Walk down Flatbush to Grand Army Plaza, maybe up Eastern Parkway to the Botantical Gardens/Brooklyn Museum too. I live around there. It's pretty neat.

Candicissima (candicissima), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:11 (eighteen years ago) link

breakfast or lunch at tom's diner is a good idea while in that area.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 15:16 (eighteen years ago) link

sunset park is more the 40s, i think.

>Park Slope, like, near 5th St. and 5th Ave<

Lotsa good eating: the Chip/Curry Shop, New Stone Park Cafe (tho I haven't been there yet). Drinks: The Gate (3rd St), Commonwealth (12th).

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 17:57 (eighteen years ago) link

there's a chip shop on atlantic avenue now if you make it down there.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:13 (eighteen years ago) link

5th ave has all the great spots to eat. also al di la, belleville, blue ribbon... great lakes for drinks. nice all around.

i'm prospect heights. near the park but without the fancy of the slope. oh and we've got the brooklyn musuem and botanical gardens. AND tom's diner. i've eaten so many pancakes there it's incredible.

jane (jane), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:17 (eighteen years ago) link

prospect heights is nice, i should go there more often.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 18:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I tried to go to that chip shop on Atlantic yesterday around lunchtime, but they weren't open yet.

kryptonite?!?! wow, this is getting good....

i was going to propose a meet up...but i've often flaked on going to the yacht club on account of its crowdedness. if i do show up there, i'll be sure to scream out your screename real loud until i find you.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Brainiac to thread!

Ken L (Ken L), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 19:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I killed the thread. For this I am sorry. Maybe if I fly backwards around the globe it will be restored to life.

Kal-El (Ken L), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:28 (eighteen years ago) link

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:49 (eighteen years ago) link

when your neighborhood watering hole is the alibi, well, you go to other neighborhoods.

i guess i should go to rope one of these days tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 02:50 (eighteen years ago) link

man, bars have the dumbest names these days.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:07 (eighteen years ago) link

neither of those bars are new

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:08 (eighteen years ago) link

there's a skeezy biker bar down the road from me here where the sign outside always reads "big ass chsburg $4." now that's a bar!

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:11 (eighteen years ago) link

the place has no windows.

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 04:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I spent the weekend before last in Crowne Heights/East Flatbush. It was pleasant, not much going on though.

waxyjax (waxyjax), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't think I've had a drink on Smith St since the night of the August '03 blackout, when I stopped into boat for some WATER on the trek home.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 13:55 (eighteen years ago) link

it was packed, yeah. we had a nice l'il corner table tho.

Also, I will reply to your email this afternoon.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:49 (eighteen years ago) link

BOAT! I thought that place only existed when charltonlido is here, like as soon as his foot steps on the solid earth of America, this one storefront in Carroll Gardens flips around transformer-style and becomes Boat.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

i had my birthday fap at boat last year, not that anyone besides geeta/rosemary/paul scifisoul showed up...

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:11 (eighteen years ago) link

hey, I had my birthday FAP there, too!

OUR birthday fap! :-)

The Pinup Girls of YANK (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Not that I was within 3000 miles of New York! Maybe everyone else was under the same impression as I was about Boat's magical transformative abilities, and thought you were fooling them.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:48 (eighteen years ago) link

one month passes...
Have any of you played in the Magnetic Field bar trivia contest (alt Wednesdays)? I might need some teammates, and you'd have a shot at the prize, he arrogantly claimed.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 16:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I've been hearing a lot about that place lately. It's on Atlantic and Henry, right? I like trivia! I've got a brain packed with useless info!

Candicissima (candicissima), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 17:00 (eighteen years ago) link

B-b-but what about The Lismar Lounge?

The Door into Summerisle (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 6 January 2022 21:44 (two years ago) link

I think Alex in NYC blogged about a lot of these places.

The Door into Summerisle (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 6 January 2022 21:44 (two years ago) link

I went to the tile bar for like 20 years, lived on 4th and 1st… I would very often play "caroselambra" (which is the closest thing to Wyatting you can do for LZ cuts) and PJ's "A Place Called Home"…

veronica moser, Friday, 7 January 2022 01:43 (two years ago) link

I went there for many years without living in that neighborhood, but not for quite as long as you did.
