christ it just looks like someone forgot to finish baking the cake
That's what molten cake is supposed to look like! The center is whipped up ganache or whatever, and it remains gooey.

hold on i thought we were discussing the general popular invocation of cake denoting a slab of anodyne sponge with inch of colourful icing, grisly forced childishness exacerbating the grey slow death of office lyfe

I like homemade sheet cake (we call them tray bakes here in the UK) because it seems that people are more likely to be experimental with them, as opposed to regular cakes where generally people don't want to move outside the Victoria/chocolate/coffee & walnut area.

instead of supporting the regime of office cakes we should aim to tear down the office structure and rebuild it from nothing, with cooler cubicles and shit i guess

I love coffee cake. They used to have coffee cake at the 24 hour Embers in Midway in St. Paul before it closed. Used to always go there after playing or seeing a show at the Turf Club. Great steak & eggs, or at least great to a drunk 20 something at 2:30 in the morning. One time I was so drunk I didn't realize the cap was off my A1 sauce and I shook the bottle up and sprayed my friends and the booth in back of me.

once had red velvet sheet cake with normal (non-cream cheese) vanilla frosting and it was disgusting and hellish

they got a nice chew to them
The thing with the Chinatown bakery fruit cake is the frosting is light and airy and also minimally sweetened. The fruit comes from a can usually. I guess it's alright

my parents always collab'd on a birthday cake for me, chocolate with vanilla buttercream frosting. best cake ever. most cakes get the icing all wrong, whipped cream frosting is savagery imo. cream cheese frosting comes closest to the best, probably. Right consistency and sweetness.

yeah, but especially on red velvet. imo "cream cheese frosting" is an essential element to red velvet and it ceases to be a real red velvet cake without it
