4, I think, yeah. Lots of build-up to them, too-- steal this, collect that. I mean, I get that some people are like "man this crates mission is boring" but I far preferred the variety in scale and intensity of the missions to the $1-$10-$100-$1000-$10000-$100000 style of the previous games.

there's def a big stretch betw the first and second heists tho

the pacing's a little off

cozen, Saturday, 19 October 2013 23:11 (ten years ago) link

there aren't as many heists as you would think though, Slocki's right-- especially considering how many obvious heisty places there are on the map (max security pen, racetrack etc). I wondered whether that's bc the future SP DLC will be sets of heists... that would make sense.

also some dude gave me $250,000,000 in online today... I don't know how to feel about it! I feel kind of like I did as a record collector when Napster came out.

is that part of the "October Settlement" from Rockstar, or did @l 5h1pley give you that money out of his own pocket?

Passive mode only works so well -

I turned it on last night for $100. Went to an ATM. Found a car to steal and sell. Shopped at Ammunination. Was walking toward this property I might get when I'm finally an 80-thousandaire when I see this white blip driving right toward me. It stops and starts zipping through the alleys to the staircase I was standing on.

Dude runs up and just stands in front of me. I don't move. I hear him say to his friend, "I don't know, he's just standing there." His friend, from where ever he was, says "Well, shoot him already!" Guy raises his gun and nothing happens. I push past him and continue down the steps. "He just walked past me," guy says. Friend is giving him a hard time, "Do you not know how to murder someone?"

Felt pretty smug until later on, the guy came around a corner and ran over me. Should've kept passive mode off and shot the guy when I saw him coming the first time.

Inside 24/7 convenience stores or those orange super 7 ones. Anywhere marked by a store icon, really (except liquor stores.)

You can also deposit money on your cellphone.

i suspect there's a lot more stock movement scripted to story missions -- i've seen a couple things out there about one or two but i wonder about the rest

goole, Monday, 21 October 2013 16:15 (ten years ago) link

thing is cuz you cant short stocks, its not like you can cash in on something right before you kill a CEO or whatever

and if you're expected to research the companies to see who the company's competitors are, i dont think that really qualifies as a fun thing to do in a GTA game

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 21 October 2013 16:17 (ten years ago) link

well no.

what i mean is, after the final mission, the news is screaming about GOLD PRICES SOARING and i wondered if it had some meaning

Recently I did a mission where a rich guy asks for a ride to the airport. As you drop him off, he gives you a little bit of money and tells you to invest money in a stock. So I put the 50 million I had in the bank for Michael all in that stock.

So far I have only lost 20 million dollars as a result of that investment!

polyphonic, Monday, 21 October 2013 17:53 (ten years ago) link

yeah that's a specific one -- surprised it didn't work for you, maybe you missed the window. i made a shitload!

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 21 October 2013 17:55 (ten years ago) link

man, buying stocks is terrible though, you have to keep pressing the plus button one at a time? i actually would have invested more if i hadn't already spent five minutes on that.

I've got a mic now, I just don't use it often.

I did use it last night in some caper where two teams had to steal this van and take it back to a guy who wanted the drugs inside. My team got inside a pick-up truck at the beginning and I was the driver. I'm pretty good at driving, but the truck had no traction, so I was sliding around a bit.

So I say, "Dammit, get off of me cat" even though the cat was sleeping on the bed behind me.

as great as i think this game is its still waay behind the original san andreas in terms of content and challenges.

the only thing ive struggled with so far are the two chopper missions for flight school.

and seriously races? so lacking AGAIN. original san andreas must have had at least thirty races and they were all pretty tough.

im still enjoying my time with it though. just not sure how much longer it will last

prop forward turned celebrity chef (Ste), Monday, 21 October 2013 21:15 (ten years ago) link

Yeah the Story races are all way too easy.

Although if I want my ass handed to me, there's always online races. I rarely win at those.

I had the exact same problem. I turned off the console before it got a chance to save (which IIRC it asks you before it does anyway on a fresh boot) and booted again, directly into SP instead of via Online, and it put me back where I was, mercifully.

How do I boot directly into SP? nb this is a borrowed xbox and I have no idea what I'm doing

Just turn the game on and don't press A during the loading screen (because if you do, it'll switch to online, and as i learned pressing A again doesn't load SP, even though it SAYS it does... they had like 500 QA and shit like this isn't fixed wow)

I was doing an online mission where you're supposed to steal a big plane and fly it back to Sandy Shores. I killed all the guys and took the plane. There were two other players sitting around doing nothing. Right before I finished the mission one of the dudes used a remote detonator to blow the plane up and the mission failed. I was angry but also impressed.

Shot a guy in a deathmatch coming at me on a motorcycle. Felt pretty cool until I also shot the motorcycle and died in the ensuing explosion.

xpost haha, find it nuts how people go online on gta and just hang around chatting with mates, sit around relaxing, doing nothing much until they encounter our intrepid ilx hero, eyeball each other warily and then it's just a matter of time before shit goes down

NI, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 17:27 (ten years ago) link

i don't think i 'get' the online. which is funny. because in a certain sense the 1p is even more pointless

goole, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 17:29 (ten years ago) link

Last night, there was a guy just sitting in his tank down by the beach, shouting "Come and get me! Look at my rating! Yeah, that's right. Go ahead and put a bounty on my head!"

Like, that's all he's going to do? Sit in a tank by himself and yell into the microphone?

One of his buddies went into passive mode and started running toward him. I was still pissed about my passive experience from the other night, so it was especially satisfying that he never saw me coming across the parking lot toward him in a Hummer.

Here's a list of what's unlocked in each level of the online game:

polyphonic, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 17:39 (ten years ago) link

i think it would be super fun to do 'story mission' type stuff co-op online, if people are generally with it, which they generally aren't ime. i shd try to give that more of a shot.

i tried out some team deathmatch, but the joining/matching wasn't great leading to small teams. and there was one dude who was leveled up enough to have an SMG, meaning he rocked everybody else up and down. the shooting is so much less tight than MP3; lotta bad perspective problems making corners really weird

racing is way more fun, which weirdly i'm pretty good at. idk how people can be so bad at that? i won the intro race by a bunch.

goole, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 17:57 (ten years ago) link

and there was one dude who was leveled up enough to have an SMG,

Didn't know that was you on that motorcycle.

I'm RP 15 and got placed in a match with a bunch of people ranked 3 to 5. When the cut scene began of the team members holding their little pistols, I felt bad for 1/10 of a second.

Because it sucks for me when I get placed in a match with folks ranked 20-40 and I'm ducking assault rifle and sniper shots.

pplains, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 18:08 (ten years ago) link

Horde mode, that's what I want to unlock

after that I don't find the unlocks very exciting until like level 40

antexit, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 20:37 (ten years ago) link

survival = horde = level 15

polyphonic, Tuesday, 22 October 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

That's where I'm at now.

Fortunately, Dave Matthews and Blues Traveler haven't come looking for me just yet.
