doesn't seem like much of a hit to me, but i guess it is hard to judge when you change the station every time it's on the radio. it's selling more on the level of "take back the night" than "suit and tie" or "mirrors" tho.

The fact that he's touring next summer makes me fearful for how many singles he's going to wring out of the damp rag that is 2 Of 2

some dude, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:42 (ten years ago) link

well so far he's 0/2 on even making the top 20 with one

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:43 (ten years ago) link

maybe that video of him nonchalantly being dragged through the desert at dusk will change everything

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:43 (ten years ago) link

that seven minute video

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:43 (ten years ago) link

yeah this guy is touring for infinity isn't he

le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 22 November 2013 19:47 (ten years ago) link

that last vmas where they kissed his ass for 15-30m is looking less like a "still got it!" and more like a "congratulations for having it for so long" esp when off that GQ it sounds like he's more "screw you guys i'm going home" and less "Well i guess i should meet this benny blanco guy about a comeback"

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:50 (ten years ago) link

"if you don't wanna hear me whinny over my friend hiccuping for seven minutes then i guess we're done here"

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:51 (ten years ago) link

so JT went from Like A Prayer to MDMA in two albums.

I still haven't actually played 2 of 2 lol

Funny how in just one year the conversation turned from "Justin Timberlake needs to return to music" to the last 10 or so posts here

Evan R, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:03 (ten years ago) link

it was just too soon for "yet more futuresex/lovesounds 3 of 1"

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:04 (ten years ago) link

he's already said interviews that he gets more out of making people laugh than rocking the crowd so i guess there's nothing driving him to get out of neutral, either to sell out or go crazy musically

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:06 (ten years ago) link

in interviews, i mean

da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:07 (ten years ago) link

I guess the best way to make people laugh is to get pissy with critics?

one month passes...

In retrospect I like Suit and Tie much more than either Get Lucky or Blurred Lines.

In retrospect, I was right about "Take Back the Night," and the rest of you all are crazy.

Alfre, Lord Woodard (Eric H.), Monday, 6 January 2014 16:49 (ten years ago) link

TBTN is pretty good - it sounds almost like it could be a lesser single from Off The Wall.

It always makes me think of campus Take Back the Night rallies though.

no i still think the general consensus itt re: take back the night was pretty spot-on. i mean at least it's better than tko but...

finally just listened to the second releases

Not A Bad Thing is nice! And the opener, the rest is pretty junky. NO idea why any of those songs are longer than 3 minutes.

Spottie, Monday, 24 February 2014 06:22 (ten years ago) link

I gave "True Blood" more than one or two listens around Halloween.

Eric H., Monday, 24 February 2014 11:49 (ten years ago) link

"Not A Bad Thing" is a decent choice for the next single, sounded good on Fallon the other night. Pretty impossible to rehabilitate the album's rep after the first two singles, though.

Heard "Pusher Love Girl" this morning, still great, only song from these records I care about ever hearing again.

MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Monday, 24 February 2014 14:18 (ten years ago) link

If only it had been released with a continuous mix bonus disc.

Eric H., Monday, 24 February 2014 14:19 (ten years ago) link

still think 20/20 2 was the worst pop album i went about hearing last year

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 February 2014 14:56 (ten years ago) link

The last time I heard the first album was the weekend I watched Blue Jasmine. Good times.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 February 2014 14:57 (ten years ago) link

I think that may be true for me, altho technically I heard it this year. xp

Spottie, Monday, 24 February 2014 14:58 (ten years ago) link

the new single gives off horrific "this is almost destined to be No. 1" vibes

katherine, Monday, 24 February 2014 15:06 (ten years ago) link

This time 'round I wouldn't mind if it went #1. He's soppier than he pretends and is decent at it.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:07 (ten years ago) link

The recent albums gave off such a bad whiff of stink that despite loving his first two records I've listened to 20/20 all the way through maybe once and the second one never. And it really irks me that the only two JT songs I hear on the radio with any regularity is "What Goes Around ..." and "Mirror." It's almost as if they're afraid to play "Cry Me A River" or "Like I Love You" for fear that people would rather hear them.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 February 2014 15:11 (ten years ago) link

"TKO" is without a doubt his worst ever single right? i mean, even worse than the one that literally got turned into a mcdonalds jingle

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:12 (ten years ago) link

"not a bad thing" sounded good on fallon

le goon (J0rdan S.), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:13 (ten years ago) link

"I'm Lovin' It" was great idc idc

MISTERSNRUB (some dude), Monday, 24 February 2014 15:14 (ten years ago) link

"Mirrors" might not be his worst single, but it's his worst HIT single, at any rate.

love "not a bad thing" on the radio, song has a total summer jam feel

Otm

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 03:12 (ten years ago) link

Oh yeah -- his best single since 2008

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 April 2014 03:21 (ten years ago) link

The single version, of course: the album version is a monstrosity.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 April 2014 03:21 (ten years ago) link

mehhhhhhhh

steendriver dysphoria hoos (The Reverend), Sunday, 13 April 2014 04:29 (ten years ago) link

I feel like the most damning thing about Part 2 is that none of the singles have been as good as "Suit & Tie" or "Mirrors"

steendriver dysphoria hoos (The Reverend), Sunday, 13 April 2014 04:29 (ten years ago) link

oh man nabt towers over mirrors and is on par w suit and tie. but the rest of that album is no no no

IKEA metaballs (Spottie), Sunday, 13 April 2014 04:32 (ten years ago) link

and I'm not even a mirrors detractor

lol i like "mirrors" a lot and tolerate "suit and tie", but haven't these songs been widely panned?

surfbort memes get played out, totally (k3vin k.), Sunday, 13 April 2014 12:50 (ten years ago) link

I think that's rev's point

Tim F, Sunday, 13 April 2014 12:57 (ten years ago) link

Looks like it'll be his first American top ten in almost a year.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 April 2014 13:05 (ten years ago) link

Not A Bad Thing sounds like the second single (after a Max Martin jam) on an *NSYNC reunion album named All Grown Up. So yeah it's the best single he's had in a while.

da croupier, Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:12 (ten years ago) link

yeah it really is the mildest thing he's made since N Sync, isn't it. it came as a relief after "TKO," but the more i hear it, the less i like it. the staged viral campaign w/ the couple getting engaged while the song is playing is so so lame, too.

some dude, Sunday, 13 April 2014 14:55 (ten years ago) link

don't know how I feel about the chorus' false humility either; coming from a dude with Justin's wealth he sings it like a threat.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 13 April 2014 15:01 (ten years ago) link

So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me
Cause you might fuck around and find your dreams come true with me
Spend all your time and your money just to find out that my love was free
So don't act like it's a bad thing to fall in love with me, me

i looked up the chorus cuz I find the opening "with me/with me" rhyme really insipid and grating, and it turns out he threw a "fuck" in there too that i was unaware of.

between this and jessica biel producing a TV pilot about a bachelor living the high life in NYC who has a sudden change of heart after babysitting his nephew. He hires an aspiring actress to play his wife, and things get complicated when he finds himself falling for her those two are painting a pretty horrifying picture.
