!!!!Oh man... I can't imagine.
I did some on the weekend and I'm still feeling a little low.[snip]doing it every weekend and then being a horrible misanthrope for the next five days[snip]Dud if done every weekend[snip][...] makes you numb and grumpy
OK, so yeah, this is a common complaint. I find even without chemicals, having a really fun night out with friends, then going back to "normal" life (work/school) can be depressing. Actually, that's been the story of my week so far. But I can see how that would be magnified by the chemical aspect (lack of serotonin or whatever).
And thanks for the tips dog latin.

The essential tip with stuff like this is to always treat it like it's the last time you'll ever do it. Over-abusing any kind of substance is never going to do you any favours so it goes without saying that keeping things sensible, following any tips and hints and making sure you are with people you know and trust are all U & K.

I only did half a pill once at a party because I'm a chickenshit. I got the buildup, but def. not the full experience. I'm planning on taking it when I see Animal Collective in April. Does this seem like a good idea? And don't say no just cause you hate AC.

Not sure I'd take E at an Animal Colective gig - not much chance for dancing, no? Where do you live?
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 12 March 2009 09:32 (fifteen years ago) link
I will admit the only time I've heard Animal Collective was at a gig 5 years ago so I may be wrong about their music, but I assumed it was very freeform, noise centered and dense. Whereas E is much better suited to music with space, groove, and above all repetition - seeing a good DJ who plays something along the axis of techno, deep house or minimal would be my recommendation.
My 'first time' was at a Portishead gig about 15 years ago, it was good, but it wasn't until around about my 5th time taking it, dancing to a DJ playing stripped-back house that I really "got" ecstasy.

my experience with E is... i'll love whatever the fuck is playing or going on

― Dr X O'Skeleton, Thursday, 12 March 2009 10:38 (fifteen years ago) link
Well that’s kind of the point (unless you’ve over done it), but there are some things which are a natural fit to ecstasy’s rapture and the repetitive mind-set it puts you in.
― Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 12 March 2009 11:22 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, i know, but Whitey seems to be asking if he'll have a good time and the answer is definitely yes.It may not be the best possible time that he could be having with the drug, but it'll still be fucking fantastic.

Perfect E musik: "Music For 18 Musicians". Neu. Tavener's "The Protecting Veil". For the coming down: Juana Molina. Reserve for max 2-3 times a year and it won't grind on you. Magnesium + 5-HTP. Avoid alcohol like the plague (maybe just a bottle of champagne between 2 people). Drop with your spouse. Classic squared.

I used to think they didn't mix, but while alcohol dulls part of the buzz I find they go together quite nicely (although probably not the best idea for your body). I do make sure the majority of my drinking is either before or after as I find I get fluid retention while 'on one', and the idea of huge amounts of fluid sloshing around my system is a little scary. But then I find I naturally start to share any booze I have with the people I'm with so there's never much change of that… and then start sharing their cigs in return (I'm a non-smoker), and then start liberally sharing my hugs… things I'd normally never do.

I heard this year that the drug was synthesised way earlier than one might expect and probably before its usage could really be what it became. & that it was popularised about 60 or 70 years later. After some clinical usage which itself was like 50 years after its initial synthesis. So wondering what it was initially synthesised for and how they came upon later usage.

However, in these documents there were no indications for plans to develop an appetite suppressant. MDMA was mentioned only casually and without being called ‘MDMA’. In the patent specification, MDMA appeared only as a chemical formula and in the annual report it was referred to as ‘Methylsafrylamin’. The accurate back- ground for the first synthesis of MDMA was that Merck wanted to find and patent pathways leading to haemo- static substances, not appetite suppressors. The company tried to evade an existing patent for the synthesis of a clot- ting agent called ‘Hydrastinin’ held by the German com- petitor Farbenfabriken Elberfeld und Decker or Bayer/ Elberfeld, as stated explicitly by the head of Merck’s labo- ratory, Dr Walter Beckh (1870–1915) in the Annual Report for 1912.

A good thoughtful, and open, thread. Particularly enjoyed this description of the human condition:
Well, it did make a difference to us, but without making a difference in us. Not even birth is a greater breach of promise. The world is the same dismal day-to-day wake-to-work regimen, the same work-to-eat, eat-to-shit cycle, the same sleep-to-dream routine, sharing in order to quarrel over the cut, the same old same it was before...
