Neina is the ambient glitch project launched by Japanese keyboardist Hosomi Sakana. Drawing inspiration from Oval, Neina debuted with Formed Verse (Mille Plateaux, 1999), a textbook on the subtle static textures of the genre (Quit Elegance, Diffraction, Symmetry) but often coldly pretentious. Subconsciousness (Mille Plateaux, 2000) adds more movement.

He's a good writer, even if his allergy for pop music is somewhat funny (but this was the typical attitude of the 70's Italian critic).
also, his hate for the Beatles is almost legendary: he sincerely thinks the Fab Four were nothing more than a twisted MI5 plot to conquer the world.

sarahell, Thursday, 5 June 2014 22:16 (nine years ago) link

ha, scaruffi actually does symposiums and stuff — i assumed he was just a crazed dude sitting at home consuming and rating every piece of music in existence

Who whom kissed? (imago), Friday, 6 June 2014 23:53 (nine years ago) link

his top 3 records of all time is intriguing. trout mask replica, rock bottom and faust's debut. i rly love the first two, need to hear faust

Who whom kissed? (imago), Friday, 6 June 2014 23:54 (nine years ago) link

if theres anything on his top 40 u havent heard theres a good chance u will like it, some similar (if not entirely aligned) sensibilites at work

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Friday, 6 June 2014 23:55 (nine years ago) link

have faust primed and ready to go

and yeah, there's a certain something we share, although I think our frames of reference are naturally tempered by our respective ages

Who whom kissed? (imago), Friday, 6 June 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link

i'm missing an awful lot of his top 40 in fact, but almost everything i have heard i do like, in some cases adore

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:02 (nine years ago) link

his hatred of the beatles would be more endeating if he didnt it counterweight it with his love for the doors zappa etc and all sorts of other partially educated priapic rock wastemen

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:04 (nine years ago) link

lol those are the exceptions implicit in 'almost everything'

although 'light my fire' has some nice keyboard work & i'm not in it for the frontman

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:07 (nine years ago) link

this album is awesome, of course

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:28 (nine years ago) link

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:37 (nine years ago) link

thats p impressive then! if u have to be a digits maven then his parsimony (such that 7/10 is quite an estimable score) is the way to go

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:41 (nine years ago) link

yes. the 8 was not given lightly. faust are wonderful

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:49 (nine years ago) link

i shall have to have another look at faust 1

Little Saint Hugh of Lincoln (nakhchivan), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:50 (nine years ago) link

it doesn't have the sleek otherworldliness of neu! but isn't too far behind in terms of quality, i'd say

Who whom kissed? (imago), Saturday, 7 June 2014 00:55 (nine years ago) link

ah, now here's some prime ILX content of yore
