the headshop by the beach brings in $9300/wk iirc

hai i've played like 4.5% but i think this is key
also when do you get money
xp ok i see haha
― goole, Monday, 23 September 2013 16:17 (ten years ago) link
the first heist brings in a good amount of money and it's not too far in if you concentrate on the story missions, so if you're in need of $$ you might want to just progress the story that far
― Z S, Monday, 23 September 2013 16:19 (ten years ago) link
Kinda surprised me actually, how much money that mission draws. I'm used to spending the large part of these games scraping along with a pistol and whatever I can collect from vanquished foes. Completed one heist mission and now my characters have got every weapon, all with a shit ton of ammo and maxed out accessories.
― Third Rate Zoo Keepers With Tenth Rate Minds (Windsor Davies), Monday, 23 September 2013 16:22 (ten years ago) link
I blew all that money on bad investments so I'm still pissing around with pistols and bugger all ammo. :(
― JimD, Monday, 23 September 2013 17:07 (ten years ago) link
Don't make decisions based on money, but on what kind of missions you want to do. The drug running property in Sandy Shores was a no brainer. I don't care if it makes money or not. I want to fly around and distribute drugz.
― polyphonic, Monday, 23 September 2013 17:32 (ten years ago) link
Which is an argument against buying properties without missions or gameplay associated with them, I guess, but maybe you don't know that until you buy em? Do the pot stores just sit there and make money? That's kind of boring.
― polyphonic, Monday, 23 September 2013 17:38 (ten years ago) link
I keep getting messages from the headshop that they're running low on supplies but how do I trigger the missions to rectify that?
― cozen, Monday, 23 September 2013 18:05 (ten years ago) link
so, what's the best wiki? wikia? ign?

only seminoteworthy thing i've done so far: did the ? mission with franklin that's a street race. i happened to be carless at the time, so grabbed some shitbox off the street and lost. i figured it would just let me retry, but i guess it didn't. later i rolled into a custom shop, and the same character (?) sassed me for losing!

also got a pop-up that my car god repo'd at one point but i couldn't tell wtf icon it was telling me to hit up to get it back
straight fire beautiful game tho

The Trevor missions are some seriously satisfying deathfests. Really enjoying the sniper rifle ones.
― Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 September 2013 20:43 (ten years ago) link
You can retry every mission in the game, gooley
― polyphonic, Monday, 23 September 2013 20:43 (ten years ago) link
Noticed you can skip missions if you fail them. I haven't had to yet as this game is quite easy, but I think it's a good option. Not got the time for some repeat of that dickhead with the model planes from IV.
― Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 September 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link
lol poly clearly there's quite a bit i haven't figured out
biggest mental reorientation for me is being able to do a quicksave off your phone. in retrospect, the regular rhythm of going back home to save was a strong part of getting to know the geography in SA & IV
― goole, Monday, 23 September 2013 20:48 (ten years ago) link
If you fail the air trafficking missions there's basically no checkpoint though and you have to do the drops again
I know this because I always do the drops fine then get confused about which of the three buttons I'm supposed to be holding down to land then make an immaculately straight touchdown on the landing strip at a velocity that blows the plane sky fucking high every time

― cozen, Monday, 23 September 2013 21:19 (ten years ago) link
When the text comes through go to your map and there will be a P flashing at the place where you are supposed to go - the one time I did it, it was in the Senora desert area. Once there, you have to get in a truck and drive it to the place within an allotted time - do not crash into anything.

anyone got any advice for the helicopter controls? confusing as all hell
― NI, Monday, 23 September 2013 23:13 (ten years ago) link
ZS, I finished flight school some time ago. Or do you mean all Gold, because I've only got silver in the chopper runs.
If you got all gold, what reward did you get?

hmmm, when i checked the high scores for the last stage of flight school, i was the only one listed from ilg crew. but then again, i've been having persistent issues with connecting online and submitting scores, so it probably just fucked up.

Left stick to go forward or backward, bumpers to turn, triggers to accelerate and decelerate.

ugh, pro tip - if you haven't done flight school yet, wait until you're forced to do so as michael by a mission. i just wasted a bunch of time doing it as trevor, only to be forced to do it again an hour later.

for fucks sake. next thing someone will tell me i need to do all the mind-numbing tow truck missions as each character in turn

have to admit the little bugs are really annoying me. "climb onto the sub to enter it". *climbs onto sub. nothing happens* 10 minutes elapse with me swimming around sub and on top of it and beneath it.
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:00 (ten years ago) link
uh oh, i've killed myself and tried two additional times with no luck. has anyone been able to enter the sub in the mission before one of the heists? did you just stand on top of it?
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:04 (ten years ago) link
Not before the heists, but it worked fine when I did it for the heist.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:06 (ten years ago) link
well, i mean it's one of the missions just before the heist - it's like "go steal this sub in order to do the heist".
weird.

i...had to press the enter vehicle button

haha keep us updated with all your mishaps, im totally learning from the mistakes of my forefatherzs (thankfully i quit flying school after spending 40 minutes getting a damn bronze on that shitty helicopter mission so my time wasted isn't so bad)
― NI, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:26 (ten years ago) link
i'm thinking you don't HAVE to do flying school as Michael. but he's part of the heist, and i'm guessing that he'll be flying for some reason (even though trevor is the one that is good at flying), so the better he is at flying, the better the mission will go.
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:27 (ten years ago) link
i attempted a stunt jump at the airport, and ended up with my car wedged about 50 feet high in the middle of some weird triangular sign. ...i don't think i can get down without dying. perhaps i should try calling for a cab for the first time.
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:32 (ten years ago) link
i died
ah hang on, so it's not a specific part of the story mission to put michael through the agony of flying school? if i can skip all that crap that'd please me no end.
― NI, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:34 (ten years ago) link
well, trevor is like "hey michael, i'm about to do this heist. you should DEFINITELY DO FLYING SCHOOL. i will eat you if you don't. you should do flying school, michael, before this mission", and then he texts you saying "hey michael, trevor again, just reminding you to go to flying school before this heist. just saying, your pal, trevor"
i still haven't tried the heist because i'm busy making an ass of myself in the nearby trees
― Z S, Tuesday, 24 September 2013 00:37 (ten years ago) link
I think I only did about half the flying school as Michael and they let the heist go ahead.

it's jarring to see the GTA5 ads that feature a relatively clean-shaven Michael. i gave him a gigantic beard as soon as possible for some reason, and he looks kind of like the doctor guy on Lost, Jack Shephard, in the final seasons of the show when he was bummed and drunk and became a beardo.

Haha I made all of them as beardy & long-haired as possible, as soon as possible, its esp weird seeing a clean shaven/un-afro'ed Franklin advertisement cos you realize he doesn't look just like Ice Cube
