that was high comedy.

(oi poly thx for invite, but sometimes this game and my internet don't get along; accepting borked my router...)

usually my invites are just me clicking Auto Invite and Play in the lobby so no worries.

Last night I used the Race Creator Beta to make my own race. Very fun.

There's a family row raging at the minute as my sister-in-law has bought her 11 year old son this for Christmas.

― DavidM, Monday, December 9, 2013 3:25 PM (2 weeks ago)

She exchanged it for Black Flag, in the end. Which is a lot more fun, imo.

i think i figured out my router problem

the rally-style races are so frustrating and ultimately depressing but i think i love them? i think i like yelling at people. esp if they aren't on mic.

oh and somebody put some absurdly, glitchy-high bounty on me (like a long string of digits), and somebody else promptly killed me. i found that guy, and killed him. a minute later he gifted me a billion dollars. one billion.

napgenius (goole), Monday, 30 December 2013 05:59 (ten years ago) link

oh great, i read now that dumping huge money on ppl is some kind of griefing technique, getting more and more people caught up in cheater lobbies or outright banned, or something? but presumably whenever R* does some kind of 'financial correction' to fix all the rampant money glitching (which i've heard is coming), people on the receiving end of some fucko's charity won't suffer any consequences.

but it's not like i haven't bought a sweet pad and ten tricked out cars, more than the $500k bonus for being around during that first fucked up week, i think...

napgenius (goole), Thursday, 2 January 2014 22:26 (ten years ago) link

anyway, i made a sweet off-road track around fort zancudo, is anybody interested? i can figure out how to publicize it if so.

currently in a race lobby with a dude who's level 949

napgenius (goole), Monday, 6 January 2014 23:04 (ten years ago) link

Haven't gone back online since getting stuck in a game where several dudes were indestructible and just wandering around the world killing other players. It kind of sucks when that happens.

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 07:30 (ten years ago) link

I just start a new race or find a new session.

I noticed in the Ammunation store that I could change the color of the Carbine if I killed a certain number of other players. Seems like I've already killed 100, but hey, now I've got a new goal to ~*shoot*~ for. I usually don't go around with guns blazing, but hey, maybe if there's already a firefight happening, I can pull the trigger a few times and work my way up to the Army tint.

So I come back to the lobby after a race and see a cluster of dots around the midtown LCS. Yeah, you don't say. I start driving over there, and I can hear the sirens from more than a block away. I get out just as a police car rams into my car, making me feel like Bugs Bunny exiting the elevator a split second before it crashes. Turns out it's another player in the cop car, so rat-a-tat-tat.

I run toward the plaza where the other dots are and that's when I see like six tanks rolling around, swinging their cannons. Blam, I go up in the air. Respawn and blam, across the pavement. Respawn, and I'm around the corner. What's that one dot doing that's not moving around? Blam, I'll never know.

So I exit the session and land in another one. Just me and this other guy. I help him out in a gangfight and he gives me a ride to Simeon's where I somehow get money for the car I was a passenger in. I give the money back to the player and he in turn gives me the entire total because hey – we're all billionaires in this game now, who needs $4700?

To be honest, getting into a losing firefight with six tanks was more fun.

pplains, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 14:51 (ten years ago) link

but hey, i really don't talk like that.

pplains, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 14:51 (ten years ago) link

I give the money back to the player

lol i couldn't figure out how to do this. i was in a session that dwindled down to just me an another dude at like level 4. we did this one mission over a couple times (he died a bit) and when it was done he texted me 'thx 4 the help'. i wanted to give him, like, a hundred million dollars or something. but i couldn't figure it out.

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 15:21 (ten years ago) link

like, i just figured out there's a quick menu if you hold down select

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 15:24 (ten years ago) link

It used to work all the time, but since the hacking, much of it has been disabled. I was surprised to see it functioning after that "mission".

pplains, Tuesday, 7 January 2014 15:26 (ten years ago) link

So many things in that menu – nearest landmarks, player action, inventory, passive mode. Hell, now that I'm rich, I've been blowing my brains apart in the middle of every crowded intersection I find myself in.

meanwhile in single player...

Came across about 6 stunt jumps all within spitting distance of each other.

doing stunt jumps with Franklins special ability and driving a supercar can be INSANE!

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:05 (ten years ago) link

i'm going through single player quite slowly cause i don't have much time to play.

i bought the airfield right off the bat. was that dumb?

do i need to think about spreading my playing time around between the three characters in order to level them up?

i hate the dog, and the app. i never want to think about them again.

the mission that starts with the sniper rifle and ends with trevor flying the plane is crazy fun. i love all trevor's countryside missions.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:41 (ten years ago) link

i bought the airfield right off the bat. was that dumb?

i think of all the properties it's one of the ones that makes its money back the fastest (if you put in the work) so no

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

ok good! i like flying, so it seemed like a good idea. landing is a bitch, though. for some reason my landing gear has a mind of its own, just folds up by itself, unfolds by itself, not sure what the deal is there.

do the drug drops get progressively harder? first one was easy, second one less so.

i was tempted to buy the junkyard as michael, but wasn't sure exactly how it would bring in money. $150 per smashed car? does that mean i have to go around smashing cars on purpose? seems like small potatoes anyway.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:51 (ten years ago) link

I've managed to safely avoid the dog through pretty much all the game.

I think I should have bought the golf course when i came into big money first, then I would have been able to use the weekly earnings I think to buy everywhere else. As it is, looks like that golf course is going to stay unpurchased for a while :(

I wouldn't worry about levelling up, I turned a blind eye and managed to get along just fine.

pimping out the rides is my current fetish. One of the pick up trucks you can do crazy chassis changes with.

I don't seem to get anything from that scrapyard, do the cars have to be completely destroyed. and my michael himself?

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:52 (ten years ago) link

'by' michael. typing in the dark sorry

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:53 (ten years ago) link

i bought a different apartment online, one closer to an LS customs. i love the racing, and like to keep my cars up to date.

turns out, it's the same apartment.

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:53 (ten years ago) link

also the airfield missions are great fun xxxxp

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:54 (ten years ago) link

apparently the junkyard gives its owner $150 bucks whenever any character destroys any vehicle. interesting but not really worth the work

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:54 (ten years ago) link

would it surprise you to learn someone has done the math

http://www.ign.com/wikis/gta-5/Properties_You_Can_Buy

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 16:58 (ten years ago) link

xp

yeah seems a bit lame, because if you destroy vehicles you'll inevitably attract the fuzz so that'll cost you £5000 in hospital fees. So to make it worthwhile you'd have to destroy well over 30 vehicles before you face death.

it is my ambition to do the prank where you load the simeon car up with sticky bombs and leave it for someone else to take, as nv described above.

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:08 (ten years ago) link

@aconley: I realy enjoyed it at the beginning, got a nice house, all expensive cars but it takes away the challange to give it all and take the bounties that we can get and all the missions we do to get it.now i am a rich idiot sitting all the time in my car cruising around LS. i want my i atleast would like to keep like 1 million because there are people blowing up my stuff and for some reason they don't need to charge for it.

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:12 (ten years ago) link

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:12 (ten years ago) link

i'd pay people $1mil each to stay in a lobby to do some of the races & missions. some of these i've never seen done. idgi.

has anyone ever done a parachute jump.

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:18 (ten years ago) link

i've done tonnes! there are people who are deep into them, if i've ever done one i've got to do a bunch in a go. if we're ever on gta at the same time gooole hit me up and we can jump.

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:22 (ten years ago) link

right on :)

i feel like i must be wired up differently than the average player. i like having something to do, and running around the freeroam map capping whoever comes around seems super dull to me. people must want those pink guns huh.

napgenius (goole), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:24 (ten years ago) link

i haven't modified any of the cars yet. they tell you that if you park a car in your "garage" you'll get to keep it forever. so i kept parking cars in my characters' garages. at their homes. you know, michael's garage. franklin's garage. they'd just disappear. finally i realized they were talking about this other garage across town. AAARGH.

so now i have a few pretty fast cars saved in there, a couple of porsche types cars.

off topic, i LOVE the port. it feels so real.

another little note in my head, you can totally tell that british people wrote the script. there are these little britishisms that creep in, stuff like "fuck all"; it's weird to me that the voice actors didn't speak up about that stuff.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 17:25 (ten years ago) link

Part of GTA's charm has always been this cartoon USA with this Britishes glow shining through it from behind the curtain.... Kinda like ILX, actually.

it is my ambition to do the prank where you load the simeon car up with sticky bombs and leave it for someone else to take, as nv described above.

You don't even have to use the stickies. Take it into a mod shop and put the explosives on in there. That way you won't have to manually fire the bomb to go off and who ever gets in won't ever see it coming.

These forum people... there's just this world of panicky people who have no business playing video games. Crying because the game's been ruined with all the money. You still have to rank up! I'm so tired of getting shot by people with bigger weapons than me, there's my motivation to get past the 60s. Better missions that open up. The money was always weird anyway. $620 for a t-shirt?

I get tripped out by all of these role-players. "Join my crew, we all wear police outfits and ride around on CHiPs motorcycles!" Or the weird thread I read about this crew that basically puts on "Our Town" every Thursday night. One crewmember on a recruiting thread once described what a newcomer would go through in his first session. "We'll have a ranked member meet you somewhere in Los Santos, fill you in on some the rules and then let you try to qualify for a few crew activities...." What the shit? No, tanks in the game are not the problem here.

I would like to find some crews since no one does missions or races anymore. I've still yet to see an ILG PS3 member live online. I put up a new emblem for us, but couldn't get it loaded into the game.
