Its kinda sad that, even though he professes to spend all his time with his computer/the internet, he's been unable to properly identify his "all-time top favorite song" of the last 12 years when it took ILE 10 minutes.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 28 July 2006 19:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I was thinking of sending him an email about it! I wonder if he knows (or would even care) that there is a superior version.

where used to work there was a semiretarted guy who played video games everysecond he was awake - even carrying the gameboy to the bathroom. He could not be convinced to stop.

In any case here's why the site's been going down:
Notice: I'm currently undergoing an upgrade to my hosting plan and my website may be down for a short while. This upgrade will span the next week.

I would actually like to try these videogames he's working on if he ever finishes them and puts them online.
And then there's the part where he talks bout wanting to make his own music loops...

really, someone go on and e-mail him about the song. tell him what the real name of it is, about the better version, and send him the nicer mp3 of it (that was it posted up there, right?). i would like to do this, but i'm lazy.

This guy makes me sad, mostly because he makes me think of what would happen to my younger brother if he didn't have anyone looking out for him.

To me this site is amazing, all the pitying is almost condescending I think, like dude isn't asking for apologies, he's just telling it like it is.

deej.. (deej..), Friday, 28 July 2006 20:27 (seventeen years ago) link

let's ask him if he's happy. I bet the answer is "no".

I emailed him. I told him about the composer and track name and I included links to the snesmusic page and Andrew's mp3. I told him to keep up the good work on his website and game development.

The way he classified himself and his daily ongoings is pretty amazing.

Did anything happen to him on June 13th?

However, his "index" is more of a table of contents than an actual index.

Lord in heaven, I need to leave the library for the day.

molly d (mollyd), Friday, 28 July 2006 21:01 (seventeen years ago) link

He wrote me back, very polite.
He wondered what Matt Berardo would think of him listening to the song so many times, mentioned that his 2D game in undergoing final testing and that he is setting up a message board on his website, encouraging me to post. He also said he prefers .WAVs to mp3s as they are easier to manipulate.
His first name is Nick (but that's no secret if you've looked at his guestbook).

Marmot 4-Tay: Hold these goddamn chickens! (marmotwolof), Friday, 28 July 2006 22:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, that's really cool, Marmot.

About him being happy, though. I thought I read somewhere on his site him mentioning that he feels his existance is pretty bleak, and him also speculating about the (possible) light at the end of his tunnel. I can't find that part now, but I was sure I read that.

Maybe I'll send him a copy of my "Folktronic" album, Bluegrass Bobcat sounds a lot to me like my Appalachia. (Although the reference to a "girl" in my lyric may well frighten him.)

He's an otaku. In Japan they've become fashionable and sexy to girls following a hit manga, novel, TV series and feature film called Densha Otoko: Train Man. He sounds like the kind of guy who should move to Japan -- for the games, the trains, and the girls. His cockpit-style living space is also very Japanese.

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 29 July 2006 08:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I also think he has a promising future as a comedian, should he choose to stay in the West. He's got great material like "My Annoying Nose":

"The purpose of the nose is to smell, right? My nose doesn't seem to be able to pick up most anything besides smoke where I'm extremely sensitive to. My parents once bought chicken from KFC. They can smell the chicken from even ten feet away. I, who was holding it, couldn't smell it from even a foot away! If a dog's sense of smell was 10,000,000 units, as an example to compare, the average human would get about 2000 units (smell masters would get more around 4000 units). My nose seems to output more around 80 units, a tiny fraction that of normal. My nose, to conclude, has almost no use, but has a lot of strong negatives to simply having it."

Momus (Momus), Saturday, 29 July 2006 08:35 (seventeen years ago) link

He dislikes any music with vocals.

He's an otaku.

Err, he's autistic. There is a huge difference. He's not just some socially inept nerd who keeps to himself. He is biologically lacking the ability to empathise with other human beings.

Why does his site remind you of Innumeracy, curtis?

After reading "My Annoying Nose," which Momus posted, I e-mailed him about my similar problem & let him know it was called anosmia. That was really important to me when I found out. I would be reluctant to diagnose him with anything else, however.

and I am really happy he got to move

( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Sunday, 9 December 2012 11:40 (eleven years ago) link

So am I.

I've been a 'fan' of his for, I don't know, five years or so? I'm actually kind of worried about this, though. As rough as his home life is, I'm having a hard time imagining him being able to fend for himself out there. I guess he'll be living with his sister, but still.

His book would, I'm sure, be a great gift for any ilxors participating in any Secret Santa swap this year (I'm not).

boy_slayer, Sunday, 9 December 2012 12:49 (eleven years ago) link

I can't believe he's actually made it out into the world! Really, sooo happy for him!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DayNcWGMDKg

I watched this earlier, and what a treat it was. I love his voice so much, I could probably fall asleep listening to him go on about his computer hardware, how he creates his youtube videos, and other such things that no one really cares about. He sounds like, I don't know, a really, really boring, college professor or something.

At about the 15:00 minute mark of the above video, he devotes a few minutes to his penny collection (about 25,000). He goes, on and on about it of course, to the point of absurdity, even.

FUN FACT: Because he walks at an average of 3.6 mph, and most other people walk at an average of 2.8 mph, he used to get in trouble in high school because he would actually PUSH people out of his way because they walked to slow. I was extremely surprised to learn about this type of aggressive behavior of his.

Please don't take my interest in Ulillillia as something that I find as a source of amusement, or something. He fascinates me so much, because at one point in my life, I could relate to him frighteningly well.
