i have been wearing these cropped denim pants bc they are the closest thing to shorts that I am willing to wear

except they are leopard print denim & I am p sure they are ugly to everyone but me. but they make me laugh & they are suuuuper comfy and fit nicely

dawwwww cute! they make fairly discreet leopard print these days fwiw. I went through a phase where I would wear these zebra-print stretch pants if I was getting to hate-y on myself, because it's impossible to wear something like that without smiling

This isn't really the right place for this comment but I just applied for a lowly coordinating job with a verrrry high-end jewelry company that's kinda in the fashion world and I am so not fabulous enough to bust their chops if I ever get an interview! I need to channel u, homoII.

Yeeeeeah!

Do we have a regular style icons thread? This blogger is not technically plus-sized (I don't think?), it's more that she has a real body that's familiar to me: short, thigh-y, not long-legged, and yet still wears ALL THE PANTS and all the amazing blazers too! (Goddamn I know exactly how it feels when legs and sleeves are always too long, I tried on so many jackets last week and they all made me look like I was wearing my grandma's dressup.) Amazing style, beautiful human, new personal inspo.

yeah, I definitely have gone through that! Grandma's dress-up is a better feeling than thinking you suffer from some mild form of dwarfism

sarahell, Thursday, 2 January 2014 20:55 (ten years ago) link

I like her look a lot! I bought my winter coat last year at a tall girls' shop and I now know the pain of looking like you're playing dress up :( It felt okay last year, a smudge too long but it's winter, I don't want a millimetre of skin uncovered - but this winter I've also lost weight so it's huge on me overall and I hate it. I bought I last year at my richest and chubbiest - it cost a good $200+ too! I roll my eyes at it a little every time I put it on. Sorry for the rant! Pray for warmer temps soon so I can wear the medium temp winter coat that looks cute on me.

i bought a bomber jacket for cheeeeeap ... it fits really well and I think I like it? it leaves my bum and hips out for the world to see, I think I'm finally okay with that. i never used to even look at them because I always had my mum's voice in my head telling me my jackets should cover my big bum

did she actually say this to you? did she emphasize the word "big"? if so, that is sad.

sarahell, Thursday, 2 January 2014 22:35 (ten years ago) link

oh yeah. she justified by saying she had one too, and that I had inherited hers. :D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 January 2014 22:37 (ten years ago) link

i definitely inherited my mom's "ample posterior" -- but she never made me feel ashamed of being large in that area. If she was concerned about anything, it was boob exposure, because that could give boys "the wrong idea about what kind of girl you are," though if there was "a special boy, emphasizing that area is something you could do to make him like you more."

sarahell, Thursday, 2 January 2014 22:41 (ten years ago) link

why is it soooo hard to find trousers and pants that arent a total disaster for plus sizes? If anyone sees any, please post them here! I have these amazing flared aubergine bell bottoms from ASOS curve that I wish I could clone in several colors, but sadly that is not an option.

homosexual II, Thursday, 30 January 2014 17:38 (ten years ago) link

I've embraced the stretch and the jean styling--at Christmas I bought a pair of black tapered pants made of a nicer material but that are cut like high-waisted jeans. The fit of women's suit pants is utterly impossible for me.

good to hear!

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:26 (nine years ago) link

From the looks of how that is constructed, it looks like you can easily avoid the camel toe unless you are quite high-waisted/super long in the torso.

Since I started doing a little (VERY little) sewing, I'm totally into seeing how garments are put together.

I have not considered a jumpsuit for myself because of the difficulty-in-peeing thing.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Saturday, 30 August 2014 20:52 (nine years ago) link

SEEMS TO ME (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 30 August 2014 23:50 (nine years ago) link

and re the cameltoe fear, there was a 'catwalk video' for it and it did appear to have quite a long crotch area, looked almost like a dropped crotch on that model so I'm hoping that will accomodate some of my supergut :)

I am semi-addicted to thredUP?

One of the problems is that they will categorize as "plus size" anything that is labeled "XL" ... and it seems like, more and more, that designers are moving from numbered sizes to S/M/L, etc. so XL is becoming the equivalent to a size 10 or 12? So there's this weird mix of more "old style" designers where a 3XL is very large, like 50+" waist, and others where a 3XL is a size 16. This isn't just a thredUP problem, it's a problem for all sites with a size filter option that carry clothing by multiple designers.

thoughts on garments that tie at the waist or have large bows in the waist area?

sarahell, Monday, 22 October 2018 17:15 (five years ago) link

personally I avoid bcz I hate adorning or signposting or otherwise drawing attention to my nonexistent waist. and I’m not a huge bow fan.

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 October 2018 17:28 (five years ago) link

same! my biggest "concern" is that someone would see me in said outfit, and think, "oh how sweet, she has a bow around her waist because she's so proud of her babby to be and wants everyone to notice that she is pregnant"

sarahell, Monday, 22 October 2018 17:29 (five years ago) link

exactly

Squeaky Fromage (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 22 October 2018 17:54 (five years ago) link

90% of my wardrobe ties at the waist.

It suits me b/c I am hourglassy, also solves many fit problems that come with being over 5’10”

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Monday, 22 October 2018 21:55 (five years ago) link

But my bows are more tie than bow, or I swap for a wide cinch belt. A big boofy bow is not something I would necessarily go for. Though I did get married in a wrap dress with a bow.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Monday, 22 October 2018 21:58 (five years ago) link

yeah -- the waist tie thing is good for hourglassy, or at least pear shaped figures. Like, now I look at various designs of plus size clothing, and see that many of them would be flattering to other figure types, but not mine.

Like I'm seeing a lot of dresses with color-blocking that have dark colors on the sides, and white or brighter colors in the middle, and I think, I would want the exact opposite, but I don't have that much in the way of hips

New jeans who dis :D
Got two pairs of Torrid “bombshell skinny” jeans (these names i swear) and they fit SO good
Thick material, high waist with wide elastic band and noooooo gaping in back

I snapped and threw away my shitty Target ‘Ava & Viv’ skinny jeans last night. They were awful, i dont know why i tried to wear them for as long as I did. high in front/low in back lightweight denim, fall down constantly. a nightmare. they never stayed up on my “undulating waterslide” shaped body lol
