bolt > greyhound express > mega imo

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:24 (ten years ago) link

but i mean tbh they are all more or less interchangeable (though bolt has rewards program!)

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:25 (ten years ago) link

The Greyhound Express is good?? I thought all Greyhounds were equally crap. This is good to know.

DC2NY also good if DC is where you're headed.

ljubljana, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:28 (ten years ago) link

Greyhound Express is their Bolt/Mega competitor which means cheaper + outlets + wifi + nicer seats w/ more legroom!!

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:29 (ten years ago) link

never again

caek, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 03:40 (ten years ago) link

try a train once and see if you feel the extra money was well spent

definitely train next time

caek, Tuesday, 3 September 2013 04:01 (ten years ago) link

train is literally 3x-10x the price depending on what time you buy.

mileena cyrax (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 3 September 2013 04:21 (ten years ago) link

earliest fap notice ever but in november i go to new york. think mid-november though still confirming dates. would be fun to meet some of you all. might use this thread to pick brains about all the bars i need to go to as the time nears... and other questions.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Saturday, 7 September 2013 11:41 (ten years ago) link

from the NYFF thread but bears repeating:

OK I'm trying to book for Views weekend and maybe I will try to see some other stuff then too. Anybody know of a reasonable hotel within easyish distance of your Lincoln Center? Is there a particular part of Brookyln that I could look at for getting in to festival stuff easier? (I've never been to Brooklyn and it's been 14 years since I was in New York)

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Saturday, 7 September 2013 16:37 (ten years ago) link

maybe airbnb?

One burly voice screamed and that was one of many. (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 8 September 2013 20:03 (ten years ago) link

Yes, probably.

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Sunday, 8 September 2013 20:45 (ten years ago) link

Somewhere with street (or off-street) parking would be, I guess, desirable. I decided not to mess with the train this time.

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Sunday, 8 September 2013 20:46 (ten years ago) link

messing with a car is probably a worse decision!!

max, Monday, 9 September 2013 10:56 (ten years ago) link

Angeleno habits die hard.

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Monday, 9 September 2013 17:11 (ten years ago) link

if yer gonna drive into the city and stay somewhere (brooklyn?) with street parking, that's one thing. but if you're planning to drive to screenings/drive around manhattan etc, you're really better off taking the subway.

ian, Monday, 9 September 2013 18:05 (ten years ago) link

would be fun to meet some of you all. might use this thread to pick brains about all the bars i need to go to as the time nears... and other questions.

cool. I'd be up for a drink.

dmr, Monday, 9 September 2013 18:13 (ten years ago) link

and yeah, what ian and max said. you can't really stay in Brooklyn but drive into Manhattan and park around Lincoln Center. or at least I wouldn't recommend it. if you want to avoid the subway the best bet would be to find some Manhattan hotel in walking distance of Lincoln Center I think.

dmr, Monday, 9 September 2013 18:16 (ten years ago) link

i will drink with ronan

caek, Monday, 9 September 2013 18:17 (ten years ago) link

how are you finding nyc in general caek
(vague possibly untrue recollection that you are one of those english ilx posters not from london who doesnt care for london)

No I wasn't thinking I would drive IN the city. I just want to drive down from here and have somewhere to leave my car for 5 days.

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 00:19 (ten years ago) link

When I said train I meant the Amtrak Vermonter or whatever it is called, not the subway

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 00:20 (ten years ago) link

Do you guys really call the subway "the train"?

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 00:21 (ten years ago) link

yes bcz it is the only train we get on unless we are unlucky enough to have family in Jersey or New England.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 00:56 (ten years ago) link

C'mon you can do better than that

Chantal Anchorman (admrl), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 02:15 (ten years ago) link

yeah i don't love love london, and on visits to new york i've always found it even more of ordeal for kind of the same reason: a worse london. but i find nyc a lot better when i have my own apartment to go to though. beats munich that's for sure.

caek, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 02:33 (ten years ago) link

the train is a cool understated thing to call the subway

lag∞n, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 04:08 (ten years ago) link

what i can't fathom is since l***** is sweet as pie (as always), shouldn't she be caek?
and shouldn't the astronomer be in orbit?
other than that nice having a pint the other week/month.

where do i buy a used bike that isn't craigslist? are there stores/coops/whatevers that do this?

caek, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 03:04 (ten years ago) link

How does it beat Munich, caek?

I Am the Cosimo Code (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 03:39 (ten years ago) link

That depends on how badly you want to buy a used bike that you know for sure isn't a stolen used bike.

I used to be more involved with Recycle-A-Bicycle, they're pretty cool and what their youth work is great. They have an East Village location on Ave C.

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 14:40 (ten years ago) link

i did it for a week. was not bad, i kind of meant to sign up for the full year but ive been lazy and out of town

max, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:20 (ten years ago) link

seems like itd be cool for one way trips and not having to worry abt where to put a bike

lag∞n, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:29 (ten years ago) link

what happens when you pull up to a station but all the spots are full

乒乓, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

does it tell u where the closest other citiracks are

乒乓, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

yeah, theres a map on all of them, theyre mostly just like 2 blocks away, plus if you have the app you can look ahead of time

max, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:42 (ten years ago) link

it was really useful basically to take from a block away from my apt to a better train. could see it being good for tooling around brooklyn too tho there arent any stations south of atlantic yet

max, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link

but i was thinking it would be really perfect for going from my apt to like williamsburg eg

max, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:43 (ten years ago) link

its also a heavy bike. i rode it from my office in soho all the way back to ft greene one day, the bridge wasnt too bad but ft greene is on a dang hill and the last few blocks were too much

max, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 15:44 (ten years ago) link
