John Lennon McCullagh was just on Look North! They said "Remember where you saw him first" before he played one of his more political sounding song. Some of the lyrics included "The factories have all closed down" and "The kids are drinking on the street"

Is he actually going to become popular? This can't really happen can it?

Their music demonstrates influences such as Bombay Bicycle Club, The Cure, and Arctic Monkeys, making quite a unique blend of genres.

Drawing their musical influence from indie rock bands such as The Arctic Monkeys, The Courteeners and The Wombats, the trio aim to create a classic indie sound.

A PC support analyst by day, he has since secured gigs in Warrington and Liverpool and describes his music as having an indie/folk sound in the same vein as his heroes Dylan and Young.

The four Priestley College students list The Cribs, The Strokes and PEACE as their musical influences and have previously played at The Lounge, Warrington and at The Retro Bar, Manchester.

Richard said: “We draw a lot of musical influence from bands like Manic Street Preachers, The Pixies and indie rock bands from the late 80s.
“Our music covers many aspects of life such as politics, religion and how people think and feel about certain things.”

“Our influences include Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, The Who, and a lot of Rod Stewart.
“I love Fleetwood Mac, our guitarist loves Oasis, and our drummer loves Keith Moon, so there's lots of influences going on.
“Our style is upbeat, easy listening, pop rock. We've been compared to The Beautiful South.”

Named after a comic strip from the 2000AD series, they draw on influences such as Broken Social Scene and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds to create something which is at once dark, euphoric and uplifting.
By binding together the traditional back-bone of guitar, bass and drums with an unlikely approach to the violin, cello, and piano they have received radio airplay from various BBC 6Music DJs.
Angular stabs of snyths, waves of strings and Stephen Ellis’s almost baritone vocals combine to form a sound that is reminiscent of Leeds post-rockers I Like Trains.

Boss Level Monster draw on influences as diverse as the Mars Volta, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Beck.

With influences as diverse as Johnny Cash, Bob Marley, Simon and Garfunkel, Pink Floyd, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Aerosmith and Nirvana, The Ram Raid's music is difficult to pigeon-hole, so I asked them straight: "How would you describe your music?"
The response: "Hard-hitting alternative energetic riff-based harmonious rock with a dash of funk and groove"

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:33 (nine years ago) link

rly? i associate that look with gormless innocents. they give it a good go but deep down they know they're never gonna make it.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 8 August 2014 14:44 (nine years ago) link

the swagger mentioned above reminds me of late 70s rod stewart - a sort of laddy glammy look that's entirely laughable unless you're rod stewart (and often even then).

the dudes daphnis just linked to are posh lads trying to seem down to earth aren't they? diff thing.

"trough lolly"??? (stevie), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:47 (nine years ago) link

xp

oh i didn't mean "new swagger" as in Billy Big-Bollocks rock and roller mentality, just in terms of there being fucking hundreds of wannabe bands affecting this kind of style decision now

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:48 (nine years ago) link

yeah maybe stevie i don't know if they code as posh tho? it's kinda normcore-y and kinda "we let our music do the talking" but the beards add a certain something i can't quite nail yet

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:50 (nine years ago) link

that kind of thoughtful styling that wants to pretend it just happened without thought

The aim of Rooney is spot correct (Daphnis Celesta), Friday, 8 August 2014 14:51 (nine years ago) link

yeah that's never been a "look" before

brimstead, Friday, 8 August 2014 23:54 (nine years ago) link

let alone, the whole point of a "look"

I had to reverse image search that to find out if it was a ticket queue, a shit fan art exhibition or a lookalike contest. Turns out it's a queue to buy overpriced parkas.

it's from an opening of Liam's parka shop isn't it? It has been posted to another thread for lols IIRC

From the overlooked confines of the north, where the desolate shell of a dead industrial empire hangs heavy, this band brings light, hope and an adrenalin shock of lust, love and devastating charisma. Just when you may think that rock' n 'roll had been consigned to the history books, here comes a band that will fill your head with dreams and your heart with hope.

Slydigs’ ship sails straight and true on waves of pure blues rock 'n' roll.

Merdeyeux, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 13:33 (nine years ago) link

Fuck me.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 7 October 2014 13:45 (nine years ago) link

Now, equipped with the charisma of the Rolling Stones, the energy of The Clash and music that has so long been missed in an ever changing industry, 2014 is set to be submerged by this monstrous band.
