Kenneth Connor is the hairy blue guy on the left isn't he?

nah that's peter butterworth as the beast (again, miscasting imho - kelsey grammar played the character in the movie, which is much closer to the comic bk version)

xpost aww i really like butterworth as the holiday camp owner in carry on camping. he also has an amazing life story:

Before his acting career started, Butterworth served as a lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy during the Second World War.[1] He was captured in the Netherlands in 1940 and later escaped through a tunnel from Dulag luft, near Frankfurt, in June 1941, where he covered 27 miles (43 km) over three days before a member of the Hitler Youth captured him. Afterwards he joked that he could never work with children again. Two other attempts to escape were made during his time there but he never got beyond the campgrounds.

Whilst at Stalag Luft III he met Talbot Rothwell, who later went on to write many of the Carry On films.[2] Rothwell and Butterworth formed a duet and sang in the camp shows, where booing and catcalls covered the sounds of an escape tunnel being dug by other prisoners. Butterworth was one of the vaulters covering for the escapers during the escape portrayed by the book and film The Wooden Horse. Butterworth later auditioned for the film in 1949 but "didn't look convincingly heroic or athletic enough" according to the makers of the film. To compensate for this the director Jack Lee, named the character played by Leo Genn "Peter", after Butterworth.

Having never performed in public before, Butterworth sang a duet with Rothwell, a song which Rothwell called "The Letter Edged In Black". The performance was followed by some comic repartee which, according to his own account, provoked enough boos and hisses to have the desired effect of drowning out the escape party. After the war, Butterworth kept a photo of the concert party line up, something which offered inspiration to him when starting a career in acting.[3]

Also within the same camp as Butterworth and Rothwell were the future actors Rupert Davies, and Stratford Johns and John Casson, who was the son of Lewis Casson and Sybil Thorndyke.[4] All five remained very close friends after the war ended and they all appeared on This Is Your Life when Butterworth was featured in 1975

Looks more like Sylvester McCoy xp

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:15 (ten years ago) link

That is EXACTLY what I thought, I even GIS-ed around to see if i could find a picture of Sylveste McCoy with a bald head! It might be that it's supposed to be Kenneth Connor but the artist simply cannot draw Kenneth Connor, what are they teaching kids at art schools these days?

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 14:17 (ten years ago) link

Wow at that Butterworth story

who is this american version of david blaine? 'Bizarro'? The guy who supposedly walked on the Thames? My mothers boyfriend made a point to call from Australia to let me know this fool levitated next to a bus and put his finger through a quarter. When he pulled his finger away THE COIN WAS COMPLETELY INTACT. My mom is mad impressed by the guy too. How do you get to your 60's and still believe this stuff is for real???

It's basically the guy who reads and enthusiastically comments on DiS/Eurogamer/Guardian/Cookd and Bombd evey day depending on what he's into right
dunno what the specialist football equivalent is but he is probably quite vigorously snippy about how underappreciated Michael Carrick is by the dull-witted common fan?

I'm not too confident at the moment.

And Jones is in as wicketkeeper to strengthen the batting. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/6140748.stm
But perhaps this means they might play Monty?

Lets hope Tres finds his form quickly and him and Strauss get some good century partnerships so the pressure isn't on Cook/Pietersen/Bell.
If they indeed choose all three. They might choose Jones and Giles so the batting is stronger if they decide to go with an extra bowler incase Fred isn't up to bowling as much as he normally would.

I don't think Mahmood is up to it. We're gonna miss Simon Jones.
Lets hope Harmison and Hoggard find their form too when it matters.

This was posted above and is absolutely fucking hilarious. I guess he hopes a bunch of people find their form.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 29 August 2014 18:28 (nine years ago) link

I wonder if they actually played Monty.

RIP Simon Jones.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 29 August 2014 18:29 (nine years ago) link

Now Bill, I ain't gonna play dirty with NFL. RIP Simon Jones otm though, and iirc they played Monty when it was too late and he got clobbered

imago, Friday, 29 August 2014 22:14 (nine years ago) link

Hahahahahaha touché. To be honest I'd love to know what that post meant!

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:35 (nine years ago) link

I love all sports no matter where from. If I lived in England jamaca or India I'm sure I'd be a cricket junkie.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 30 August 2014 04:37 (nine years ago) link

All sports? I used to think I was like that, but I've soured on a few. That post is mostly names btw, all the technical stuff is implicit - unlike in baseball, every player has a fixed number of innings (two) and everyone, including the bowlers (pitchers), must bat - so balancing a side of 11 players becomes of paramount importance

imago, Saturday, 30 August 2014 07:42 (nine years ago) link

it helps to know that Pfunkboy is the most relentlessly pessimistic follower of the England cricket team ;)

Daphnis Celesta, Saturday, 30 August 2014 08:29 (nine years ago) link

To balance things up a little, I find the titles of a lot of American threads on ILX incomprehensible, that's without actually reading the threads, esp. anything to do with American sport.

FYI Macedonia (Tom D.), Saturday, 30 August 2014 16:56 (nine years ago) link

where would we be without balance? toppled over, that's where.
