not the first time on this thread, but i'm offended! in several different ways! it is kind of fun to read all the labels though. nice to get so many all shoved together, and how surprising to see islamic conversion and atheism cuddling so happily.

from blessedcause.org:
Samantha's mom wrote her a note to "opt out" of the 7th grade Islam course. When Samantha handed her teacher the note, the teacher became angry, held up the note and shouted at the class, "Is there anyone else!?"
Is there ANYONE FUCKING ELSE? I'm sorry I meant IS THERE ANYONE. FUCKING. ELSE. !?

Should Atheism Rules and Atheist Critical Thinking both be in the same cartoon? This kid needs to work harder coming up with bogeymen - not to mention the dependency on dubious movements like Sorcery. Schools everywhere are getting forced into teaching creationism as a scientific theory, that's fine, but no school anywhere caves to the sorceror lobby and suddenly it's a national crisis.
The Egypt one makes NO sense. Does this guy not understand that in the Bible story, Moses and the Pharaoh are on different sides? It's kind of key. They might as well just start taking illustrated Bible stories and firing a label-maker randomly all over the page.
― Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 6 June 2007 21:47 (sixteen years ago) link
still the whip of atheist critical thinking

No, Moses is down here in the corner Mystery Science Theatre 3000 style. And so he's parting the waters to lead them little children away from them Islamists and gays.
To be honest, I think YOU are the one who doesn't get it. And I'm not just talking about the sorcerist lobby which you conveniently deny. I'm also talking about all the talking monkeys teaching in our schools nowadays.

also pharaoh/moses appears to be a roman charioteer, which bugs me as well . must be because that guy has avoided being struck by "CRITICAL THINKING".
― Maria, Thursday, 7 June 2007 00:38 (sixteen years ago) link
Right, but... the only figure seen traveling through the parted waters is Pharaoh's Public Schools (represented as a Roman charioteer, admittedly) - while the waters themselves represent the similarly EVIL "Convert" and "Gay Pride." So is Pharaoh parting the waters for himself? I'd say I wish there was a label on whatever it is that's causing the chariot wreck, but inevitably it would be a used copy of SORCERY FUN. Ooooooof. Between this guy and the one who does the furryesque, motto-laden politician portraits, it's been a pretty good hunt lately.
Setting aside the batshit vision of educational content, I also wonder about this person's grasp of educational policy. Why is it, for example, that TAXES are what keep the children from fleeing to their beloved CHRISTIAN SCHOOL and HOME SCHOOL? And if they are stuck there, why is there a VACANCY on the door? Maybe the tattoo on DEPT OF EDUCATION's bicep holds a clue, but as far as I can tell it says "EDUGRODE" which isn't very illuminating. It's a shame this artist seems to be kind of a one-issue nut - surely the grim spectre of CRITICAL THINKING has infected other sectors of our once-great nation? It's such a great bludgeon, in any case; any time someone raises concerns about your work - any kind of concerns! - you can claim they've been corrupted by CRITICAL THINKING...
― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 7 June 2007 01:04 (sixteen years ago) link
Jumping back above, I love how a single man is both NEA and CALIF DEPT OF EDUCATION. Meanwhile, MILITANT HOMOSEXUALITY is even groping the crucified BODY OF CHRIST, which oddly enough looks very little like any depiction I've ever seen of the BODY OF CHRIST. Isn't it customary in these cartoons to take easily recognizable images with strong metaphorical impact and then label them with something other than what they'd normally be? BODY OF CHRIST is a little on the nose, don't you think?
― Doctor Casino, Thursday, 7 June 2007 01:07 (sixteen years ago) link

"Maybe the tattoo on DEPT OF EDUCATION's bicep holds a clue, but as far as I can tell it says "EDUGRODE" which isn't very illuminating"
I think it's EDUGODS. Because, like science and Darwinism, education is just another kind of religion that worships thunderbolt throwing Greek gods. And where are those Greek gods now, eh?

I don't even get it - native american women are selling all their casinos and opening restaurants?
― Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 7 June 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link
i think the setup is supposed to be that you think "wow those NM's are really well off, eating in a fancy restaurant and all" and then the punchline is that they OWN the restaurant.
― gr8080, Thursday, 7 June 2007 22:13 (sixteen years ago) link
Cartoonist clearly has no idea how many resaurants end up as failed business ventures -- very expensive ones. Owning a restaurant is no guarantee of solvency, in fact rather the opposite.
