I might take in Mike Kelley on Friday too...in fact, that is kinda the main purpose of my visit.

i wanna go to x-tg / mike kelley in january
― am0n, Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:35 (ten years ago) link
my fette sau experience is having discount sliders + bourbon w/ ian after 11pm.
I am crazed for the next 4 weeks with end-of-year film bullshit; I would go to the theuhtuh if anyone had told me about this goddamn Beckett radio play that is now probably sold out after the Times rave yesterday.
oh cept i am seeing the Mekons doc tom'w night at 9:45 so i guess it doesn't matter if i get drunk first.
― eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:47 (ten years ago) link
Yeah with Fette Sau I think we arrived p late so I guess the stuff was a bit cold as they reach the end. The short rib was amazing but a bit hotter would have been good.
I missed that Beckett thing in London too, I'll take a look and see about tickets tho.

So one thing I notice so far is that bars are kind of quiet? Do people tend not to go out midweek? Maybe London is just more over-crowded without as many good bars...
Basing that on a fairly wide "research sample" last night.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Friday, 15 November 2013 16:45 (ten years ago) link
Were you in brooklyn or manhattan
― 乒乓, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:45 (ten years ago) link
apparently the EV
I guess people do not go out midweek as much since everyone is either working or broke in NYC now.
― eclectic husbandry (Dr Morbius), Friday, 15 November 2013 16:49 (ten years ago) link
fewer ppl out when its cold and dark too
― max, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:56 (ten years ago) link

I was in EV and Wburg, there were people around but not much more than a dozen in any bar we were in apart from one EV one. I guess London is more overcrowded, maybe just diff relationship with alcohol.

All night p much, got back to Brooklyn about midnight. Got home about 4am.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Friday, 15 November 2013 17:26 (ten years ago) link
east village can definitely be kinda dead on weeknights sometimes especially if NYU's not in session (it is right now though). it ebbs and flows though. place I used to DJ at would be packed for happy hour, then empty for a few hours, then packed again at midnight.
williamsburg I'm a little more surprised about.
― dmr, Friday, 15 November 2013 17:27 (ten years ago) link
yeah idk bars are generally not empty on thurs night, im going w the sudden cold theory

If anyone is around today I'm fairly free, I went to DJ Harvey with some friends last night but I left about 3, it was p awful, drinks tickets, people queuing for portaloos, bad sound etc.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:16 (ten years ago) link
where did it end up being?
― max, Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:21 (ten years ago) link
Just off Morgan Ave on Ingraham Street. Kind of a warehouse.
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:26 (ten years ago) link
oh i think i know that place. too bad about harvey
― max, Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:29 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, it might have improved but there was a bit of a hunt for drugs beginning and I wasn't really keen to do any, plus it was difficult enough to even get a beer...
― Legitimate space tale (LocalGarda), Sunday, 17 November 2013 14:38 (ten years ago) link
Apparently Harvey got shut down about 20 mins after I left.
In Lower East Side this eve, some good places. Was in Briskettown on Bedford, beforehand, prob enjoyed it more than Fette Sau.
I'm finding Brooklyn feels a bit more suburban even tho I love the amount of good places there are, so much higher general standard compared to London.
Manhattan gets a good buzz going for the tourist tho, I don't really get the New York feeling which I remember from visiting before, in Williamsburg, even tho I really like it and it is more diff to east London than I imagined.
