bone-in on bread??? ew
I was all set to bring a rain of fire on whatever bullshit they picked for Delaware, but seriously Capriotti's Bobbie is fucking AMAZING and I sometimes nearly cry because I live so far away from one. Really any Capriotti's sub. I am actually salivating a little thinking of a Cap's turkey sub with sweet peppers, provolone, onions, pickles, and oil and vinegar. My secondary nomination for Delaware would be the scrapple sandwich. I don't actually feel qualified to opine on a signature IL sandwich.

You're from Delaware and you just called a hoagie a sub
Is the hoagie sub divide that clear
Or are you fading fast. Do we need to get you back to your home soil asap before you disappear completely
― 乒乓, Monday, 11 November 2013 18:43 (ten years ago) link
that divide must be overstated

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/youngandhungry/2013/04/22/official-state-status-eludes-marylands-soft-shell-crab-sandwich/
One Maryland state senator is not giving up the fight to make the soft-shell crab sandwich the official state sandwich of Maryland, despite his proposal dying in the legislature earlier this month.
Sen. Richard Colburn, an Eastern Shore Republican, said he is willing to introduce his bill again in the Maryland Senate, where it passed 43-1 in early April, or wait for another version of it to move in the Maryland House of Delegates, which shelved the bill on April 9. Colburn is taking solace in history. "It took about five years to get the state dessert passed," he said. (Maryland's state dessert is the Smith Island cake.)
Silly as it may be, Kelley should know that Maryland is actually somewhat behind on the official-state-food game. More than a dozen states have officially designated edibles, including pastries (Texas: sopaipilla and strudel), cookies (New Mexico: the bizcochito), dessert (South Dakota: kuchen), snacks (Utah: Jell-O; Illinois: popcorn), muffins (New York: apple muffin), and meat pies (Louisiana: Natchitoches meat pie). Maryland is, however, further along than D.C. or Virginia, neither of which has officially designated foods.

On my home on the train I was thinking that the italian hoagie should be New Jersey's sandwich
And now I find out they listed it as such
Good job

Claiming the best sandwich in NY State is in western New York and not in NYC just seems like hardtrolling to me.

If you say "hoagie" in Delaware you will be looked at quizzically or mocked mercilessly as an outlander, depending on how worldly your tormentors are.
Por ejemplo, subs, subs, subs, and subs.
Subs.

I am never setting foot in delaware again
Not even to save on sales tax
They call them subs even in northern New Castle county. It is a shockingly sharp divide.

Jesus christ somebody bring me a fucking sub or I am going to lose my shit.
I was shocked by this. I expected to be challopping by repping for beef on weck

Tbh the sandwich I see the most around NYC is the falafel sandwich
Which would have been my pick
But I've only been living here for a year and change
― 乒乓, Monday, 11 November 2013 21:04 (ten years ago) link
for every falafel sandwich in nyc there have gotta be like 3-5 shitty chicken parm heroes.

i lived in philly for 2 years and ppl were always like 'don't ever go to pat's or geno's' but curiosity finally won out and i went to pat's....lil steak portion cooked 45 minutes ago, slapped on a cold bun with unmelted cheese..food made with total contempt. three-card monte in a sandwich. still kind of pissed about it tbh.

Yeah I never went
I always went to Tony Luke's under the bridge. They got real successful and started expanding, franchising. There's one in NJ now. They jumped the shark when they opened at Citizens
I think Jim's is really good even though they have a rep for being for tourists since their biggest branch is on South street

is a cheesesteak supposed to be made with a cheese whiz type substance
― 1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Thursday, 21 November 2013 20:41 (ten years ago) link
It's made with cheese whiz
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheez_Whiz
But other acceptable variations include American and Provolone
Don't get swiss, like john kerry
My fav cheesesteak variation is the one w/ hot peppers from Tony Luke's
