this would be a felicitous time for t williams to start banging them out, the ejeca/warehouse urban undercurrent marries well with his otherwise usually untempting stiffness. vibe to keep an eye on

i'd been pondering a small investment in this one

One of the big things that's killing me about this wave of UK dance pop is how much of it has really good tunes, simply really good tunes. (OK carry on with your more expert conversations.)

THE WAIT IS OVER

new dumont/mnek is a bit much for me i think https://soundcloud.com/dukedumont/duke-dumont-feat-mnek-hold-on/s-NdUny

J0rdan S., Monday, 1 July 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

that new kidnap kid is choice tho

J0rdan S., Monday, 1 July 2013 15:40 (ten years ago) link

anyone know what's up with these dudes? https://soundcloud.com/bondax/giving-it-all

song is pretty pro forma & not very inspired but 50k plays in one day? i think they're supposed to be nsync to disclosure's bsb or whatever the appropriate british analogy is

J0rdan S., Monday, 1 July 2013 16:30 (ten years ago) link

"gold" got a lot of radio play and wound up in a lot of mixes but i don't know much about them beyond that. it's a sort of balearic bubbler i guess? not sure i hear the disclosure comparison beyond the fact that they also look about 12 years old to this fogey

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 1 July 2013 16:45 (ten years ago) link

i still think of t.e.e.d as the nsync (although maybe they missed the boat?), bondax are more like idk, o-town

r|t|c, Monday, 1 July 2013 17:11 (ten years ago) link

you know what i think it is about that (otherwise a+++ excellent) kidnap kid tune, the way he cuts in the vocal sample on that intro is so paul poli that i automatically experience a lingering trace of pavlovian disappointment when the ware-alike comes in and happens to not be teedra

r|t|c, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 20:20 (ten years ago) link

kidnap kid's delicate sensibility does not scan like that of a uk dance producer/listener at all really, it's kinda miraculous. let alone a former dnb raver

r|t|c, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 20:27 (ten years ago) link

Kidnap Kid tune is amazing, and yeah Paul Poli is spot on, surely Teedra (aka uk house and funky diva of choice) is in fact available to help out here.

I've taken to playing "Animaux" rather a lot in the car, mainly so I can sing along to "DREAMER".

Tim F, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:11 (ten years ago) link

haha tbh i was meaning and then forgot to submit "I just die every time the groove cuts out and that woman shrieks "DREAMER!" to posts v much in character

r|t|c, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 21:59 (ten years ago) link

(I think one reason so much of this Benny B mix goes down so easy for me is that it's more disco than house.)

_Rudipherous_, Monday, 8 July 2013 16:50 (ten years ago) link

xpost i can't deny it

Tim F, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:39 (ten years ago) link

i love the new duke dumont and lulu james singles - interesting how both have gone for an opulent emotive house diva look this time round in contrast to the slightly staccato hooks of their breakthroughs

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 July 2013 09:00 (ten years ago) link

i like kidnap kid but am finding his stuff a bit too easy to stop paying attention to halfway through. clean bandit not quite doing it for me either.

the odyssey/ruby goe track rtc highlighted is a banger though

lex pretend, Tuesday, 9 July 2013 09:01 (ten years ago) link

Xthread post @ tim

does kidnap kid qualify as part of your softcore continuum or I have got it wrong? :)

Benny B, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 20:07 (ten years ago) link

that devolution 'admire' is getting into my head something rotten now

r|t|c, Friday, 12 July 2013 12:33 (ten years ago) link

softcore nuum is probably the most fiendish shell-game we've ever devised so don't worry about getting it right

r|t|c, Friday, 12 July 2013 12:35 (ten years ago) link

scanning recent posts back i see i missed a deeply cruel "t.e.e.d-ra moses" gag

i guess i never really expected him to leave aside the sickly (sometimes sickly sweet) brutalism

but now look at this lil raggo grime duckling turned magnificent larry heard swan

damn that's lovely

latest boogie skream track. not as good as the duke dumont and rudimental ones (his mix of 'hell could freeze' is possibly my fave track of the year), but still better than that rollercoaster one iyam

That thing is amazing.

_Rudipherous_, Friday, 19 July 2013 15:58 (ten years ago) link

I like that. I like everything this year. Responsibility to what? Do I have to have 1,000 pages of theory in order to live?

_Rudipherous_, Sunday, 21 July 2013 17:20 (ten years ago) link

Not sure if this *quite* belongs here but this has the feel of a top ten hit in the making:

http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/read/youneedtohearthis-black-butter-records-vs-scrufizzer

he's spitting over 'Spoons' and Kidnap Kid's 'Be more', some Woz riddims...an album from him drawing on the BB stable of producers could be great, chuck in a bit of funkystepz aswell. The (undeniable) dizzee comparisons might be a problem for some but the more I listen, the more he reminds me more of Duurty Goodz actually.

Benny B, Monday, 29 July 2013 14:10 (ten years ago) link

havent heard this yet but scru and woz seem like perfect combination to me

r|t|c, Monday, 29 July 2013 14:46 (ten years ago) link

ok 1 min in and whoa yeah he sounds a LOT like goodz

r|t|c, Monday, 29 July 2013 14:49 (ten years ago) link

Yeah he doesn't really sound like Dizzee until you hear him say 'skank' or 'brand new day' or something. Quite a lot like Goodz though but without the constant smirk in his voice.

This mix is fire by the way.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 21:55 (ten years ago) link

and on cue...

http://soundcloud.com/scrufizzer/kick-it

lex pretend, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 18:21 (ten years ago) link

see he's back to channelling dizzee there. disturbingly uncannily too

good though, as is the mix. thing with monetizing scru is he is ultimately a spitter not a songwriter and therefore an instrument for trax. HOWEVER THOUGH do my ears deceive me or is that him singing a hook very decently on the last track?? now we're talking

r|t|c, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 19:25 (ten years ago) link

in fairness he does just seem like a very absorbent chap in a very genuine inadvertent way, it doesnt come off like gimlet-eyed mimicry at all

his flirta d glossolalia moments are also spot on

r|t|c, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 19:30 (ten years ago) link

produced by zed bias btw

suppose now would be the time to give this its long-deserved mention

someday i would like to know exactly how c4 obtained a recording of my inner monologue and turned it into an indifference ftw summer jam

^ yeah s'alright that
