Okay, I understand that you need to reset your Facebook code. Is this correct? I must inform you before going forward that blasphemy is strictly prohibited within our customer service system.

I'm currently hacked into your computer and am working on resetting your Facebook code and all other internet passwords. While we wait for the changes to solidify, can I interest you in a subscription to Facebook Assistance Magazine? It will keep you updated on all news and view relating to the Facebook technical assistance staff.

Okay, so if I understand you correctly, you also need to find your mobile phone. We've used our GPS system to track it and it appears to be under a desk in the northmost conference room of the Naftogaz Ukrainy building in Kiev, Ukraine. Will you be able to retrieve the phone yourself or would you like it sent to you?

Gumming The Fun Tunnel (Old Lunch), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

nooo only my facebook code my facebook login id is my previous phone no

sahiba, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:01 (ten years ago) link

Okay, thank you for that information. If I understand you correctly, you're trying to retrieve your previous phone number. Is this correct? We've contacted your previous phone service provider and requested a copy of your telephone history. This may take a few minutes. While we wait, would you mind letting us know about that subscription to Facebook Assistance Magazine? We would be happy to send you your first issue today.

Okay, thanks. We've reset your current phone number to your Facebook confirmation code. From this point on, you will only be able to make local phone calls within the Republic of Belarus. Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Sahiba, please let us know as soon as possible whether your problem has been solved so we can close your help ticket. Thank you.

Okay, if I understand you correctly, you would like to have your reset code sent to you. We have mailed a copy of your reset code to your work address and your home address. For the moment, we will need you to create a 492-digit protection code which you will enter alongside your reset code when you receive it. Try to think of a 492-digit code that you will remember easily, as the protection code will only be sent to you once. Please enter your 492-digit protection code now.

I'm sorry, Sahiba, but your allotted help ticket time has lapsed and your Facebook account has been deleted. We recommend that you try using another social media site, such as Friendster or SixDegrees. Thank you for your understanding.

I wish we could have helped Sahiba. I don't think most Facebook users realize how difficult it is to retrieve a lost password, particularly during a holiday week when many of our representatives can't commit to the full 5-day password retrieval process.

ajordan, Monday, 16 December 2013 02:44 (ten years ago) link

no problem. we got you.

anky, Monday, 16 December 2013 03:52 (ten years ago) link

should i give you the email address that is on my facebook?

ajordan, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 01:32 (ten years ago) link

We don't need the email address, but we do need your Facebook Gold Code. This is detailed further in the Facebook Terms & Conditions, but the FGC is basically just your email address converted to a number (a = 1, b = 2, c = 3, and so on; @ = 27 and . = 28) and divided by the numerical value of your birthday (ex.: September 1, 1992 would be 09011992). The quotient is then reversed (ex.: 1345245422345 will become 5432245425431) and each number is reconverted to its respective letter value. Please post your FGC here once you have it and we will proceed to the next step of the password recovery process. Thank you.

surina, Thursday, 19 December 2013 10:21 (ten years ago) link

ajordan and surina: I can provide you with a second, less conventional method of recovering your lost password if you're having trouble with the directions above.

Step 1: Do a Google search for "(your full name) is". For example, if your first name is Charlene Tilton, you would search for "Charlene Tilton is". Write down the first ten results of what you are and provide us with those results (ex. for "Charlene Tilton is a raging alcoholic" you would send us "raging alcoholic"). Believe it or not, a Facebook algorithm keeps track of these Google results in real time based on the name you provided on the site.

Step 2: Once we have the list of Google results, we will enter them into what's known as the Facebook Backdoor. This is a little-known second entrance into Facebook. Facebook isn't generally too keen on users entering via this second portal, but we know how to coax the servers into allowing passage and it's a fairly painless process once you're in.

Step 3: We will provide you with a link where you can enter your credit card information for the modest password recovery fee.

Please let us know when you've completed these steps so that we can proceed.

What is a modest password recovery fee?

surina, Thursday, 19 December 2013 12:50 (ten years ago) link

It's a small fee for the service that we provide. It can be waived under certain circumstances (financial hardship, if you're a veteran, if you choose not to pay, etc.).

The He-Man-O-Centric Worlds of She-Ra (Old Lunch), Thursday, 19 December 2013 13:01 (ten years ago) link

lol. I know. I wanted to know how much lol.

Google search results:

a person borned

surina, Thursday, 19 December 2013 13:09 (ten years ago) link

Facebook prefers ten Google results, but let's see if I can get five in through the Backdoor.

The He-Man-O-Centric Worlds of She-Ra (Old Lunch), Thursday, 19 December 2013 13:16 (ten years ago) link

Sorry, that didn't work. Let's try another trick I'm aware of. If you've used a cellphone or other mobile device to connect to Facebook in the past, you can dial the number '5' 79 times (by which I mean: dial '5', hang up, then repeat 78 more times). Facebook Mobile is set up to recognize this 'distress call' (for want of a better term), and you should receive an automated call with your new password. Do not hang up until the end of the message or Facebook will automatically restore your phone to its factory settings and delete all contacts.

Throat Loaf (Old Lunch), Thursday, 19 December 2013 14:27 (ten years ago) link

nope. didn't work. live in south africa.

surina, Thursday, 19 December 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

Ah, I wish I'd known that before. There is a different recovery process for South African users. If you have voice recognition software on your mobile device, simply open your Facebook Mobile app and click 'search'. Then using your voice recognition software, clearly speak the following into your handset: "(your full name) ALPHA CHARLIE BRAVO TANGO WHISKEY WHISKEY DELTA 4077 (ISBN number from any book about the history of the Boer Revolt that you might have lying around)". From past experience with South African users, this technique should work and you should receive an email with a new password shortly.

am0n, Thursday, 19 December 2013 16:12 (ten years ago) link

i do not understand i gave you what you asked for and now i have to do something else. you never told me what my password was.

ajordan, Friday, 20 December 2013 11:31 (ten years ago) link

Unfortunately, we're unable to tell you what your password is. All we can do is help you to recover it.

If the previous methods didn't work for you, there are plenty of other methods we can try. One of the more straightforward methods is to take advantage of Facebook's patented facial recognition software. If you would like to try that route, please post a photo of yourself (facing the camera only; no profile shots, please) holding a sign with the following code written on it: !55ANAMA1. Once you've posted the picture in our help forum, we should be able to upload the photo to the Facebook servers and start the facial recognition password retrieval process.

how do you post a picture

ajordan, Monday, 23 December 2013 03:50 (ten years ago) link

If you are unable to post a picture, please type a 213-digit backup security code. Your backup security code can be a mixture of letters and numbers, but please make sure that they are 213 characters you will remember easily.
