we have students on either side of our house so it can be pretty bad. this years batch are refreshingly quiet though (so far anyway).

can't you go via the freeholder or whatever? there will probably be covenants for the lease of each flat that forbid this sort of nuisance
― nakhchivan, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 13:37 (ten years ago) link
yeah i'm just gonna let them know normal style that the next time it happens my landlord will be writing to the management co
but srsly who needs to be asked this once let alone twice
― midwife christless (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:16 (ten years ago) link

^b liek i didn't want to type the accent up above cos that's dodge territory but
ime the people who wash clothes late at night have energy tariffs that discourage daytime electricity use? but yeah british washing machines sound like the apocalypse when they're on the spin cycle and take approx 5 hours to finish a load so it is really not appropriate for an apartment building
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:36 (ten years ago) link
yeah i know and the thought had crossed my mind and srsly i can get with modern day life cycles that have ppl in apts making noise til midnight and up and noisy at 7am (nb, walls are like paper and the water pump alone in each apartment is enough to be heard two apts across- this more than the noise of the machine is the issue tbh) but anything after midnight on a weeknight and tbh i dont care if you're getting it for free you're taking the piss without any comeback
― midwife christless (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:42 (ten years ago) link
like im no expert, but is there even a tariff that starts at 3am cos this guy/this guy's tyrant wife?? is like clockwork
― midwife christless (darraghmac), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link
yeah exackly i assumed it's some kind of economy 7 deal but tough shit you live in a flat
― . (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link
set timer to start at 3 probly means can take shit out for drying when she gets up without it hanging around in the dryer, starting to think you are a terrible man for interrupting this flawless system
― . (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link
i'm pretty sure all those tariffs have a cut-off around 9pm-ish so if saving money IS what they're doing then they are... waiting til 3am because otherwise the noise would disturb them ~>:(
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:45 (ten years ago) link

― . (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link
im a terrible sleeper and always have been but now that my week revolves around three midweek days that start at 7 and finish at 10pm shit has gotten v v real, up til a few weeks ago i'd have been quite delighted that we were all bumping around our own lil life cubicles at whatever times made us happy tbh

Spanish prosecutors are seeking a 20-month prison sentence for a professional pianist whose former neighbour is suing over alleged noise pollution.
Musician Laia Martin is on trial in Girona after her family's downstairs neighbour, Sonia Bosom, accused her of causing psychological harm.
Prosecutors are also demanding that the 27-year-old be banned from professional piano playing for six months.
A verdict is expected within two weeks.

is yr golem with the washing machine still being a shithead?
― iateeogenic illness (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Thursday, 21 November 2013 12:26 (ten years ago) link
someone just needs to invent something that gets rid of sound from between walls. i've seen something that apparently you can stick to a window that uses noise-cancellation technology and blocks out sound from outside. whoever manages to do this for wall-to-wall will be a zillionaire.

He showers after getting up so the water pump can be noisy enough but nothing else
Some alchemy or other in the logic centre ive been lumbered with accepts showering as reasonable and washing machine as not and ive been sleeping through- tho the noise is prob not significantly less, idk.

It took us an entire year to get our noisy neighbor thrown out, which is amazing, considering that he was a squatter.
― Freeland Avenue (I M Losted), Sunday, 31 May 2015 16:51 (eight years ago) link
Can you sue local government if they won't evict a squatter who is making your life hell? Shouldn't the county evict him if he doesn't belong on a vacant property? Can we sue the owner for aiding and abetting a nuisance?

there is a particularly violent in-law, who when he visits my neighbours they manage to keep him outside the house. But the loud chatter always continues into the early hours - no matter how cold the outdoor conditions are. And they seem powerless to ban him, because he keeps returning and he is abysmal. I'm not a curtain twitching type, but my bedroom window is almost adjacent with their back door because of the hill our house was built on, and this show never seems to end:(
― calzino, Monday, 12 February 2018 01:30 (six years ago) link
My neighbors aren't noisy but they leave a black and white pit mix outside 24/7 that can be. She's also started breaking out from the lack of attention into my backyard or into the front yards and tearing up my trash.
Talking to them has been pointless and it seemingly never happens when I can call animal control, so I've started just throwing the trash in their yard.

moved again since, note taken thus far tonight:
night sun 29th July
door being slammed in what can only be described as intentionally violent manner such that sound carried loudly through to other apartments loudly enough to prevent any chance of sleep.
repeated at intervals of c.5 mins from approx 23.50 through 01.00
i can only surmise intentional and vexatious due to frequency, the regular intervals between and the violence of the slamming (you could literally hear the run-up on each occasion).
unsure whether they were seeking to aggravate or provoke an adjacent neighbour, ourselves or genuinely undergoing a traumatic personal event (no noise of conversation or of any other kind throughout period save for the doors, no signs of others in apt, etc)
