The soup and yardwork incident really sounds like a case of borderline heat stroke, something I'm unfortunately familiar with.

In middle school, it was probably 90+ degrees on stage during a choir concert. Being nervous and sweating profusely, I was starting to black out puked a little on stage during the concert. Being a short kid, I was in the front row, luckily. In choir class the following week, that incident was luckily skipped via the magic of fast forward when we were watching the videotape of the performance.

It's incredibly hard to get protein in take-out form. Deli snacks and portable foods are always carbs, either salty or sweet. Yesterday between phys therapy and ballet class I was crying out for protein and had to get a lamb gyro, pick out the lamb, didn't want the flatbread, regretted the raspberry danish thing, wanted a salty egg instead. Blah.

Someone told me or I read once, years ago, that cravings for sweets is a lack of protein. So I have turned to a hardboiled egg when I notice all I eat is sweets and has fixed me up. Unless I'm going through that weird nothing hits the spot thing.

I have a pretty big appetite. I think it's metabolism-related. I've always been very slim to fairly slim but have to have 3 meals a day or I get nauseous/dizzy/shaky. Even when I've been very depressed, I still ate fairly normally, but still somehow lost a lot of weight.

they were good, but . . . it's a place i go to frequently for lunch and it is usually manned by these two hispanic guys. but today one of them was missing and in his place was clearly a 'boss'. this dude looked like clint dempsey only more handsome. but he was clearly a pox on my pizza dudes -- the type of guy who changes things around just to make his mark/fuc with ppl.

the tension was palpable. i was given a free garlic knot because dude didn't put my slices in the oven right away (you could tell he was gonna blame someone else even though he took my order and it was his fault). screw you pizza deuce guy

Sorry LL; I hope your appetite & spirits have a healthy rebound ASAP!

Last year I made the mistake of meeting up with a friend who was in town on a day I was super soul-crushingly depressed and unable to eat anything. My friend decided he wanted to meet up with some of his other friends at a fancy gastropub, where I drank ice water for fifteen minutes before splitting because it was all just so awkward and unpleasant. Blowing a big wad of money on a meal was about the last thing I wanted to do at that point. My gut felt like it was full of rocks. (Maybe it was??)

often I'll be hungry but unable to muster the desire to eat a specific food, and when I do, it's probably not the healthiest, as my diarrhea diary (speaking of embarrassing) will attest.
I feel like there isn't enough English vocabulary or idioms around appetite and hunger to express what are really very different kinds of discomfort, so they all get lumped in to "i'm hungry/not hungry"

Sympathies to you LL.

My own eating habits are admittedly strange but probably not fatal. I almost never eat breakfast. I often skip lunch altogether. At most dinnertimes I'll pick lightly at food in an obligatory way but my heart's usually not in it. Throughout the day, I'll grab a handful of almonds or dried cherries or something and I'm good.

At the same time, every week or so I'll have one rich, dense, sybaritic meal, like a pizza or a bacon cheeseburger the size of my head, and I seem to live on that for a while. That's how some snakes eat, right? Nothing for weeks, but then a whole monkey all at once, which takes weeks to digest?

Left to my own devices, I think I would eat only when I really wanted to. It's complicated somewhat because I am in a family, so we kinda have to keep up a regular rhythm (adults can choose to just graze; kids can't and shouldn't). So I keep up appearances. I pack lunches for the children. Every other night, I prepare and serve a decently balanced dinner, but frequently my heart isn't in it.

wow seriously, when i was a kid, one of the things i looked forward to most about being a grown up was not being forced to eat when i didn't want to, to be able to graze as i pleased. now that i can, i take full advantage and eat only when and what i want. usually that is a-ok fine, until one of these spells hits.
