dan, how long does it take to do something like those venice panels? those are pretty cool.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 19 February 2008 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks, Gott. Without being distracted I can draw about two pages a day.

The gay bear sketches have tremendous potential, Dan. I recommend that you develop them further.

Wow.

a few statements I believe are true-

God is real, and God is love.

God is the creator of procreation, desire, and eros.

God wants us to be happy.

I like to draw naked mice.

Drawing naked mice makes me happy.

Shine on, you crazy diamond.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm working on a revision of the last panel-it would be much more appropriate if Mallard runs over a newspaper vending machine.

Dan Lacey, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Isn't that a bit obvious, though?

Bodrick III, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:34 (sixteen years ago) link

I suspect there's enough energy in the rest of the drawing where it won't become the first thing you see.

Dan Lacey, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link

dan, i think it's much more satisfying to see those smug doonesbury jokers in an epic smash-up, imho

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 4 March 2008 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link

also, the picture of the gay bear buttsecks -- the topman's ass-pucker looks a little too, uh, exposed. like, it's either the most prominent butthole ever, or he's prolapsing. that aside, i really enjoy your artwork, dan!

Last Winehouse is best. Dan, do you consider yrself to be influenced at all by Robert Crumb?

libcrypt, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm a big Crumb fan, so that's probably true.

Dan Lacey, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:18 (sixteen years ago) link

dan lacey what are your top 5 most important political issues?

and what, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I've been trying to care. I'm not much motivated by politics anymore, mainly because I see neglect everywhere. 'Hot issues' run for a while as fads and then nothing gets accomplished; I've been trying to get off of that stupid train.

As a partial answer I would say life issues, if anything. Euthanasia still interests me, as does cloning. Renewable energy; if we had advanced solar capacity it would solve many of our domestic and defense related problems.

I'm more interested in why people care about certain issues, particularly as seen through the lens of faith and sexual motivation.

Dan Lacey, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link

what are your religious beliefs? are you against euthanasia because you believe it takes a life provided by god?

and what, Wednesday, 12 March 2008 23:54 (sixteen years ago) link

That's a good question.

I've sort of had a falling out with God as of late, so I'm not really advocating anything except doing good, or trying to do good.

There are still too many cases of people 'coming back' after all hope was gone, so I would err on the side of caution. But as for moral absolutes; except for a few cases I've lost my enthusiasm.

Dan Lacey, Thursday, 13 March 2008 00:03 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks for the answers!

dan, if you haven't posted it here yet, please post the bob ross/happy tree one. that's awesome. if i had unlimited funds i'd buy 6.5 billion copies of that and mail one to everyone on earth.

I've had Ilxor's ask me now and then if they can buy a cartoon; if you click on the above image it will take you to a page where you can purchase a high resolution copy from Paypal for $5. If you guys would like to support the cartoon that's a great way to do so.

I'll post a link where you can download a print-copy of the Neverborn/Bob Ross Happy Tree toon as well for GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ. Would make a nice coloring sheet.

Dan Lacey, Thursday, 20 March 2008 17:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Someone's going to ask me this-

Chantal Sebire is saying "Thank you for releasing me, little one. Now I am finally free!"

Dan Lacey, Thursday, 20 March 2008 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

That condition she had made me definitely sympathise with her request.

Michael White, Thursday, 20 March 2008 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I recommend against GISing Chantal Sebire. Oh, my lunch.

libcrypt, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Hell, even a Google text search wasn't worth it:

A rare form of cancer had burrowed through her sinuses and nasal cavities, causing her nose to swell to several times its original size, and pushing one of her eye sockets out of her head.

Pleasant Plains, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Dan, I hate to be all frenchy pedantic here, but the 'e' at the end of petite makes it a feminine adjective. Petit is the proper spelling and p'tit is "li'l".

Michael White, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:41 (sixteen years ago) link

Well, let's get it right. Drop the 'e' and what do you suggest with 'p'tit is "li'l"?'

Dan Lacey, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:48 (sixteen years ago) link

If she's going to call someone 'bonhomme', she's quite likely to say 'p'tit' instead of 'petit'. It's kind of idiomatic, is what I'm saying.

Michael White, Thursday, 20 March 2008 20:59 (sixteen years ago) link

this is how you leverage the internet to make you look smart!

El Tomboto, Thursday, 20 March 2008 21:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Change made, thanks!

Dan Lacey, Thursday, 20 March 2008 22:41 (sixteen years ago) link

RIP Dan. You were a star unlike any other.

two weeks pass...

I’m not sure if this will ever happen, but I’m willing to take a shot b/c Dan loved theses boards & talked to me constantly about them. He promised me a lot of male nudes & time ran out for us. Dan was my best friend & if anyone is has a male nude he painted that they’d like to sell, please let me know. I’ll always be looking for one.

As for all of his pancakes, I hope they stay beloved by the world. Dan wanted more for his art legacy beyond Prince. I was happy to see you all remembering him. I miss him every day.

floral, Saturday, 26 February 2022 18:21 (two years ago) link

five months pass...

I somehow missed the news of his death in February, R.I.P.!

I have two Lacey originals that I still love.
