I'm A Loner, Dottie, A Rebel
-- Jimmy Mod's Champion Erotic Fantasy Team 2006 (fuckyouandyouremai...), September 25th, 2006.

Would've been my next choice. And Emily B. OTM about its prescience.

Well, since emo kids can't count, here's a corrected list with the honorable mentions. However I have a sneaking suspicion that some of these songs do, in fact, suck.

50. Rainer Maria - "Ears Ring"
49. Embrace - "Dance of Days"
48. Sunny Day Real Estate - "Seven"
47. Hot Water Music - "Just Don't Say You Lost It"
46. Mineral - "Parking Lot"
45. Sunny Day Real Estate - "In Circles"
44. Jawbreaker - "Do You Still Hate Me?"
43. Jets to Brazil - "You're Having the Time of My Life"
42. Rites of Spring - "Drink Deep"
41. Fugazi - "Margin Walker"
40. Moss Icon - "What They Lack"
39. Jets To Brazil - "Morning New Disease"
38. Walt Mink - "Brave Beyond The Cause"
37. Pop Unknown - "This Guy's Ready For Bed"
36. The Promise Ring - "Happiness Is All The Rage"
35. Embrace - "Money"
34. Team Dresch - "Fagetarian & Dyke"
33. Sunny Day Real Estate - "Guitar and Videogames"
32. Dinosaur Jr. - "Lose" - Not a bad song, kind of nondescript, though. Lotsa other Dinosaur tracks are better and/or more emo - "Repulsion", "Severed Lips", "Sludgefest", "The Lung", "Raisans", "In a Jar", etc.
31. Alkaline Trio - "Private Eye"
30. Alkaline Trio - "Radio"
29. Jimmy Eat World - "Bleed America" *Sucks per Steve Schnee, Jimmy Mod recommends "Sweetness" instead
28. Fall Out Boy- "Dance, Dance"
27. My Chemical Romance- "Welcome to the Black Parade"
26. Sed Non Satiata - "Spirit Fuel"
25. Get Up Kids, "Don't Hate Me"
24. Mock Orange - "She Runs the Ride"
23. Quicksand - "Dine Alone"
22. Christiansen - "Kentucky Goddamn"
21. At The Drive-In - "Chanbara"
20. The Anniversary - "All Right For Now"
19. Rites of Spring - "For Want Of"
18. Q and Not U - "Hooray for Humans"
17. Dismemberment Plan - "You Are Invited"
16. Far - "The System"
15. The Promise Ring - "Make Me a Mix Tape"
14. Brand New - "Jude Law a Semester Abroad"
13. Blink 182 - "Stay Together For the Kids"
12. Yellowcard - "Ocean Avenue"
11. All-American Rejects - "Swing, Swing"
10. My Chemical Romance - "To the End"
09. Lifetime - "25 Cent Giraffes"
08. Get Up Kids - "I'm A Loner, Dottie, A Rebel"
07. No Knife - "Mission Control"
06. J Church - "Panama"
05. The Modern Lovers- "Girl Friend" - I would've gone with "Astral Plane" or "She Cracked" but I'm glad they're here anyway
04. American Football - "Honestly"
03. The Appleseed Cast - "Steps and Numbers"
02. Jeremy Enigk - "Shade and the Black Hat"
01. The Paper Chase - "We Know Where You Sleep"

Sunny Day Real Estate had 3 mentions. 2 each for Alkaline Trio, Embrace, Get Up Kids, Jets To Brazil, My Chemical Romance, Rites Of Spring, and The Promise Ring.

Tardy students:
Cursive - "Some Red Handed Slight of Hand"
Foo Fighters - "Everlong"
Cursive - "Radiator Hums"
Rainer Maria - "Artificial Light"
American Football - "Honestly"
Mates of State - "Proofs"
Pretty Girls Make Graves - "Speakers Push the Air"
Very Secretary - "Nagarkot"
Joan of Arc - "Anne Aviary"
Jimmy Eat World - "What Would I Say To You Now"
Seaweed - "Thru The Window"
Taking Back Sunday - "You're So Last Summer"
Fall Out boy - "Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner"
Dashboard Confessional - "Hands Down"
Dashboard Confessional - "Screaming Infidelities"
Rufio - "Still"
Taking Back Sunday - "One Eighty By Summer"
Seaweed - "Bill"
Seaweed "Clean Slate"
Cursive - "The Gentleman Caller"

Another couple late additions:
Husker Du - "Broken Home Broken Heart"
MC Lars feat. Hearts That Hate - "Signing Emo"

If you factor in the post-50s, Cursive makes a impressive late showing with 3, and these all have 2: Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Eat World, Rainer Maria, Seaweed, Taking Back Sunday.

I move to vote on the top "50 Emo Songs That Don't Suck"
It's undoubtedly needless, overkill, and a waste of ILM server space (what isn't?) but what else are we going to do, drunk and in front of the computer, reflecting on our younger, more naive days as angsty children? This thread has to be pissing off at least 98% of ILM so we might as well run it into the ground in hopes of pissing them off that much more. Oh wait, no one cares.
It's totally emo to vote on the top "50 Emo Songs That Don't Suck"

yes you're right without a doubt

earinfections (Nick Twisp), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 00:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm A Loner, Dottie, A Rebel
sometimes i think this song is singularly responsible for most of the emo we have today, and not just the long songtitle that doesn't have anything to do with the actual lyrical content. hoo boy.

-- Emily B (emily.burnha...) (webmail), Monday 4:46 AM. (Emily B) (later) (link)

Yes! This is also the song that started my own weakness for some emo, notably many of the songs mentioned here; surprising because usually I disagree with these kind of threads.

Is this song really early enough to have had such an impact, though? Was it really that different?

I'd also like to add Alkaline Trio's "Queen of Pain" and second "What Would I Say To You Now."
