pharris usually sticks to rap music at the radio station though, they have boolumaster spin house 'classics' like the vid you posted, and then dj nehpets does the juke stuff

deej, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:40 (fifteen years ago) link

one of the things that was kinda annoying about the press that juke stuff gets is that it doesnt put it in any kind of context with respect to the house music this is coming out of ... just more 'gutter beats'

deej, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 04:42 (fifteen years ago) link

what an amazing party ... can't get enough of these video clips

what the version of "is it all over my face" at the end of this vid??

now wait a minute

if you were going to yield to temptation, then why'd you fall for me?

no, you listen...

"HELL YEAH"

That's great. I wish I knew which version it was...

Interview with Geir Hongro.

Raw Patrick, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 11:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Geir is on the money.

We need more Geir and less Ableton.

that's it, thanks sous! i have another track id now, from the mole the following night. he played it 3x in a row right at the end of the 'night' when he had completely given up on mixing. nu-school (i think?) disco, loose guitar riff, female voice repeatedly intoning "don't turn it off, don't turn it off... i kinda like it"

we need more young people and less depressed burnouts

Ronan, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I should know

Ronan, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

I hope Ableton destroys techno as we know it and makes everybody who currently likes it decamp elsewhere.

Ronan, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Sounds like you need a hug.

it's a great track.

btw I don't need a hug, just a good cull

not new school, Hot Chocolate:

one of my regular joints right there, no one ever knows that one.

hasn't that already happened? isn't it called mnml?

young people tend to listen to the absolute worst crap out there, except for about once every 20 years or so when they actually get it right. and even then, the music they like is usually made by people older than them. fuck young people.

pipecock, Thursday, 10 July 2008 03:48 (fifteen years ago) link

sometimes i can't tell if your hyperbole is serious or not, pipecock. are you really that much of a hater? i know i've asked you that before, but for real: your bile is toxic.

the table is the table, Thursday, 10 July 2008 04:23 (fifteen years ago) link

also, since you're above the age of 25 (presumably), you don't really know what young people listen to. last night i spent much of the evening listening to Hieroglyphic Being, drinking Bud Light and smoking fatties under the stars with a bunch of 19 year-olds.

the table is the table, Thursday, 10 July 2008 04:29 (fifteen years ago) link

that said, i do love your blog and your taste. but your rhetoric is fucking stupid, and i'm pretty sure that you know it is.

the table is the table, Thursday, 10 July 2008 04:30 (fifteen years ago) link

that only reinforces the idea that talking about dance music on the internet would be more fun if the people doing it were still primarily motivated by their joy in the music as opposed to being motivated by the desire to win arguments on the internet.

J@cob, Thursday, 10 July 2008 05:40 (fifteen years ago) link

anyway I'm now listening to Hieroglyphic Being on headphones at the office and its nice.

J@cob, Thursday, 10 July 2008 05:41 (fifteen years ago) link

jacob, pipecock isn't presenting any argument in the post right above mine. he's simply spouting a bunch of vitriol.

the table is the table, Thursday, 10 July 2008 05:50 (fifteen years ago) link

also i am glad you are listening to the SUn God. he is the fucking man.

the table is the table, Thursday, 10 July 2008 05:51 (fifteen years ago) link

he always seems quite affable on his own blog. why does he have to be such a pr*ck here?

sam500, Thursday, 10 July 2008 05:52 (fifteen years ago) link

pipecock, i'm pretty sure it was an escort style cover of the hot chocolate track...

resolved, Thursday, 10 July 2008 07:58 (fifteen years ago) link

The Hot Choc cover is by 40 Thieves and is a 12" on Permanent Vacation.

Raw Patrick, Thursday, 10 July 2008 08:17 (fifteen years ago) link

He always seems quite affable on his own blog. why does he have to be such a pr*ck here? Very true. Now if you could write like you did on that mnml ssgs post and not as you do here, maybe the world could be a happier place? These vitriolic attacks have become so predictable that they're no longer anything more than self parody, I can't even think of times where serious discussion and learning takes place, or is ILM just a vehicle to berate your perceived inferior, or 'fucking idiots', or whatever they are.

So. . . on that note, anyone have erm, an above 128 version of Baby Ford and Eon - Dead Eye lying around. . . Great Track it is.

mehlt, Thursday, 10 July 2008 16:42 (fifteen years ago) link

one quarter gets you unlimited plays.

i definitely have a high-quality digital copy of "dead eye" somewhere. have you ever heard the single baby ford did for force tracks mehlt? it's right up close to "dead eye" and "bad friday" imo. great for doubles.

tricky, Thursday, 10 July 2008 16:54 (fifteen years ago) link

actually beatport has "dead eye" as it was re-released on plus 8 in 2006 so i'm not gonna upload it unless you convince me that you are starving and can't afford $1.49 for a 320kbps mp3.

tricky, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:01 (fifteen years ago) link

Fair enough.

As for the force tracks 12", the place I usually get my used records has it, and I've been meaning (and have actually had it in my hand ready to take to the cash register more than once) for like half a year. I always seem to find something at the last minute that I prefer, though. Great deep techno, though. I'd get inspired and go buy it in the next few days, but I'm in a different city and won't be back for 5 weeks :S

mehlt, Thursday, 10 July 2008 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

seems like you are on a different inspiration tip, then. it'll probably still be there when you get back.

i am in the unfortunate position of both having a sister who is 22 and being in school with many 18-22 year olds. i know exactly what young kids listen to, and it is some bullshit. of course when i was that age, almost everyone i knew was listening to bullshit as well.

you can come up with your 19 year olds who listen to jamal moss, but it doesnt change my point: i don't feel the need to have my musical taste justified by some young kid who doesn't know shit. if kids want to be down, there is nothing stopping them. but to try to cater towards them is pretty stupid, and worthless. i would rather people who have opinions that don't change with the weather and who have a good knowledge of music and experience listening to many things be into dance music.

pipecock, Friday, 11 July 2008 00:36 (fifteen years ago) link

It's not 18-22 year olds with bad taste in music, that's just the majority of all people. Do you think they're going to up and start listening to Moodymann or whomever 8 years from now?

i heard a story about how when derrick may went over to britain with strings of life they played it for the 18+ crowd at the late club slot who were already into house and they hated it so then he tried it on the early slot, with 15 year olds and such, and they got down. so who cares?

elan, Friday, 11 July 2008 01:10 (fifteen years ago) link

ps that is based on the assumption that strings of life is good and if you don't like you don't like good music

elan, Friday, 11 July 2008 01:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Picked up a 1997 label comp on Multiplex Records this week for $2! Anyone know anything about this Danish label? Haven't had a chance to listen to it all yet but the Stasis track is pure class. Dan Curtin and Morgan Geist also represented.

i don't disagree. i just don't see the input and participation of young people as anything that will change house and techno music. if anything, the transient nature of their taste will serve to hype it up temporarily, then leave it for dead when they move on. i don't think that will help things at all, really.

if they want to like good music and be down, that is fine with me. i just think that waiting for some youth movement to inject the scene with energy is a waste of time. i think that an older crowd has been what has kept dance music alive and well in most US cities.

Their lack of input will certainly change house and techno music!

Panthers - Goblin City (Holy Ghost! extended disco dub)

This is good it's got a real nice 54 disco flavour with dead eyed post punk vocals Rush guitar parts. Gets progressively more skinny tie as it goes on, in a really good way. Reminds me a bit of Gray.

I know, right?, Friday, 11 July 2008 09:58 (fifteen years ago) link
