james murphy is just a crap vocalist. it's too bad because the band is great, egging each other on - it would be great if they had a singer who could egg everyone on, too. instead murphy seems to try to go for some kind of ill-advised ian astbury impersonation interspersed with fey indie asides, very little of which seems to have anything to do with the music being played behind him.

I think If I was any other band on the bill that day I'd just give up. Daft Punk were on a different planet.

I saw them on Sunday in Leeds.

The best lighting i have seen - ever. The whole show was fantastic. In parts it was phenomenal, particularly the encore of human after all/one more time/music sounds better with you.

Random Access was the biggest style shift of all, played with real humans in contrast to the robot helmet schtick. Probably would have been time for a major helmet redesign if they made another record, or just go full anonymous - the helmets were a very minor part of the image when they debuted for Discovery, given the Interstella 5555 videos.

The Helmets were actually designed for the Discovery era. Interstella 5555 doesn’t feature them much since the idea for the anime was developed with TOEI in the early stages of Discovery and the helmets came after, developed by Alterian. At one point the helmet designs even had hair.
