Ok it's goddamn free for ps+ let's hear some reports here people.

The opening cinematic is one of the weirdest, most unsettling things I've ever seen.

The game tutorial appears to make no sense.

I'm pretty much convinced that the POV character is mentally-unstable after 3 minutes of monologue.

Haven't been playing much due to babies + mother-in-law + Borderlands prequel but this appears to be an entirely insane game on first glance.

a friend got ps+ strictly to get this for free which, there are definitely worse choices

I'm trying to remember why I stopped playing this a while back. I think it was the driving, because the driving is the worst driving in any game ever.

the first driving bit is a jump-off point for a lot of people who somehow slug it through the first terrible hour. it's genuinely really bad.

I made it to the part where you first get the car. Was considering giving up on it because it hasn't been weird/funny/interesting enough to justify the tedious gameplay up to that point, but the thread has convinced me to keep at it. Unfortunately won't be around my PS3 for the next two weeks though :/.

Remember to talk to everyone all the time. Including when you are alone in the car, makes the driving not really matter so much.

i just stayed up until 530am to beat this game for the first time

(after doing the same thing last night too, and another couple of nights during my time off for the holidays)

i'm so disappointed with myself for waiting this long. i was really expected a lot of "bad"ness, but really it's just a lot of "weird"ness -- maybe playing the director's cut is what made it less bad? (as i understand, some of the QTE stuff is less dumb, but on the other hand they add some wholly useless & kind of damaging story wraparound).

but anyway, WOW WOW WOW, yeah. this game is absolutely one of the most interesting games of the 360/ps3 generation. story was weirdly super affecting. obv the twin peaks reference is VITAL to this. it is kind of astounding that someone got to make a game that was pitched to investors as a game version of twin peaks (thru a japanese lens).

maybe the best game comparison i can think of is earthbound. weird america, but as seen by a japanese gamemaker, full of weirdness, marketed as badness but so so so good.

oh! and metal gear solid. reminds me a lot of that. this is a really really special game.

and i jsut noticed that D4 is free to xbox gold subscribers, and my roommate just got an xbox one, and is out of town until thursday, and is a gold member, and ohhhhyeeeeeaaaahhh i'll be playing that too

yeah, i think the greatness of this game did get buried in the so bad its good vibe like i said upthread. there are some really shocking and startlingly emotional moments, and they are so interesting within this alien landscape of oddness rather than badness - def a game where i suspect many reviewers just didnt give it time to turn into what it really is and just got hung up on the gameplay, to which i say hey man, people please choose to play og resident evil games, this is a hell of a lot better than that.

theres at least one murder scene (no spoilers) that rivals anything "dark" ive ever seen in videogaming, and when it drops into a game with the sinners sandwich and one sided conversations between the protagonist and himself its like a slap in the face.

last day free on ps+ i think, so get to it people

if it's the one i am thinking of... yeah. and also... fuck. now that i am thinking about it again i am like whoaaaaaaaaaa. there are some serious "play this a second time and notice things" moments popping out at me.

also mad props for making the game's most tragic character, like, not an utter embarrassing farce and really kinda pitiable in a real way (altho it gets DANGEROUSLY close to crossing that line)

damn man and the blindfold scenes. jjjusten thank you so much for beating the drum for this game as long as you did, it really pushed me to finally play it and i am so glad i did.

All right, maybe I'll get back onboard and push through the awful, awful driving when I'm done being addicted to GTA Online.

thing i wish someone had told me: once you cna start doing sidequests, complete quests 004 and 005 as soon as possible. the reward for 005 is fast travel.

he does a good job of letting the game's bizarreness speak for itself while still adding value with commentary (i lost it when he went around the grocery store and started zooming in and reading off all the mangled product names). i'm pretty glad that i can experience the game this way since it doesn't look like the actual gameplay is rewarding, just the writing & 'acting'

Yeah, I lost my saved game when my old PS3 crashed and the thought of replaying the early portions of the game kinda keep me from picking it up again.

that's what some of us hoped as well, and someone brought it to swery's attention, and he said "oh! sorry, i'll get right on that", and released a patch that fixed damn near nothing, and then that was brought to swery's attention as well, and swery's response was to talk about his "creative freedom" and make a couple more tweets that were more blunt that he then deleted

don't get your hopes up.

if it gets a pc release after the 6 months of switch exclusivity are up then maybe it'll run better there, though the first game actually runs worse on pc than on 360 lol

either way i will be playing this on switch handheld mode for the proper experience

I literally forgot this game came out until I watched sleepy hollow today and saw that weird tree and was like "oh damn deadly premonition, did that come out?" and then I bought it and now I'm playing it that's the whole story

i'm two scenes in and he's talked at least a couple of lines about... 8 different movies or so? i wish i was keeping a list

yeah i totally didn't clarify that. maybe i should've played the first one thru again first though, because i cannot remember the ending at all? and iirc it got very convoluted

these are both on sale for switch now, which seems rare?

by which i mean they are both discounted. i don't remember a price drop on DP2 since i put on my wishlist a year or two ago.

should i play either of them? should i start with 1 or jump to 2?
