"45" crossed over to hard rock radio a little bit, they are on a major label now, etc. the whole reason indie's been running from anthemic guitar bands the last x years is "man i didn't know there were gonna be baseball caps at this show"

i'm never going to love a gaslight album as much as i love american slang, am i? the new one is okay.

i am sort of too down on those first three singles to even listen to it man. i'll always love those first three records, all sort of perfect even in their flaws, but yeah--barring some unexpected breakthrough i think i may be out of steam for these guys.

man get hurt is just not great

i really tried to like it but i got nothing

with the benefit of a few years, i think american slang has actually become my favorite record of theirs--59 sound, in retrospect, is too weighed down by fallon straining to fit into The Boss's leather jacket.

I like to think that Fallon runs his albums by Springsteen first, the way Weird Al makes sure his marks are cool with his parodies.

But yeah, this is good. I was afraid to listen to the last GA, since someone said it was more Bon Jovi than Bruce. But this is good.

it's much better than the last GA which i haven't gone back to once. it's how i wanted things to go after american slang + get hurt in terms of GA sound.

Fallon gets more unabashed mileage out of the C-G-Am-F change than every other pop-punk act combined.

this is a little crazy imo. "59 sound" is one of my favorite albums ever

i listened to their whole catalog again just the other day. the new solo album is not as good as the band work but it has its moments

first 3 songs on HANDWRITTEN (‘45’ -> ‘handwritten’ -> ‘here comes my man’) are still 10/10 classic and worthy follow ups to the 59 sound

Agreed, but it's all downhill from there, sadly. Although Fallon's solo album is pretty great IMHO

“The Blue Dahlia”, from the deluxe edition of ‘Handwritten’, is pretty good too.

Loved the Horrible Crowes album when it came out but haven’t listened to it much lately.

I like the title track from Get Hurt very much tbh

I keep meaning to go back to Get Hurt and wrestle something likeable out of it but I flashback to the visceral dislike I had at first listen and don't do it. Maybe I'll try again tonight.

The solo album was as best as I can remember about as good as a good Gaslight Anthem album.

I like this one too. he's in fine voice.

plus i think they know no matter how big they get The 59 Sound is gonna be the record that they need to give people a certain amount of songs from every night.

Tbf, after 5 albums in 7 years, three years of indefinite hiatus might as well be 30.

I adore how shamelessly, earnestly corny/cliched this album is. Great tunes, though. Probably his best batch since "'59," or at least "American Slang."

I guess he says not to expect another Gaslight album, but really, this is close enough.

Is there any songwriter who references other songs (and songwriters) as much as Brian Fallon? I've been listening to "Sleepwalkers" a lot lately, and from song titles to song lyrics, even names of other artists, this guy is just constantly breaking the fourth wall.
