I appreciate the thoughts in this post (and do agree!) but I find it a bit funny & thought-provoking that you decided to illustrate this post with pictures of your boys (?) in their swim suits. They are good-looking young guys and of course that is perfectly normal and acceptable for them to be in their swim trunks, but couldn’t a young teenage girl looking at that with friends be led to talk about them looking “hot” or whatever if they were popping up in their instagram account? (My oldest is an almost 10 year old girl who has no interest in boys, so not too sure yet how teen girls think!) I really want to know if this could be an issue for some girls (or guys) or not really.

If you are friends with a Hall boy on Facebook or Instagram or Twitter, then you are friends with the whole Hall family.

And now – big bummer – we have to block your posts. Because, the reason we have these (sometimes awkward) family conversations around the table is that we care about our sons, just as we know your parents care about you.

The slut shaming and sexual politics were off the charts, but these were the sentences that stood out as creepiest.
I know things have changed since I was in high school but if my parents had insisted on this level of intrusion into my private life I would have gone insane.

Devil's advocate, if I had teenage kids, would I not end up worrying about 'those types of girls/boys' or 'that type of behaviour', even though, as we all know, that type of behaviour is normal + we've all done it or a version of it?

What I mean is, the pressure and stress of running a family and keeping it together might lead one to several dodgy conclusions and if you then happened to be the one dodgy-conclusion-haver who blogged these conclusions you might look more mad than you actually are.

For normal read 'harmless'. People putting slightly sexy facebook pictures up is no big deal, is it?

Your son has been a positive influence in my life and I am starting to learn self-confidence through conversations with him, but no you've cut me off. thanks. yeah, i'd love to hear your thoughts on melancholia, but if you liked that film i recommend you try to see another earth asap. both of these films deal with apocalyptic anticipation in a much more human way than anything else i've seen; i think it's natural to discuss them alongside one another.
