― Nhex, Saturday, 19 October 2013 02:25 (ten years ago) link
of the one i posted? honestly i've no idea. the second one (pokopang) is a line game, and that's definitely all in english.

Everyone on the trains in Tokyo was playing Puzzle&Dragons but it demands always-on data, so fuck that.
― stet, Sunday, 20 October 2013 11:26 (ten years ago) link
Yeah that's why I gave up on marvel puzzle quest too, seems to be an irritating trend, loads of games around at the moment which should be fine offline but which crap out when I enter the tube.
― JimD, Sunday, 20 October 2013 16:09 (ten years ago) link
pocket mine and marvel puzzle quest both have terrible energy mechanisms but are completely addictive.

http://doomanddestiny.com/just started but this is a lovingly crafted Final Fantasy / RPG Maker pastiche that promises 30 hours of play for a buck. it's fun.

P&D is sooooooo, sooooooo addictive
― Nhex, Sunday, 20 October 2013 22:37 (ten years ago) link
but isn't it some candy crush must spend real ca$h to progress bullshit?
― Euler, Sunday, 20 October 2013 22:42 (ten years ago) link
nah, it's a lot better IMO; i haven't paid a dime. they're also fairly generous with their IAP currency (Magic Stones), usually running events that give you a free stone everyday - just don't waste them on recharging your energy, only use them for the "rare egg machine" during special events. basically, if you're patient and cleverly manage your time (you get a free energy refill when you hit a new experience level) it's very doable
i went back to play Candy Crush afterwards and it just feels like a dog; marvel PQ is a step over CC but not the fine-tuned machine that P&D is, yet
― Nhex, Sunday, 20 October 2013 23:17 (ten years ago) link
why can't i find puzzle & dragons?
― obi wankin' obi (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 October 2013 23:29 (ten years ago) link
It's only in the Japanese and US stores.

Don't really understand the complaints about Candy Crush. There's absolutely no need to spend anything to get to the last level.
― tsrobodo, Monday, 21 October 2013 17:12 (ten years ago) link
six hours into "doom and destiny" i am ready to sing its praises to all of youthis is a full fledged, worthwhile Final Fantasy/Dragon Warrior style RPG with a sophomoric but very serviceable sense of humor (the sleep spell is called "nighty night asshole"), surprising depth, heavy customization, easy to play and control on iphone (also on android) and only a buck. if you have a passing interest in RPGs this is a no-brainer, go get it.

do you like euros? it's a pretty pure euro. very different from catan (for the better) imho. i dig it.
― socki (s1ocki), Friday, 25 October 2013 03:30 (ten years ago) link
i do like euros but generally in person more than on iDevice eg ticket to ride, catan, dominion - no experience yet in either medium w/ puerto rico, power grid or carcassone

spaceteam is free and amazing (requires 2-4 players) - i really can't overstate how much fun it is
― Mordy , Wednesday, 30 October 2013 04:05 (ten years ago) link
they've made some fast major updates to Marvel Puzzle Quest, it's definitely easier, more grindable, more fun now
― Nhex, Friday, 1 November 2013 15:54 (ten years ago) link
yeah that game is really really good, all I've played lately. first f2p game I've been tempted to spend real money on (doubt I'll give in but I can see the appeal)
― Euler, Friday, 1 November 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link
to boost your collection space, right? too many covers!
― Mordy , Friday, 1 November 2013 21:11 (ten years ago) link
Spaceteam looks rad.
― schwantz, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:21 (ten years ago) link
yes, though I've kept up ok with the money the game gives, have nine spots now and just plow covers into upgrades. but I have to leave one slot open to upgrade. ugh.
also though I have a bunch of characters that I could level way up but I don't have enough of the purple money to level. neeeeeeeed moooooore
― Euler, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:22 (ten years ago) link
xp
spaceteam is so rad. really. maybe game of the year.
― Mordy , Friday, 1 November 2013 21:23 (ten years ago) link
I'm psyched to try it out with my kids tonight. I have a couple of Kindle Fires around (from my old job) and some iPhones. I hope they all work together...
― schwantz, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:29 (ten years ago) link
i'm at 16 card slots in MPQ and it's getting REALLY tempting to buy in, but i shall resist. i do wish it were as generous as P&D, but it's getting there with the daily bonus + constant tourneys, analogous to the daily/limited dungeons in P&D
the decision of where to sell your cards is agonizing, not gonna lie
mordy: that game does sound pretty fun but i assume you need to get at least 3 people to play with you?
― Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 05:57 (ten years ago) link
2-4 players; it was plenty fun with just. 3.
― Mordy , Saturday, 2 November 2013 12:47 (ten years ago) link
tourneys in mpq are key: pretty doable to feed on smaller players and get some nice goodies. got a level 16 Doctor Doom yesterday! sold my level 17 classic Hawkeye to fit him, but Hawkeye kinda sucks. Iron Man on the other hand...
Wolverine is so far disappointingly lame. but I've gotten no upgrades for him yet. game just keeps throwing Hawkeye & Storm covers at me, and neither is great; well, maybe the *other* Storm is great, but the one I leveled up to 6 is pretty lame and I'm probably gonna sell her.
― Euler, Saturday, 2 November 2013 12:53 (ten years ago) link
classic storm is good bc of elemental barrier
― Mordy , Saturday, 2 November 2013 13:09 (ten years ago) link
i kept common hawkeye and storm because their skills are really useful - it's too bad they'll always stay weak damage wise, but fully lvled up they'll be good third-slotters
― Nhex, Saturday, 2 November 2013 16:07 (ten years ago) link
and yeah, i love elemental barrier on Portacio Storm
i wish i wasn't playing this enough that i was into this discussion but i have put in HOURS on this fuckin thingi wam waking up matching 4 block lines. Fuck you puzzlequest and your goddamn pusherman skills

half woken brain saying "i'll get up as soon as i can match five blue gems" and i can't even realize I AM NOT PLAYING
― there's no camera to capture that yelping moment! (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 2 November 2013 17:26 (ten years ago) link
I've had that feeling with various games before, it's disturbing
― i too went to college (silby), Sunday, 3 November 2013 18:13 (ten years ago) link
i had forgotten just how addictive the puzzlequest dynamic is... giving the constant sugar-drip of character building and the lolnerd Marvel Universe connections, this is genuinely dangerous stuff. I've taken to playing "until I kill all the characters" and that's taking about two and a half hours a go now
