I was struck by the extreme contrast at Sunderland between the ads facing the pitch and the ads facing the fans. On the neon side it's all Mister Potato and Visit Tanzania, on the matt side it's all local rags and funeral parlours.

although it might be the Spanish league

Number None, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:01 (ten years ago) link

On my way back from tonight's game, was actually a pretty even game just that arsenal were very... Arsenal.
Chelsea were also very Chelsea

Both these things are depressing

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:44 (ten years ago) link

Jenko, Ryo and Bendtner were all rubbish, subs came too late. Saw the crowd being criticised for getting on big Nicks back...
But at some point he could stop being shit, honestly the ball was bouncing off him everywhere and he ruined every single good attacking move

I was ready to love you bargain basement zlatan

not lazy but clowning (Suedey 2), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:52 (ten years ago) link

Where were you sitting? I'm making my North Bank debut on Saturday (sort of) and hoping for some atmosphere.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 22:58 (ten years ago) link

I was in the east stand, and before that the clock end. I think if you want atmosphere the north bank seems a good bet, as do most of the lower tiers.

But really the best option if you're after atmosphere would be the away section

Truly embarrassing scenes at St James park. Security banning anybody from sitting in the anti-Ashley section. But the fans just run past.

This is kinda excellent. If you must be a despot, might as well ham it up imo

Have Spurs really lost their last 7 shootout's before tonight?

pandemic, Wednesday, 30 October 2013 22:26 (ten years ago) link

I reckon I could if I have to, yeah xp - was watching Awaydays the other night, it's got me right in the mood for some old-school berserking. I was getting my hair cut yesterday, was so tempted to ask for a wedge.

It shows up as North Bank on the seating plan - but actually I'll be right down at the touchline by the corner flag, so not sure why.

The stronger of two weak teams over 90 minutes, but scarcely troubling the Sunderland goal (whereas Sunderland didn't even manage a shot on target until the 119th minute).

Pre-Madonna (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 22:34 (ten years ago) link

Didn't want another Bradford City type team in some mismatched final again, so it is a good result for the cup.

xelab, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 22:53 (ten years ago) link

r|t|c, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 23:43 (ten years ago) link

I was in a pub this evening, full of people who weren't watching the football really, until the penalty shootout when the entire pub galvanised in lolling at shite penalties and lolling at Man Utd.

Also I insisted before the shootout started that Ki was absolutely taking one and going to stick it away, and my mates were all "ha, everyone's shite, you're wrong". DON'T THINK SO.

Also also, it transpired that my mate sneakily stuck an inplay bet on Sunderland to qualify just before extra time started, a fiver at 5/1, so when we all finished lolling at Man U the drinks were

Basically, that is what watching football in a pub should be like - a mixture of calling shit right for kudos, getting free beer, and Man Utd being crap.

Top day. Cheers Moyes!

Drinks were on him, that should say.

ailsa, Thursday, 23 January 2014 02:54 (ten years ago) link

Oh aye, with an added bonus of us all looking like extras in a terrible beer advert when said mate's joy turned to despair when Man U scored to take it to penalties, when he'd thought his money was safe on a Sunderland win.

Also, comedy goalkeeping.

The presence of Demichellis in this team is allowing Kompany to get away with an awful lot of substandard performances without attracting negative comment. Imo

none of the hacks who went after demichelis after his stupid penalty vs barcelona mentioned it was kompany's failure to keep to the line that left messi onside

Joyeux animaux de la misère (nakhchivan), Sunday, 2 March 2014 14:40 (ten years ago) link

i still distrust rafael honigstein after he compared dzeko to rvp as one of those rare #9s who can act as a playmaker and focal point for the rest of the attack

he has a fairly good scoring record with city but his general play is fairly crap, especially compared to negredo
