as long as i'm WHINING i always wish each weapon had its own particular traits or strengths, so when newer shit unlocks you still might have good reason to use the old stuff.

also the flashlight is an annoying attachment.

goole, Monday, 30 September 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

i'm p sure i've complained about the guns in every single game i've posted about here.

goole, Monday, 30 September 2013 18:57 (ten years ago) link

kinda wish this game was more restrictive on how much hardware you can carry a la max payne 3. if only cos it's annoying flipping through all that stuff

what do you spend the money on in this game? isnt it just like, three stores with a bunch of shirts to buy?

socki (s1ocki), Monday, 30 September 2013 21:47 (ten years ago) link

and properties worth tens of millions.

goole, Monday, 30 September 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link

xpost yeah I'm wondering the same thing.

none of the properties seem worth investing in. what does the golf course give you?

reckless woo (Z S), Monday, 30 September 2013 21:50 (ten years ago) link

I put all my savings in HAL the other day and so far I have made a ton of coin. Thankx ilx

polyphonic, Monday, 30 September 2013 21:53 (ten years ago) link

There's some pretty expensive special vehicles on sale on the internet.

buying the properties can give you extra missions and stuff to do. It's also just a progressive accomplishment.

Its pretty funny how close some of all this skates to what you do in the Sims, much bemusement for me.

I didnt notice that! I also wondered if the moon cycled accurately considering the console'd be able to roughly know from the date, but i guess the day/night cycles are too rapid.

Well, GTA Online is live. I've spent ten minutes waiting for my first session to launch :(

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 10:49 (ten years ago) link

I'm planning on not even bothering with that for the first week or two tbh, I doubt it'll be usable any time soon.

JimD, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 12:13 (ten years ago) link

Servers look like they're totally down for now on 360. Managed about 15 minutes of griefing-afflicted running around in an almost totally car-free downtown beforehand.

bizarro gazzara, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 12:35 (ten years ago) link

couldn't give a hoot for online tbh, gta for me is single player

one benefit of the government shutdown is now i'm going to have plenty o time to get to 100%

SPOILERS KINDA and no i haven't done it myself

but i think it's hilarious the reward for the ufo parts is so goofy and lame. haha fanboys!

goole, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 17:52 (ten years ago) link

i triggered the mission but i don't know what i am supposed to do and i care just enough to type this but not enough to google it

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 17:53 (ten years ago) link

From my pal:

"GTA Online: character creation, introductory cut scene, mandatory first race -- in lobby for three minutes and counting. Haven't yet controlled a character."

Good thing they took an extra two weeks to iron out the kinks

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

This is easily the best GTA gameworld, but maybe the worst GTA game?

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:30 (ten years ago) link

u rly think so? counterpoint: best gta world, best gta game

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:36 (ten years ago) link

all the mechanics and systems seem either on par with IV or improved (and IV wasn't bad at all imo)

mission design is like 1mx better too. the nested setup missions & decision-making of the heists is just awesome.

goole, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:39 (ten years ago) link

i feel legit bad for debrah.

goole, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:41 (ten years ago) link

watched roomie do the first "pick your crew" heist, and then did it myself with ONLY ONE different dude (expensive muscle vs cheap muscle). something quite different happened in each one. Would love to go back and try it w/ different car dude, b/c that has the potential to be an even bigger difference.

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:53 (ten years ago) link

Nah not really but there are a lot of little things that are really bugging me.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

Ok, so from reading some early online impressions, it states that you can buy a house at some point. How are they gonig to handle that exactly? What I mean is, let's say I buy a particular house in my world, quit the game, and come back later. Will I always come back to the same world where I own that house? What if someone else bought that same house in their world? With only 16 players allowed on a given server, there will have to be some random overlap of people owning the same properties, correct? I'm probably missing something basic.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 19:13 (ten years ago) link

One of my favorite thing in GTA games is the races and this definitely has the worst race AI of any GTA game. (Never played I or II, but I assume they don't have races...)

polyphonic, Tuesday, 1 October 2013 19:13 (ten years ago) link

The properties are like instances, basically more than one person can go up to the in-world door of the house they own and warp to their own version of it when they go in

got on the online OK and did the tutorial bits, ticker tape just constant stream of news updates about dickheads murdering each other over and over, a la RDR

no idea why they don't just let you choose what you want your avatar to look like instead of that fuck-awful character generation thing

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 19:16 (ten years ago) link

Ah, makes sense, thanks.

I figured it would just be one large PvP murder fest. I wish there were consequences for that, tbh. I'd much rather do cooperative tasks with people. On that note, I joined the ILX crew.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 19:22 (ten years ago) link

yeah, online mode is pretty glitchy.

i waited 10 minutes for other opponents to show for the intro race, only to be matched up with only Lamar (AI). then in the first mission, as soon as I grabbed the dropped drugs, the world shifted to daylight, then back to nighttime, made me invisible, let me look around for a little bit from a fixed location, warped me to the middle of dimension X24E, gradually let the world populate around me for 20 seconds, floating around in another dimension again, and then was warped back to the beginning of the mission again

reckless woo (Z S), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 20:14 (ten years ago) link

sounds like a saint's row 4 mission

Mordy , Tuesday, 1 October 2013 20:16 (ten years ago) link

ah, bit my own joke. sr5, sr5.

http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=126&t=10768&p=160355#

there seems to be a glitch where online mode dumps you back into single player way further into the story than you actually were, like with at least one major plot event skipped, just happened to me but still had the save file from before, be careful out there kids

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 20:39 (ten years ago) link

uh oh, literally just 1 minute ago (before i read this), i was kicked out of online and was back into single player (as trevor). i just shut down the game (quasi-rage-quit) - hope i didn't get skipped ahead somehow!

reckless woo (Z S), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 20:40 (ten years ago) link

I'd saved it as Trevor wearing a terrible suit and a luchador mask in his house, and when it kicked me back from online today I was Michael wearing sweatpants in the desert, started getting phonecalls about story missions that made no sense for where I got to (50.4%)

I think you're OK unless you somehow saved over your manual save file, but not sure if that'd even be possible unless you were ignoring the mission phone calls and driving a long way to your safehouse

random accies memories (Sgt. Biscuits), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 20:47 (ten years ago) link

Grrr, I guess I'm not playing online tonight after all. I'm only about 40% of the way through, and I don't want to jump ahead.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 21:02 (ten years ago) link

it's not a big deal if it happens (imo) - like biscuits is saying, you still have your old save state you can hop into

reckless woo (Z S), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 21:05 (ten years ago) link

but it might be worth waiting a few days anyway for the online problems to be fixed. it's pretty unsteady right now.

reckless woo (Z S), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 21:05 (ten years ago) link

Yeah, not a big deal. I just hope R* fixes these server stability issues by the weekend. I may be a little delusional though.

Rod Steel (musicfanatic), Tuesday, 1 October 2013 21:10 (ten years ago) link

Playing a bit more it had basically skipped me ahead of the next main story mission and inconveniently lumbered me with Michael

I think I like the bits where the score goes full on 1.0 Klaus Dinger motorik even more than I like the bits with the unnerving synths
