not sure if Phones 4U tweeting a photo of Neil Hamburger in the course of brand-building social media inanity is an attempt to get him to hurl abuse at them or just a coincidence. on balance I imagine the latter

Big ole dang ole news from Bandcamp

Greetings discozhivago!

We know it's been a while since we rapped at ya, but Bandcamp's inexorable march towards music industry panacea continues! To wit:

(...and then some stuff about an Android app and a music feed etc...)

Bandcamp, you were doing so well!

"Yippee! We have a brand new sparkly website!"

STFU Maplin, you used to be so much better when you actually sold stuff I wanted to buy. Instead of now, where you're trying to be an Argos for electronics. Except there already is an Argos for electronics. It's called Argos. Pricks.

Also WTH is my order? First it was in stock, then out of stock, then back in stock, then you sent me a credit note (or at least it looks like a credit not because there is no explanation as to what it's for other than it's the same amount as the item), then you send me an e-mail saying the item's been dispatched, but today the order history of your BS fisher Price optimised-for-people-with-tablets website says that the item is out of stock again. I mean, is it actually like Hi-De-Hi down in your offices?

tbf their brick & mortar stores are pretty good, if slightly hamstrung by the Argos-for-electronics restriction. Oh but wait, they've recently started referring to their staff as 'Maplineers', which is kind of dangerously close to Craplineers so -1 to the marketing team that came up with that.
http://maplineers.maplin.co.uk/
Kind of reminds me of a 3rd party IT support company I used to work for where the management brought in professional models to appear in the brochures instead of using actual real live technicians.

xp actually there was one photo where a member of the sales team and one of the technicians managed to sneak in, but it was so badly shot and resultant photo so small in the final brochure that it looked like Ming the Merciless having an earnest conversation with a giant potato. If they both got their clobber from Burtons.

They do a good line in cheap but reasonable quality mobile DJ gear. I sometimes get the same kind of almost sexual thrill there that Morrissey claimed he got from going into Ryman's.

Ugh, I just noticed the disclaimer at the bottom of the (very technical official not at all needing to be "fun") emails I get from one of our phone carriers when I do ADSL orders:

"Psst! It's possible that this email contains information that is on the secret squirrel side of confidential. So if you received it accidentally, best let the sender know straight away and delete it. Also, we should let you know that any emails that come and go through Optus might be scanned, stored or read by Optus at its discretion. Oh, and Optus does its best to avoid errors on emails it sends, but we can't promise that it will be error free. So, please don't hold it against us."

How jolly of you, Optus.

Hi ,
Thank you for using Redbubble.
Your order has been received and is currently in production.
We’d like you to now take a moment. Stare up at the vastness of the multiverse and understand what a splendid thing you have done. Somewhere an independent artist is cheerfully dancing in the knowledge that someone likes what they do. It’s a wondrous thing. You should feel good right about now.

Big love,

You seriously think nobody outside of ILX has noticed the epidemic of twee marketing and had to "steal" the idea? I love this place but I would have to say that's unlikely.

Heritage seems to be constantly in the lifestyyyyle bits of the guardian recently - i can only assume he has alimony or a sudden credit card debt or something that requires a lot of G2 guff to support it.

I think Heritage does a lot of liveblogging stuff, so someone's surely complained about him somewhere.

I found today that they don't make MAILER-DAEMON messages like they used to:

I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.

Shed Your Tears
Well, folks, the time for Yummy Rummy's December 3 send-off is finally upon us. We've put pennies in its eyes, and are settin' it free on the soft currents of the ever-after. Gone but never forgotten. Or just gone until we're out of other ideas.

So here's what you should be doing:

1. If you're holding on to Yummy Rummy plays, use them now. After December 3, they're just effigies for posterity. Our antiques guy doesn't forecast much worth-accumulation on 'em either...
2. If you've got unexpired prizes, breathe easy. We played for keeps; they're still yours.
If you need a place for your thoughts or fond memories, do that here. And hey, we're not saying so long forever, just for now. Yummy Rummy could be back - as a dove. Or a game. Or maybe as a spirit that pushes out the clouds and lets the sun shine.

Love,
GrubHub

I should have been clearer: I wasn't suggesting we came up with the idea of hating this marketing angle, just riffing more generally on journos trawling discussion forums to spark ideas for stories (not outright go "oh wait, i never thought of that!" really).
