What do you feel is wrong with music?

QUIK: Right now I think it's just away from the growth of music. It sounds like it's snatch and grab. Coming up with a ]catchy hook and an 808 beat and people keep doing the same thing over and over and over again. And that's OK.

that is a terrific quote. haha like, not insomuch as it makes a great case for anything, but just the peaceful quikian zen generousness of it either way!! ilx 3.0 should totally force all posts to have "and that's ok" at the end of them.

you know who else deserves a thread like this? fucking DJ BATTLECAT. it only recently occured to me that i don't think i ever heard a battlecat beat i didnt enjoy, yet how comes i never felt that need to really spend time really thinking about him?? or is that just me?

Yeah, sometimes I listen to current hip house revivalism - "Touch Your Toes" or whatever - and wonder why its supporters don't just listen to uptempo hip hop and R&B (Mya's "Free" alone is a better urban/dance fusion than anything else any of us listened to this week). But kudos to Van Helden I guess for not using a corny rapper.

That said (incl. the bit about corniness) Deej you might like Studio R ft. Capitol A - "A & R (Llorca Remix)".

I'll track down your recommendation.

this used to be up on youtube! if its what im thinking it is. i saw the whole thing. part with el debarge is great esp.

his myspace said the street date for the kurupt/quik track was july 4 but i haven't see any sign of it (not that ive looked very hard). he was recently on the remix for 'i'm toe up' by compton rapper Problem

possibly the best song to skate to of all time. you can just feel it all through your body and you just FLOW across the floor. i used to skate all night long to this song in my dreams as a teen in Bmore, especially in the summer. we lived and breathed skatin'. that's what these kids are missing today. we need more skating and less hanging out at the mall spending money.

There's a best-of on Quik that's pretty much flawless.

its great but imo probably not the best at translating what makes his stuff 'work' -- as w/ a lot of rap producers his collaborative stuff is part of the story too -- plus his albums (and the quikstrumentals, the fake reggae joints, plus the fact that his early career sounds so diff from his later stuff, and bcuz imo Trauma is one of his best records and that was post 'best-of') most ppl are better off getting a big picture view of his catalog --

but of course i would say that
