Nice work! That does kind of stand out as the most skill-based (as opposed to "Pick up 1000 Emblems of Valor because you have nothing else going on in your life at all") achievement.
I was coming to see if anyone had any views on the upcoming changes, where they let people Dual-Spec (for a sizeable price) and swap armor easily. It sounds like it'll be good to be a druid, and also good news for anyone who's ever found them selves in a party with a priest that can't heal or a warrior that can't tank.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 19 March 2009 20:23 (fifteen years ago) link
I think the 10-man version has to be harder, what with only having 10 people.
Dual-spec is also going to be nice for those 25-man Naxx runs where you only have one shadow priest in the raid; it's kind of too bad they didn't implement it on release since it would have saved me about... 400 gold in respecs. (On the plus side, after one disastrous initial attempt, I am pretty good at tanking the Instructor encounter now; amazing how increasing yr hit keeps the mobs from breaking your Mind Control.)

pretty handy. and if you are accessing your bank it can include pieces in there, especially nice to figure out if you can safely ditch old gear since it shows items not being used at all.

grats on Twilight Vanquisher, HI DERE. I can't believe your guild was cool with giving you the Illustration of the Dragon Soul which hasn't dropped for us yet and is, like, best caster dps trinket in the game. Just out of curiosity, what loot system do you guys use?
re: dual specs
I'm a DK and they are nerfing tanking so I'm not super excited about them myself. I'll probably end up with two PvE DPS specs or maybe a PvP spec, even though I hate WoW PvP.

I can't believe I haven't looked for I Love Games until now.
And just when I'm kicking the WoW habit, too... But then I'm on a LOLRP server, so I don't think I'd see any ILX folk there anyhow.

I'm on the brink of quitting myself. If it wasn't for a lot of RL friends playing, I would have quit ages ago.

Just out of curiosity, what loot system do you guys use?
Boss-based DKP, normally 10 pts per boss unless it's new content, in which case it's 10 pts per attempt and 15 pts for the first kill. I tend to hoard (lol) points so that I can get the items I really want, plus I'm AFK a lot so the other healers get their goodies before I do anyway.
(ps bnw, Outfitter has changed my life)

(I love that I have that trinket for the intermittent times when I have to go shadow, btw)
― BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:31 (fifteen years ago) link
Our Naxx raids use a system that works like this. People roll on a main-spec item. High roll wins. The person who wins an item can still roll, but won't be able to win anything unless other rollers pass. If nobody wants an item for a main spec roll, it goes to off-spec rolls. Those are not governed by the said limit.
Theoretically, you could get kitted out in a night, if everyone passes or already has loot.
This has good and bad sides. If you get kitted, then there's not a lot of incentive to come back, unless you just like to get trashed and wreck content with friends (as we're basically farming Naxx now, killing time until the new raids.)
― Matt M., Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:34 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah, we're basically doing achievement runs now (tonight is actually 20-man Sarth/Malygos)
I just looked up Je-Tze's Bell and WAU WANT along with the Forethought Talisman
― BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Thursday, 26 March 2009 15:38 (fifteen years ago) link
We use Suicide Kings for current tier content, and Matt M's system for farmed stuff. It's easy to operate and there has been very minimal loot-related drama in two years. Cool thing about SK is when you're at the bottom of the list you can basically scoop up anything you want that other people don't.

ACHIEVEMENTS!
I'm going after as many of the raiding achievements as I can get before the patch comes out (Immortal Naxx tonight, 6-minute Maly Thursday, heroics in the interim) plus fishing/cooking achievements (lol need to do ZG and SSC for that tho).

grr of course I find out NOW that I have dinner plans, grr
― BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 19:40 (fourteen years ago) link
Oh, I'd go for the raid achievements if it weren't for the damned Immortal/Undying ones. Though I am working on grinding out my "the Insane" title in my spare time; at this rate I should earn it shortly before the sun goes supernova. Can't wait for Ulduar, though- the instance looks gorgeous, which will be a huge relief after graduating from the amazingly designed five-man Wrath content to an endgame that essentially consists of a couple of large rooms and a recycled level 60 raid direly in need of some graphical touchups (beyond removing "doodad_nox_door" in the last patch).
Also, while it's going to be rare as hell and probably require a hard mode kill, I must acquire the flying gnome head. A 310% mount that looks like the Warcraft version of the final boss of Super Mario World? Yes please.
― Telephone thing, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 21:24 (fourteen years ago) link
The flying gnome head is indeed awesome. In the last few weeks, we tried 6 minute Malygos and the Immortal, and both were utter failures each week. Made us wish we had started on those a long time ago instead of trying to cram them in right before the patch.
Eff achievements, though.
― The Lost Boys Buff Guy Playing Sax (rockapads), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:35 (fourteen years ago) link
Ulduar is gonna be fucking fantastic.
Wrath is really the first time I've done the "serious raider" thing; I've always been 2nd or 3rd tier in my guild, so I've never gotten to see content before it was on farm until this go-round, so I didn't mind that it was pretty easy (never saw Naxx the first go-round; hell, I've still never been to the end of Black Temple, never seen Sunwell Plateau, and just set foot in BWL for the first time about 4 weeks ago).
― BADGES DON'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WALTZ OFF WITH A BABY (HI DERE), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 22:55 (fourteen years ago) link
It's because those raid instances were largely designed for people without lives, Naxx and SWP in particular. But then I'm one of those scrubs that thought BC raiding was far too hard for the rewards gained.
― Matt M., Wednesday, 1 April 2009 00:51 (fourteen years ago) link
Our guild cleared BT - killed Illidan the very night before the nerf - and I have to say it was a great instance. If the Blizzard pattern holds true, whatever comes between Icecrown and the next expansion will be the next no-life Naxx(original)/SWP. I flip back and forth on raiding. Since I started with my own guild in Karazhan, I've switched mains (twice) and quit raiding forever (also twice). I have been on the verge of quitting again, lately, but Uld looks pretty bad-ass so I'm sticking it out and trying to get the rest of my set in Naxx. Here's my dude btw. I always have trouble playing when the weather gets nice.

yeah, friends were the biggest reason I rolled horde. that and, i probably wouldn't have even bought WoW if I hadn't been told I could play an orc. For some reason I love orcs in any game, movie, or book, that has them. But especially WoW's version.. the whole noble warrior-code thing.
― The Lost Boys Buff Guy Playing Sax (rockapads), Wednesday, 1 April 2009 18:59 (fourteen years ago) link
Taurens are great, too, but they are too damn big. I get sick of trying to see around them all the time.
I might have been tempted to go horde if goblins were a playable race, but as it is the Alliance currently corner the market on tiny goggle-wearing maniacs.
― Telephone thing, Wednesday, 1 April 2009 21:03 (fourteen years ago) link
They should make a third faction out of the neutral races; goblins, tuskarr, furbolgs, dragons and murlocs.

hah, same here. I've been moonlighting on a PvE server lately and I don't even understand why people on those servers have any animosity toward each other.

― slugbaiting (rockapads), Sunday, 12 April 2009 05:12 (fourteen years ago) link
Same here- dual specs are neat, and it'll be nice to be able to PVP without having to pay for the privilege every time, but it's a bit of an anticlimax when your class's talent trees all essentially boil down to "stab the mans til they falls down".
― Telephone thing, Sunday, 12 April 2009 09:49 (fourteen years ago) link
