I hate being a tall man in a small world

he is like 6.5 feet tall and male. i don't know how he feels about new england. he hasn't lived many places, he's in college. he doesn't know how to use a wok either :(

If you learn how to use a wok in college, it ruins the experience of ordering cheap takeout thai food all the time. I wouldn't recommend it.

fortunately i am not in college and takeout thai here is expensive and mediocre so i never order it.

I've shrunk. Degenerative disk. Clocking in just over 5'10'' these days, when I could once claim a solid 5'11''

I also feel shorter in general because I used to wear heels a lot at lolcorporatewhore job, now I'm a social worker and basically wear nun shoes.

The worst thing about being tall is having to take a shower in a hotel. They are all designed for people that are 5' 8".

I have a friend who's like 6'9" (very skinny type so he looks even taller) and we've had some conversations about that. for a long while he had many complexes and didn't feel comfortable with himself.
but at some point, around his 30s, he got OK with it and even began to have a kind of superiority complex on some aspects.
I remember feeling bad for him many times because the one thing everybody would talk about with him at parties, dinners etc was his height... must be so annoying...
On the other hand, sometimes I think it must be so great to be much taller than most people. when you're standing in a crowded metro, for instance, and you're fine and able to breath above !
still, as a much shorter person, sometimes I wonder how people who are taller or bigger manage with planes seats etc. I find them so small and uncomfortable even for my size...

Was visiting my parents this weekend and realized that the sink in their bathroom is actually set into the wall below my crotch.

In my own house, all of the bathroom mirrors are set up for my wife and son to see themselves, but I have to hunch over to catch a glimpse.

I feel ever so slightly miffed when I meet a lady taller than I.

Me too! And I hate that I feel that way but I'm used to being the tall one. It's not even miffed so much as surprised and OK a little miffed. My best friend is almost 5'11" and I feel like a shrimp around her. It's weird with heels because I pretty much always wear flats and if I do have a heel on people always say something. I'd wear heels more often but they hurt my feet!

Once while at my last job I met a man who I'd been working with over email for some time. He sought me out to introduce himself and the first thing he said to me was, "You're tall!" It was so strange because I am sort of but I'm not THAT tall. That said, he was pretty short.

i was talking to one of my jailed clients sitting down and when i got up to leave he said, "you're tall?" in like a surprised way that was cute

How about being taller than the privacy dividers in the restroom stalls? Head all poking above the partition like a goddamn gopher when you stand up.

Apparently on dating sites it pays to state that you're tall

xpost - I'm not tall enough so that happens in regular sized stalls but one time years ago my friend and I did a bunch of bong hits and wound up in a bathroom that had been designed for kids only we didn't realize that at first and thought it was a bathroom of little people or elves and were in there for like 20 minutes talking over the stalls and kneeling to wash our hands while dying laughing and talking in what we decided elves voices sounded like.
